But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts,
بَلْ قَدِّسُوا الرَّبَّ الإِلَهَ
eretensovtiⲉ̀ⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲥⲟⲃϯ emmotenⲙ̀ⲙⲱⲧⲉⲛ enseeouⲛ̀ⲥⲏⲟⲩ niven:ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ:
and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you,
فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ،
evapologiaⲉⲩⲁ̀ⲡⲟⲗⲟⲅⲓⲁ enowonⲛ̀ⲟⲩⲟⲛ nivenⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ethnaⲉⲑⲛⲁ eretinⲉ̀ⲣⲉⲧⲓⲛ emmotenⲙ̀ⲙⲱⲧⲉⲛ enousaji:ⲛ̀ⲟⲩⲥⲁϫⲓ:
with meekness and fear;
مُسْتَعِدِّينَ دَائِماً لِمُجَاوَبَةِ كُلِّ مَنْ يَسْألُكُمْ عَنْ سَبَبِ الرَّجَاءِ الَّذِي
ethveⲉⲑⲃⲉ tihelpisϯϩⲉⲗⲡⲓⲥ etⲉⲧ khenϧⲉⲛ theenou.ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ.
having a good conscience,
فِيكُمْ بِوَدَاعَةٍ
AllaⲀⲗⲗⲁ khenϧⲉⲛ oumetremravshⲟⲩⲙⲉⲧⲣⲉⲙⲣⲁⲩϣ nemⲛⲉⲙ ouhoti:ⲟⲩϩⲟϯ:
that when they defame you as evildoers,
وَخَوْفٍ،
eowonⲉ̀ⲟⲩⲟⲛ entotenⲛ̀ⲧⲱⲧⲉⲛ emmavⲙ̀ⲙⲁⲩ enousineetheesisⲛ̀ⲟⲩⲥⲩⲛⲏⲇⲏⲥⲓⲥ enanes:ⲉ̀ⲛⲁⲛⲉⲥ:
those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.
وَلَكُمْ ضَمِيرٌ صَالِحٌ،
hinaϩⲓⲛⲁ entouchishipiⲛ̀ⲧⲟⲩϭⲓϣⲓⲡⲓ enjeⲛ̀ϫⲉ nee-etsajiⲛⲏⲉⲧⲥⲁϫⲓ kharotenϧⲁⲣⲱⲧⲉⲛ emefreetiⲙ̀ⲫ̀ⲣⲏϯ enhansampethoouⲛ̀ϩⲁⲛⲥⲁⲙⲡⲉⲧϩⲱⲟⲩ o-wohⲟⲩⲟϩ etchi-aowoⲉⲧϭⲓⲁ̀ⲟⲩⲱ̀ empetenjinmoshiⲙ̀ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲛϫⲓⲛⲙⲟϣⲓ ethnanefⲉⲑⲛⲁⲛⲉϥ khenϧⲉⲛ Pi-ekhristos.Ⲡⲓⲭ̀ⲣⲓⲥⲧⲟⲥ.
For it is better,
لِكَيْ يَكُونَ الَّذِينَ يَشْتِمُونَ سِيرَتَكُمُ الصَّالِحَةَ فِي الْمَسِيحِ يُخْزَوْنَ فِي مَا يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ كَفَاعِلِي شَرٍّ.
NanesⲚⲁⲛⲉⲥ gharⲅⲁⲣ ereteniriⲉ̀ⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲓ̀ⲣⲓ empipethnanef:ⲙ̀ⲡⲓⲡⲉⲑⲛⲁⲛⲉϥ:
if it is the will of God,
لأنَّ تَألُّمَكُمْ إِنْ شَاءَتْ مَشِيئَةُ اللهِ وَأنْتُمْ صَانِعُونَ خَيْراً،
isjeⲓⲥϫⲉ efowoshϥ̀ⲟⲩⲱϣ enjeⲛ̀ϫⲉ pitheleemaⲡⲓⲑⲉⲗⲏⲙⲁ enteⲛ̀ⲧⲉ EfnotiⲪ̀ⲛⲟⲩϯ entetenchi-emkahⲛ̀ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛϭⲓⲙ̀ⲕⲁϩ ehoteⲉ̀ϩⲟⲧⲉ ereteniriⲉ̀ⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲓ̀ⲣⲓ empipethoou.ⲙ̀ⲡⲓⲡⲉⲧϩⲱⲟⲩ.
to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
أفْضَلُ مِنْهُ وَأنْتُمْ صَانِعُونَ شَرّاً.
