A contemporary composer of orthodox chant named Tikey Zes has a similar version of it. But very modern and baroque-ish
-
Oops I didn't mean the priests were at fault. But definitely fault of the Coptic vestment industry which has been hijacked by greed in the last 30 years. They just make whatever they want, at minimal cost and then you have no choice but to buy it
-
Harmala and qosla both mean hood. Some priests in America tried reviving it by wearing it themselves, without realising that it is an episcopal vestment.
-
I meant the parts you find in the papal enthronement. That are said after the two psalms when physically putting on the different items.
-
I read something recently about the rescinding of anathemas. I think it was a website called jointorthodoxcommission.org (maybe)
-
My initial understanding of the announcement was that they were upgraded from autonomous church to autocephalous church, whereby Abba Seraphim is now among the equal heads of a church within Oriental Orthodoxy, just as happened with Ethiopia and Eri…

I second @Kahan question. What makes their status 'uncanonical'?
-
Just go to another coptic church. If that doesn't help, maybe a syriac church. If you want more english, maybe an Eastern Orthodox jurisdiction. Whatever makes you comfortable, as long as it is orthodox.
-
By 'original' I meant non-modified. What is Copto-Greek? Is that just a mixture of the two?
-
Just out of interest... Has the original been subject to linguistic scrutiny by non-Copts? As in actual Greek people?
-
I don't think they necessarily got this from coptic hymns. I mean, to be honest, I have no way of determining the authenticity of this music as having come from pharaonic texts, but it would be really cool if it did.
-
Didn't Abba Seraphim (Rose) of Platina talk about Toll Houses? I still have no idea what that is. Can someone explain further?
-
St. Epiphanius refers to Wisdom in the feminine form in his Fraction on Wisdom. He then says wisdom is our Lord Jesus Christ.
-
@minatasgeel I was going to let it go so we can stay on topic, but have you got any examples of my aggressiveness? How is it my fault that I can't convey tone through the medium of anonymous text?
-
This @Kahan guy is hilarious.
-
It's also happening next door to St. Paul's Monastery, Red Sea. Maybe he could help them in not making insane decisions.
-
The conference is real. I know of several priests who are attending and are catching their flights TODAY.

Kata ni khoros all the way. [ edited by admin ]

We face no direction. We face the Logos only. Whether that be the gospel book, or the sacrifice.
-
I think it was on May 1st one year.
-
Wow this guy is amazing. But I only found three tracks for him on Soundcloud. Does anyone have more recordings?
-
I heard that the Holy Synod will be discussing it this year. Maybe someone can confirm?
-
This sounds like the late H.E. Metropolitan Athanasius of Beni Suef
-
I suggest the 2 volume set on the Catechetical School of Alexandria by Fr. Tadros Y. Malaty.

What I meant by chant is to be as equally responsible for chant as men. Or at least be allowed to be able to take full responsibility for chant (depending on the circumstances in the parish). We have marginalised them too much.
-
I literally found that same track 30s after I posted. Thanks man.

The main reason I asked was that many people have told me (mainly Egyptians) that the Icon should only have 11 of the Apostles depicted. However, some of the old icons have 12 depicted. Furthermore, our Eastern brethren depict 12 in their modern ico…

The modern Coptic Church has adopted so much from Islam that it is virtually Muslim. The ordination of women did occur in the early church, however it was only to the rank of Deaconess - not the modern sense of 'deaconess', who is just a women who i…

The Church (particularly in the diaspora) should have a firm teaching that we do not wilfully and overtly embrace politics as a force for good. We should only respect its members as we respect everyone else. As every generation observes its predeces…
