Why everything is sung and not just read

I can't remember exactly but someone told me a story about St. Mark having to sing the gospel to the Egyptians in order to teach it to them. Could anyone fill me in on the details of why everything in the Coptic church is sung and not just read?

EVERYTHING needs to be sung because it a way of praise and therefore always prayer.

St. Paul says:  'he who sings prays twice'.