JeϪⲉ o-eeⲟⲩⲏⲓ hofϩⲱϥ Pi-ekhristosⲠⲓⲭ̀ⲣⲓⲥⲧⲟⲥ afmouⲁϥⲙⲟⲩ enousopⲛ̀ⲟⲩⲥⲟⲡ ethveⲉⲑⲃⲉ efnoviⲫ̀ⲛⲟⲃⲓ e-ehreeⲉ̀ϩ̀ⲣⲏⲓ egonⲉ̀ϫⲱⲛ pi-ethmeeⲡⲓⲑ̀ⲙⲏⲓ ejenⲉ̀ϫⲉⲛ ni-oji:ⲛⲓⲟ̀ϫⲓ:
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God,
فَإِنَّ الْمَسِيحَ أيْضاً تَألَّمَ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً مِنْ أجْلِ الْخَطَايَا، الْبَارُّ مِنْ أجْلِ الأثَمَةِ،
hinaϩⲓⲛⲁ entefentenⲛ̀ⲧⲉϥⲉⲛⲧⲉⲛ ekhounⲉ̀ϧⲟⲩⲛ emefnotiⲙ̀Ⲫ̀ⲛⲟⲩϯ eafmouⲉ̀ⲁϥⲙⲟⲩ menⲙⲉⲛ khenϧⲉⲛ etsarksⲧ̀ⲥⲁⲣⲝ efonkhϥ̀ⲟⲛϧ theⲇⲉ khenϧⲉⲛ Pi-epnevma.Ⲡⲓⲡ̀ⲛⲉⲩⲙⲁ.
being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,
لِكَيْ يُقَرِّبَنَا إِلَى اللهِ، مُمَاتاً فِي الْجَسَدِ وَلَكِنْ مُحْيىً فِي الرُّوحِ،
KhenϦⲉⲛ faiⲫⲁⲓ nike-epnevmaⲛⲓⲕⲉⲡ̀ⲛⲉⲩⲙⲁ etⲉⲧ khenϧⲉⲛ pi-eshtekoⲡⲓϣ̀ⲧⲉⲕⲟ afshenafⲁϥϣⲉⲛⲁϥ afhishennoufiⲁϥϩⲓϣⲉⲛⲛⲟⲩϥⲓ noou.ⲛⲱⲟⲩ.
by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison,
الَّذِي فِيهِ أيْضاً ذَهَبَ فَكَرَزَ لِلأرْوَاحِ الَّتِي فِي السِّجْنِ،
Nee-etaveratthotⲚⲏⲉ̀ⲧⲁⲩⲉⲣⲁⲧⲑⲱⲧ enheetⲛ̀ϩⲏⲧ enouseeou:ⲛ̀ⲟⲩⲥⲏⲟⲩ:
who formerly were disobedient,
إِذْ عَصَتْ قَدِيماً،
hoteϩⲟⲧⲉ theⲇⲉ etaschihoⲉ̀ⲧⲁⲥϭⲓϩⲟ enjeⲛ̀ϫⲉ timetrefoouϯⲙⲉⲧⲣⲉϥⲱ̀ⲟⲩ enheetⲛ̀ϩⲏⲧ enteⲛ̀ⲧⲉ EfnotiⲪ̀ⲛⲟⲩϯ khenϧⲉⲛ ni-ehoouⲛⲓⲉ̀ϩⲟⲟⲩ enteⲛ̀ⲧⲉ No-eⲚⲱⲉ̀ etafthamioⲉ̀ⲧⲁϥⲑⲁⲙⲓⲟ enoukivotos:ⲛ̀ⲟⲩⲕⲩⲃⲱⲧⲟⲥ:
when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared,
حِينَ كَانَتْ أنَاةُ اللهِ تَنْتَظِرُ مَرَّةً فِي أيَّامِ نُوحٍ، إِذْ كَانَ الْفُلْكُ يُبْنَى،
thee-eteⲑⲏⲉ̀ⲧⲉ hankoujiϩⲁⲛⲕⲟⲩϫⲓ nohemⲛⲟϩⲉⲙ enkheetsⲛ̀ϧⲏⲧⲥ evolⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗ khenϧⲉⲛ pimoouⲡⲓⲙⲱⲟⲩ eteⲉ̀ⲧⲉ eshmeenϣ̀ⲙⲏⲛ (eshmeen)(ⲏ̅) empsisheeⲙ̀ⲯⲩⲭⲏ ne.ⲛⲉ.
