ilovesaintmark · September 2010

Out of the eight tiles that I was able to see, I identified:

1. Blessed Heart (not Orthodox)
2. Sacred Heart (not Orthodox)
3. The Mother of Perpetual Help Icon
4. St. Joseph carrying the Lord
5. "Our Lady of Fatima" (not Orthodox)
6. Padre Pio (not Orthodox)
7. "The Lady of Guadalupe" (not Orthodox)

If you read the website that the image is linked to it seems the blogger bought this bracelet in South America, so it will be a South American Catholic bracelet and not very Orthodox.

kirollos3 · September 2010

are not the catholic close to in believing in the saints ??

peterfarrington · September 2010

Yes, they are close in the sense of having a veneration of saints. But the figures on this particular bracelet are not Orthodox. They are all to do with particular Catholic devotions.

There are bracelets that are made by Orthodox and which have Orthodox saints on them. Here is an example..

oh .. i remember my servant told me once ... our picture of jesus and his hands coming out .. are always 1 fingure ... but the catholic or something else the picture of jesus you see 3 fingers out

mezza · September 2010

I just wanted to say that i bought my braclet from my Coptic Orthodox Church

ilovesaintmark · September 2010

It's because the people in these bookstores are not careful about what they put in. Also what looks kind of "religious" does not necessarily equal "Orthodox". Tell your priest about it, and it will help to have it removed from the bookstore.

kirollos3 · September 2010

ya .. abouna should know that ..

mezza · September 2010

Yo dudes my braclet isnt the same as the one on the website, mine has angels but i dont know who they are i was thinkin someone could tell me
Dont be so rude to my church :(

geomike · September 2010

Mezza I have been noticing that u take offense at the slightest thing. I am not insulting u but we as Christians should not be like this, if somebody hurt ur feelings u shouldn't assume that they were trying to hurt u. We weren't insulting ur church he was saying that some Egyptians in the bookstore just see Saint Mary then assume it's ok when in reality it might not. We suggested that u tell ur abound so that he can educate the book store people being the wise man that he is, so that nobody goes astray or misrepresents our church.

God with u all

They do believe in saints

peterfarrington · September 2010

mezza,

Why do you think that Catholics do not believe in saints?

Every Catholic Church is named after a saint. They have saints days. They have the relics of saints. They have statues of saints.

God bless you

Father Peter

mezza · September 2010

OH but i didnnt think, my bad dont worry bout that part, like the saints on my braclet have scrolls which is why i thought they were angels, so yea i have many with scrolls

mezza · September 2010

CCatholics dont call Saint Mary, Saint Mary, they call her just Mary, which is y i thought they didnt

peterfarrington · September 2010

In the hail Mary, the most common prayer of all Catholics, they say,

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners...

Holy Mary is exactly the same as Saint Mary. Saint is after all only the Latin word for holy. Until modern times no-one was called a saint, because saint just means holy. They were called holy Peter, or holy John. It is only because we are using an old Latin word in English that it seems like a title.

Father Peter

colugi · September 2010

Ohhh thats intereresting, I new that they had Saints but I didnt actually know that saint meant holy. thanks for that. You learn somthing new everyday. BIII

mezza · October 2010

meanz · October 2010

I thought St Augustine was a recognised saint in the Coptic Orthodox Church????Even though he was a bishop in the Catholic Church.
We have a priest in my diocese called Fr Augustinos!!!??? And HH has quoted him on many occations.

peterfarrington · October 2010

None of the Fathers of the Church refer to his teachings until very late - 14th century and later.

He has become popular in very modern times in the Coptic Orthodox Church.

Father Peter

mnc_hnn · October 2010

ilovesaintmark · October 2010

mnc_hnn · October 2010

ilovesaintmark · October 2010

I was being funny.

But, actually that is good to know. I will put it into my brain for future reference.

Howdy, Stranger!
