  • this is the one i listened to a million times on my mp3 player: http://tasbeha.org/mp3/Divine_Liturgies/Fr_Shenouda_Abba_Pishoy,_Liturgy_of_St_Basil_in_Arabic.html although in parts it switches to st. gregory's liturgy, just to confuse you! if you g…
  • sorry, we have been busy reading all the other threads here, there have been lots of discussions! we don't have problems with jews, many of us have jewish friends, but the current government of israel has done a lot of damage in lebanon and palestin…
  • interesting website, i think that some of the information is useful, e.g. they explain how psychologists sometimes consider the voices to be a route to the unconscious. e.g. if a person hears a voice telling them to hurt themselves, it could indicat…
  • i love to read your story, father peter  :) i also had a longing for greater depth, and i also found reading church history opened my eyes and was a great surprise. what non-protestant Christians don't understand is that it is really hard to find ou…
  • wow. thanks for sharing the poem.
  • protestants teach it is not sin, as it's not mentioned specifically in the Bible outside of other practices, eg bad thoughts. but i realised that as it's 99.9 percent of the time associated with bad thoughts, then it makes sense to consider it sin. …
  • bravo 'aleyke, nashkor allah thanks 2 God  :)
  • u don't have to fast before confession, u can confess any day of the week. but u can confess early before the divine liturgy if u didn't before, and if the priest arrives early (it is best to arrange this before), then, in that situation you will be…
  • definitely my priest. he is so sincere in his repentance and his love for God and for the people, and he prays the liturgy of gregory often. and no, he didn't record it! :o i personally think it's better to experience these things in person (in chu…
  • sometimes you have to deal with your parents like they are work-mates or neighbours. not everyone is good at being a parent, and many have not had good teaching in their own early life. also, sometimes we have expectations that are too high, and we …
  • i think u have the right idea. there is a basic difference between orthodox and protestant theology on this count. Having been protestant for many years before i became orthodox 2 years ago, i found that the orthodox explanation made more sense. in…
  • and it's the feast of saint john the evangelist tomorrow, not the baptist. sorry for all the confusion... :-[
  • hey, like yr new pic, who is that?
  • may God guide u. u can help yr friend best when u r strong, so pray from the agpeya, study the Bible, be diligent in taking Holy Communion and seek out a mature, kind friend from church who u can discuss spiritual things with. u know yr friend is we…
  • sorry, i was confusing epiphany with the feast of john the baptist, which is on wednesday. i'm still fairly new to the wednesday and friday fasting, i didn't observe all the fasting days when i first became coptic, i took it slowly.
  • pray, discuss it with a wise older person (eg. parent, FOC), pray. hang out with her and other people in a group to become friends, pray. get to know her family, and pray. may God guide you  :)
  • wow, so this wednesday is not sayami?
  • i understand we only eat meat and milk on wednesdays and fridays, when they occur in the 50 days after the resurrection feast.
  • yes it is ok, our bishop antony told us about it. i mentioned it under 'peaceful solidarity meeting' here in coptic orthodox church topics. :)

  • mina, do you mean that on wednesday and friday we eat only vegan food but do not abstain from eating and drinking for a period of time (midnight to 3pm) as on a normal wednesday and friday? i am not very good at the abstaining times, so for this re…
  • i can't answer all your questions, but there are usually some differences in translation. because there are not many people (ophadece excluded of course!) who speak both really good coptic and really good english, the coptic liturgies are translated…
  • yes, it was just friday Christmas day that was not a fasting day. :)
  • i agree, though i suspect that post was not 100% serious! certainly if you hated everything you would not be a good monk.
  • happy Christmas, may u have peace. many churches were very full, thank God. thanks to God for His timeless gift of eternal life.
  • may God bless us all, keep us strong and always ready to stand up for the gospel, no matter what it costs.
  • have upgraded to pale but colourful.
  • abstaining till 3pm is for great lent, and also all wednesdays and fridays, except for the 50 days after Holy Pascha, where we don't fast at all on wednesdays and fridays. so in the Christmas fast, abstaining from food or drink should be till 12 noo…
  • when we turn away from doing bad, and study the Bible and pray, then as we are praying, our spirit is close to the Holy Spirit of God and we pray in harmony with God's will. sometimes this prayer comes without words. but we need to be careful not to…
