edited December 1969 in Hymns Discussion
Why for st. mina do we have 2 hitenis,

pi agios ava mina eptchois.........

ava mena ente nifiat eptchois..........

And which one is the original, and which one is more commonly used?

  • my church uses abba mena ente nifayat i was aware of the other but i don't think it is that common
  • This is what's right:

    [coptic]Hiten ni`eu,y `nte pi`a;lovoroc `mmarturoc@ apa Myna `nte niVaiat@ P=o=c ari`hmot nan `mpi,w `ebol `nte nennobi.[/coptic]
  • what is nifiat? my only guess would be the city marriout, egypt in coptic?
  • Fayat is a city or area in upper egypt i believe, i could be mistaken for its exact location in egypt but i am pretty sure its in upper egypt

it's the wilderness of Faiat, where Maryot is. so Maryot is a place in Faiat, or in arabic, el-Bayad.
some books say St. Mina El-Maryoti, but i rather follow the coptic.
