@Zoxasi 1. I take issue with your approach. Every single one of your posts has begun with an extremely oversimplified and reductionist assumption. This is where you are getting confused. You cannot explain everything in a series of one-sentence expl…

Just for fun: The company Adobe Systems was named after a certain Adobe Creek in California. California was once part of New Spain (Spanish North America). The word Adobe in Spanish means 'brick'. It entered the Spanish vocabulary via the Muslims in…

on a side note I thought everyone might enjoy the poetry inherent in body: Chemical equilibrium only occurs when you are physically dead.

@minasoliman They heat up?
-
@minasoliman HAHAHAHA I'm sorry but that spong guy is hilarious.
-
@minasoliman Iron and Fire??? I've heard about it but it hasn't been explained to me. @Remnkemi I only asked for specificity and concision because I am below a beginner level in this area. Most people who try to help don't have a coherent structure …

@ Girgisantony That verse from Romans has been paraded around for years by people who don't understand that politics isn't one thing. There are many forms of government. They all suck but they're still imposed on us in one form or another. St. Paul …

@Girgisantony Revelation Chapter 13: 1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw w…

Græco-Memphitic which is a modern corruption of actual Memphitic (Bohairic)

I sometimes just go to another Oriental Orthodox Church. No harm in that.

"The DaVinci Code may be a good fictional novel but it is ridiculous because David Brown portrayed it as fact and people began believing and buying into this conspiracy theory." yeah thats what i meant

great book btw

Isn't this just the plot of 'The DaVinci Code'?

@mabsoota I haven't read this particular book by Pope Abba Shenouda, but I agree with you in that I suspect any 'inaccuracies' or 'mistakes' are issues of translation. This isn't the first time this issue has come up regarding his books in english. …

I was talking about Portugal. @mcarmichael And to be honest, I really held back. It took everything I've got to hold back.

I think it was reduced regardless of its label as a crime or not.
-
@mcarmichael I didn't mean civility in the behavioural sense. I meant civil authority

I have been to a Syriac Church multiple times and can concur with @mabsoota. The kiss of peace begins with the priests who 'distribute' it two two deacons or subdeacons, who in turn walk through the church giving the kiss of peace to the people on t…

@cyril what did he say?

That liturgy was performed at St. Mary and St. Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Church in Mississauga, Canada, by invitation of the Coptic Church to the Syriac Church. Thats why there are coptic icons

Lectors (Readers) are tonsured, not ordained.

Female chanting is vital in the Syriac tradition. St. Ephraim the Syrian who wrote many hymns and virtually instituted the Syriac rite taught them to the women and charged them with the role of chanting in the liturgy. But they don't wear anything s…

While I have no opinion regarding cannabis, I thought I'd address the issue of civil disobedience. Civility and conformism as an unspoken norm is merely a useless facade along with taboos and all other 'hush hush' nonsense. Christianity was born out…

Maybe the new Liturgical Institute they recently opened can be useful in ridding us of the swill that is Protestantism. Protestant songs have no musical depth, no linguistic significance, and lack any theological depth, musically. They have reduced …

Perhaps we could formalise the distinct Rules of Monasticism and that might solve some of the issues. 1. The Rule of St. Anthony the Great: Monks live in near solitude, not necessarily in a monastery.2. The Rule of St. Pachomius: Communal system we …

This is just conjecture, but I'm guessing the cross was paraded extensively when it was rediscovered by Helen and Constantine, so we do the same thing. As for Palm Sunday, we do the same thing to represent the way parade Christ was paraded through t…

Avva shenouda doesn't always format well. the letters are longer than they are wider and sometimes are cut off. Kyrillos is the font used in the Bishop yousef books. It's similar to avva shenouda without the odd-looking outcomes
-
I've got Coptic Notes, and it certainly was a breakthrough, but of course it was very limited because the system didn't allow full integration. I would also love it if they used the Kyrillos font, rather than Avva Shenouda.

@mabsoota Are you in Scotland?
