If a priest or bishop has been excommunicated, can they still do the liturgy?

edited December 1969 in Coptic Orthodox Church

Obviously, no one may attend the liturgy, but can he still perform it and have the holy communion by himself??

Does him being excommunicated mean that he is no longer a priest?? Or is he still a priest but no longer part of the COC?

  • He is forbidden to serve the liturgy as he is under discipline. He is still a priest in the sense that he would not be reordained if he was reconciled. But a priest can only serve with the authority of his bishop, apart from that he does not have any authority himself.
