yes, it makes sense, most copts born in egypt or sudan were used to going to church on friday, so lots of prostrations!
interesting how some of the church canons allow kneeling.
i must confess (if that is the right word!) that i tend to kneel on sun…
yep. no full prostrations till a day after pentecost.
i suggest you climb lots of stairs so your muscles don't hurt when you start doing them again!

i think you can still touch the ground and make the sign of the cross with a mid-waist bow, i ho…
there is a monastery in scarborough. i haven't been yet, but they accept visitors and my friends who have been say it's cool.
focus all your energies on God, who clearly loves you much more than any human ever could. when you get married and things …
we always say 'al Masihu qaam' after Christos anesti, but sometimes say 'qad qaam' during the liturgy when we are narrating the events.
this means (as far as i can tell) that Christ rose (past tense but not necessarily completed past tense), which i…
hi, i just meant it's best trying to love people who are still alive, or at least who u knew before they died. judas died about 2000 years ago, so i don't think he will benefit from our love. like, he isn't our enemy, he is a dead person who can't i…
i don't think it helps to try to love a wicked person who has died. so i don't try to love judas.
if he had been alive, i would have prayed for him to repent.
Jesus Christ loved the pharisees. if he had not, he would have said nothing and just let t…
as father peter said, we have to 'pray for our enemies'.
i used to pray to God to help me understand this, and after some years, i got the answer.
i had a serious enemy. he was trying to get me sacked and out of a job permanently.
it was doing my he…
how old are u? (i mean adult, teenager, getting on a bit, etc.)

i, personally would study something like 'the spiritual path to salvation in the writings of the early church fathers'.

'Christ' is greek for 'Messiah', a hebrew word meaning the one who would save israel. the jews did not think of the messiah as someone divine, they were expecting another moses or elijah to lead them out of roman occupation. and so the demons would …

about the question, we had a sermon about it a few weeks ago and abouna said that satan suspected it but was trying to check it out.
that is why satan gave all those testing questions when Jesus was tempted in the desert 'IF you are the Son of m…
sorry, father i was typing at the same time and didn't see your post.
i actually cried during the liturgy for those who don't know God and for the problems in churches generally.
i felt a bit weird doing that and tried to hide it, but reading your p…
not at all sinful, brother, in fact everyone i met so far on the spiritual journey has pain on the way.
the pain is part of the growth. we learn from it the way to be gentle with people when they come to us for advice about their own pain.

it really depends on your motives.
are you spending on yourself instead of others?
are you planning to share the knowledge or give the books to others when you have read them?
do you want lots of knowledge because you are proud?

thanks, father peter for the explanation of 18th April. it made it really clear to me and i believe it 100%.
but can i ask (any of you) a question on behalf of a friend?
as we (orthodox) know, Jesus' divine and human natures did not become separate …
thanks, i sort of am anyway, reading the Bible readings for Pascha instead of the psalms.
but do the other people get to do metanias? i mean if they don't do the agpeya?
hi, i looked here:
http://www.stmary-church.com/paschap2.pdf
but still don't understand some things.
please excuse my ignorance, i am usually at work during pascha and don't always manage even Good friday, so until this year i didn't realise we don'…

aah, then i am missing something. i have the paschal readings (in a leaflet from a church) but not the prayers. i suppose the prayers allow for metanias. i will look for a prayer book.
thanks
:)
can i ask something a bit off topic?
i know we read the paschal reading instead of the agpeya during Holy week, but do we still pray from the agpeya? i mean then read the paschal readings instead of the psalms but still pray the thanksgiving prayer,…
yes, imikhail, i was specifically watching out for this in church today, we did bow our heads after the Holy Communion after the deacon said to do that, and we bow/sit/kneel only before it. no heads right to the ground, though.
from what i understa…
