Bible Study

Does anyone know if there are any coptic bible study groups on the net. Because all i found was protestant groups which I'm totally against (not in a judging way).

Thanks

  • We should have our own virtual Bible Studys on this website.....what do you think guys?
  • i agree with WWJD86, we should have a bible study group on this website.

It would open our minds more and help us understand each other and especially the bible.
  • hey

i love Bible study - can we start one?

i used to do it with a friend of mine but they no longer want to do it with me :'(

maybe as a suggestion we name a book of the Bible and go through one chapter a week. so we say this week is chapter one and everyone reads chapter one and posts their contemplations on that chapter and things they have researched etc, then we move on to the next chapter the following week.

so how about we begin this on a Monday - so we meet next monday and every moday we move onto the next chapter

    so who is in?

i think that Copt4eva should choose the first book since he started this thread.

and in the meantime - to my friend - u know who u r - i wish we could start Bible study again :'(

  • This sounds like so much fun. I'll choose an easy book for a first go. Lets say Luke. (oops sorri for the late reply)
  • cool

so on Monday 1/1/2007 (wow the first day of the year) all those who want to participate are to have read the first chapter of the Gospel of LUKE.

and on Monday the 1/1/2007 people who are participating are to post any contemplations on that chapter or any background information they have researched or come across.

then the following monday we move on to chapter 2 etc!!

    happy reading!

  • hey

    thanks Crazy4Christ!!

ok here we are in 2007 the first official day of our Bible Study!!

ok who has read chapter 1????

this chapter talks of John the Baptist

my favourite verse is verse 41 which shows how John the Baptist while in his mother's womb acknowledged Christ as Lord while He also was in his mother's womb

so ill add the first fact that Luke was not a fisherman like most of the disciples but his profession was that of a doctor.

    ************************************************

ok we can post facts, contemplations or interpretations about the first chapter till sunday midnight!! as of monday 8/1/2007 we begin chapter 2.

    Kristina123
  • why dont we cut it... for about 6-10 verses... it would be better then when all is ready to move on... we make a new thread about each verse and maybe the "leaders of the site" can make a special area for us to post it!
  • well maybe so - but for now we shud just concentrate on the task.
i dont think one chapter a week is too much to ask! i mean it might not b as detailed as if we were doin a few verses but this moves things quicker - is that ok?

possible the original poster or the moderator can help us by making the topic one of the ones where it is always on top like the church father quotes in another category - CAN U DO THIS FOR US??

anyway Superman, do u have any contemplations about chapter 1?

    Kristina123

  • I'll do my best 2 follow the bible study on tasbeha.......
  • Im sorry Im unable to focus on a whole chapter... Im just not talented... but Ill be checkin the meditations every here and then maybe adding a thing or two... and ill go ahead and add something now...“So it was, that while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his division, according to the custom of the priesthood, his lot fell to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. And the whole multitude of the people was praying outside at the hour of incense. Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
And Zacharias said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”
And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings. But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.”
And the people waited for Zacharias, and marveled that he lingered so long in the temple. But when he came out, he could not speak to them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple, for he beckoned to them and remained speechless.
So it was, as soon as the days of his service were completed, that he departed to his own house. Now after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived; and she hid herself five months, saying, “Thus the Lord has dealt with me, in the days when He looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.”

“ Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”
But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.”
Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.”

Look in comparison the reaction to both… one was just questioning the will of God… while the other just accepted it with all happiness… that’s how we should be when presented with a service…. Or when we see the will of God… as something we “don’t want” we need to absorb it and accept it… we are maidservants to the lord! And manservant… lol we need to Honor the will of God in our lives at all times.

    My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
    For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
    And holy is His name.
And His mercy is on those who fear Him
    From generation to generation.
    He has shown strength with His arm;
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
    And exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.
He has helped His servant Israel,
    In remembrance of His mercy,
As He spoke to our fathers,
To Abraham and to his seed forever.”

This is a prayer we should always put in front of us at all times! But id like to mention one thing she says my spirit has rejoiced in God my SAVIOR… thus proving she has sins to be forgiven also.

  • Ok Nice words from people.

Now we will do Luke Chapter 2 this Monday.

  • Luke chapter 2 is talking about the birth and childhood of Jesus.

    Any contemplations?
  • But id like to mention one thing she says my spirit has rejoiced in God my SAVIOR… thus proving she has sins to be forgiven also.

Maybe St Mary just needed to be saved from the curse because of the original sin which is death to all human beings...is that what the coptic church teaches?

What do you guys plan on doing when you go back to school or go to university? do you plan on continuing this bible study?

But God knows everyone needs something different spoken to them.. one person is depressed and needs a word spoken different than one person who is suffering persecution for following God.

If you do this bible study thing you need also to spend more time for private bible reading or something..

  • i may be late for the start
but i totally recommend every one to download e-sword from
    www.e-sword.net
    with all bibles, dictionaries,...etc.
    it really helps
i use it my self now
    see it for your self
  • i am not sure if i would trust a source like that even though it seems reliable you don't know how they interpret the bible. you would want what our church says. not to put them down and i think what that guy is doing is great but it might not be that reliable

God Bless and Pray for me and my weakness