in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.
الَّذِي فِيهِ خَلَصَ قَلِيلُونَ، أيْ ثَمَانِي أنْفُسٍ بِالْمَاءِ.
PaireetiⲠⲁⲓⲣⲏϯ enthotenⲛ̀ⲑⲱⲧⲉⲛ hotenϩⲱⲧⲉⲛ tinou:ϯⲛⲟⲩ:
There is also an antitype
الَّذِي مِثَالُهُ يُخَلِّصُنَا نَحْنُ الآنَ،
efnanahemϥ̀ⲛⲁⲛⲁϩⲉⲙ theenouⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ khenϧⲉⲛ outiposⲟⲩⲧⲩⲡⲟⲥ enteⲛ̀ⲧⲉ o-oms:ⲟⲩⲱⲙⲥ:
which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh,
أيِ الْمَعْمُودِيَّةُ.
enoukoⲛ̀ⲟⲩⲭⲱ e-ekhreeⲉ̀ϧ̀ⲣⲏⲓ anⲁⲛ enteⲛ̀ⲧⲉ outholebⲟⲩⲑⲱⲗⲉⲃ enteⲛ̀ⲧⲉ etsarks:ⲧ̀ⲥⲁⲣⲝ:
but the answer of a good conscience toward God),
لاَ إِزَالَةُ وَسَخِ الْجَسَدِ،
allaⲁⲗⲗⲁ khenϧⲉⲛ ousineethesisⲟⲩⲥⲩⲛⲏⲇⲉⲥⲓⲥ enanesⲉ̀ⲛⲁⲛⲉⲥ e-epjintovhⲉ̀ⲡ̀ϫⲓⲛⲧⲱⲃϩ emefnotiⲙ̀Ⲫ̀ⲛⲟⲩϯ evolⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗ hitenϩⲓⲧⲉⲛ eptonfⲡ̀ⲧⲱⲛϥ enieesousⲛ̀Ⲓⲏⲥⲟⲩⲥ Pi-ekhristos.Ⲡⲓⲭ̀ⲣⲓⲥⲧⲟⲥ.
through the Resurrection of Jesus Christ,
بَلْ سُؤَالُ ضَمِيرٍ صَالِحٍ عَنِ اللهِ بِقِيَامَةِ يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ،
Fee-etkeeⲪⲏⲉⲧⲭⲏ saouinamⲥⲁⲟⲩⲓ̀ⲛⲁⲙ emefnotiⲙ̀Ⲫ̀ⲛⲟⲩϯ eafshenafⲉ̀ⲁϥϣⲉⲛⲁϥ e-epshoiⲉ̀ⲡ̀ϣⲱⲓ e-etfe:ⲉ̀ⲧ̀ⲫⲉ:
who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God,
الَّذِي هُوَ فِي يَمِينِ اللهِ، إِذْ قَدْ مَضَى إِلَى السَّمَاءِ،
o-wohⲟⲩⲟϩ avchnegoouⲁⲩϭⲛⲉϫⲱⲟⲩ nafⲛⲁϥ enjeⲛ̀ϫⲉ hanangelosϩⲁⲛⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲟⲥ nemⲛⲉⲙ haneksousiaϩⲁⲛⲉⲝⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ nemⲛⲉⲙ hangom.ϩⲁⲛϫⲟⲙ.
angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
وَمَلاَئِكَةٌ وَسَلاَطِينُ وَقُوَّاتٌ مُخْضَعَةٌ لَهُ.
