edited December 1969 in Hymns Discussion
Hello,

I know the great feast of Saint Abanoub is this week; i was wondering if any had any materials like when we say axios (3times), after the gospel reading we say oonaitoo, saintmary, saint mark, What is the part for saint Abanoub?

Anything else would be highly appreciated also. :)

  • Hi SaintMina,
you can say it like " beniot ethoab avva abanoub" or " Avva Abanoub bi rem nihis".
what ever you want. correct me if I am wrong.
    pray foe me
  • How can we call him avva if he was never a bishop or pope?
  • You call them avva because they are a spiritual guide to us, so in a way he is still our father even though he died very young.

sorry I mean aba not avva. like mar Mina we say aba Mina not avva mina. I am not sure what is the difference between them.

I agree with you on this - [coptic]abba [/coptic] would mean an elder saint but [coptic]apa [/coptic] would mean a title of respect

I am not sure about "peniwt =e=;=b" and it is not found with St. Mina at all

    st. Mina's is: [coptic]Hiten nieu,y `nte pia;lovoroc `mmarturoc@ `apa Myna `nte niVaiat@ `P=o=c ari`hmot nan `mpi,w `ebol `nte nennobi.[/coptic]

    St. Abanoub would best be: [coptic]Hiten nieu,y `nte pia;lovoroc `mmarturoc@ pi`agioc `apa Abanoub@ `P=o=c ari`hmot nan `mpi,w `ebol `nte nennobi.[/coptic]
  • I have a recording of a Vespers at St-Abanoub and St-Anthony; and the leader says:

Tovh emepchois ehri egon: Niathlovoros em martiros: O Abanoub bi rem nihis: Entef ka nennovi nan evol.

I dont know if it's right, but it's prayed by Fr. Anastasi, so I presume it's good. Or else he would've told them !!

    :)
