The Bunch of Grapes/

English
Arabic
Font:

There was a vine of grape
That grew out of season
A monk of the monks took it
And brought it to the Abbot.

The Abbot, he thanked him
Makarious the Great
He thought to give it to a monk
Tired and very old.

He then told him you´ll win
You are an old monk
And the blessing that arrives
We´ll give to those who need.

The monk Khaglan took it
And also said himself
"How can I eat of it,
And my brother sleep hungry".

The vine kept on increasing
Circling without a thought
And finally returned
To Makarious the Great.

The Saint arose in haste
Gathered the monks and said
"I´ll tell you of a story
But only the High effects."

"I see that the love
Is growing bit by bit
And my affirmation
This is the vine of love!"

"My Lord You are the Light
You are the God of Love
And a candle that is lighting
Its brightness never hides."

There was a vine of grape
That grew out of season
A monk of the monks took it
And took it to the Abbot.

Another Version:
1- A purple bunch of grapes,
Red, black or green grapes,
What color could it be
That sweetest bunch of grapes?

2- It grew out of season,
A monk said I have reason
To present it to the senior
My dearest Abbot Macarios.

3- He took it and he thanked
Then gave it to a monk
And said, "He better get it,
He's very weak and old."

4- The old monk thought it's better
To give it to another.
All of them did the same,
They gave it to each other.

5- The bunch came back to the saintly
St. Marcarios who quickly
Gathered all his monks
To tell them of the story

6- He showed the bunch of grapes,
A fruit so sweet to the taste,
Because it stands for love,
The love that never fails.

7- True love grows and grows,
Like candle light it spreads,
We pray the Lord it stays
Kindled in our hearts.
