Last night, on CTV, someone speaking said that the day of rest is meant to be Saturday. This is the 7th day. Why then do Christians in the west go to Church on Sunday and shop all day saturday??

The west was developed by Christians who kept sunday as the day of the Lord because it is the Resurrection day. So they take off the first day of the week and the last, Sunday and Saturday.
Sunday is for ALL Christians. IN Egpyt, or arabic countries, Friday is the main day because it's ran by muslims. Go to cairo, the main day off is Sunday. Also many of the private school within egypt take of Friday and Sunday, unlike public schools, fridays only.
