When in the Sanctuary, on either side of the Altar- which direction should we face? We are told to look towards the East, but shouldn't we face the Altar (Facing North on womens' side, and South on mens' side)?

  Thanks.

Facing the altar is the right direction.

I think the command applies to the congregation only, which is not in the sanctuary.

I guess he means when the deacon says "And look towards the East."

  Makes sense.

Ok  .. and the deacon in the sanctuary should be looking in the direction of the altar
