How is sarcasm a sin?

our small group was talking about what we should be doing in lent, and our leader said that we should stop sarcasm?  how is it bad though?

when it's toooo much, it becomes a sin. but in general, it's not.

stopping an action in lent doesn't mean that it is a SIN but rather something that we might do and have no control over sometimes.
  • I understand now. Thanks! :)
  • You don't know how the other person will respond to sarcasm. You may comment in a sarcastic way about someone's looks, or something they said or did. If the person was being bullied in the past, or is insecure about the specific thing you commented on, or is just overly sensitive, it may hurt them and cause more feelings of insecurity. We should strenghten eachother and be sensitive towards delicate issues. Sarcasm usually causes the opposite.
It's not like we can't joke around anymore, but you should try to develop a sense of balance here. Find out what you can say, when and about whom. Some people may not say it, but they get hurt in a very bad way due to sarcasm.
