What is the unforgivable sin?

edited December 1969 in Faith Issues
I have heard that blasphemy against the holy spirit is when you dont believe in jesus and grieve the holy spirit until you are dead. Then I heard that the unforgivable sin is attributing the work of god to the devil like the pharisees did. Im so confused? IF the pharisees wanted to repent of what they said, could he forgive them?

  • I remember Pope Shenouda explained that blaspheming against the Holy Spirit is the unforgivable sin. He explained saying that the Holy Spirit is what leads a person away from sin and towards repentance, and thus towards salvation and remission of sins. If you blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, then there will be no means of repentance, no means of salvation, and no means for remission of sins.
