I've had an HP for 2 years and it overheated like crazy... However, I just got another one on black friday (obviously because it was on sale for $550 USD!!!) It's perfect; no overheating, no lagging, and I got avast free antivirus for it. (it's an i5 with 4GB Ram in case you're wondering)

most of those problems depend on the processor.

very true. especially AMD processors. they tend to overheat enough to bake a small pigeon. However, AMDs also tend to put out more power at once, while intel's excel at multitasking.

I used to have an hp...it barely lasted a month! I then got a Mac and I have been using it for around 3 years now. My suggestion is a Mac, you won't regret it. The only reason people say it's hard to use because they are too used to PCs. I actually think a PC is really hard to use compared to a Mac. The best thing, you don't need any certain specs because the Mac has it all. The thing Apple has is quality over quantity, unlike Microsoft.

Thank you all you guys for your posts.
The thing I see the most is Dell and Mac.
I will go with Dell I think. Mac is sooo sick and
I wish to have one but is not for my, rather for my family.
I don't think my dad will buy a 1000$ laptop in my house.
  Any specific Dells?
I need an big size hard-drive, 4GB ram, under 700$.
That is pretty much all the REQUIRED specs.
  God bless, Pray for me,
  Cyril