Pi-ekhristosⲠⲓⲭ̀ⲣⲓⲥⲧⲟⲥ ounⲟⲩⲛ etafshepemkahⲉ̀ⲧⲁϥϣⲉⲡⲙ̀ⲕⲁϩ khenϧⲉⲛ etsarksⲧ̀ⲥⲁⲣⲝ e-ehreeⲉ̀ϩ̀ⲣⲏⲓ egon:ⲉ̀ϫⲱⲛ:
Therefore,
فَإِذْ قَدْ تَألَّمَ الْمَسِيحُ لأجْلِنَا بِالْجَسَدِ، تَسَلَّحُوا أنْتُمْ أيْضاً بِهَذِهِ النِّيَّةِ.
o-wohⲟⲩⲟϩ enthotenⲛ̀ⲑⲱⲧⲉⲛ hotenϩⲱⲧⲉⲛ khekϧⲉⲕ theenouⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ empai-esmot:ⲙ̀ⲡⲁⲓⲥ̀ⲙⲟⲧ:
since Christ suffered for us in the flesh,
فَإِنَّ مَنْ تَألَّمَ فِي الْجَسَدِ كُفَّ عَنِ الْخَطِيَّةِ،
jeϫⲉ fee-etafchi-emkahⲫⲏⲉ̀ⲧⲁϥϭⲓⲙ̀ⲕⲁϩ khenϧⲉⲛ etsarksⲧ̀ⲥⲁⲣⲝ aftalchofⲁϥⲧⲁⲗϭⲟϥ evolⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗ haϩⲁ efnovi.ⲫ̀ⲛⲟⲃⲓ.
arm yourselves also with the same mind,
لِكَيْ لاَ يَعِيشَ أيْضاً الزَّمَانَ الْبَاقِيَ فِي الْجَسَدِ لِشَهَوَاتِ النَّاسِ، بَلْ لِإِرَادَةِ اللهِ.
E-epjinethrefeshtemshopiⲈ̀ⲡ̀ϫⲓⲛⲑ̀ⲣⲉϥϣ̀ⲧⲉⲙϣⲱⲡⲓ jeϫⲉ khenϧⲉⲛ hanepithimiaϩⲁⲛⲉ̀ⲡⲓⲑⲩⲙⲓⲁ enromi:ⲛ̀ⲣⲱⲙⲓ:
for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
لأنَّ زَمَانَ الْحَيَاةِ الَّذِي مَضَى يَكْفِينَا لِنَكُونَ قَدْ عَمِلْنَا إِرَادَةَ الاُمَمِ،
allaⲁⲗⲗⲁ epsepiⲡ̀ⲥⲉⲡⲓ enteⲛ̀ⲧⲉ pefonkhⲡⲉϥⲱⲛϧ khenϧⲉⲛ etsarksⲧ̀ⲥⲁⲣⲝ entefaifⲛ̀ⲧⲉϥⲁⲓϥ khenϧⲉⲛ efowoshⲫ̀ⲟⲩⲱϣ mefnoti.̀ⲙⲪ̀ⲛⲟⲩϯ.
that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men,
سَالِكِينَ فِي الدَّعَارَةِ وَالشَّهَوَاتِ،
KeenⲔⲏⲛ gharⲅⲁⲣ erotenⲉ̀ⲣⲱⲧⲉⲛ empiseeouⲙ̀ⲡⲓⲥⲏⲟⲩ etafsiniⲉ̀ⲧⲁϥⲥⲓⲛⲓ ereteniriⲉ̀ⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲓ̀ⲣⲓ emefowoshⲙ̀ⲫ̀ⲟⲩⲱϣ enniethnos:ⲛ̀ⲛⲓⲉⲑⲛⲟⲥ:
but for the will of God.
وَإِدْمَانِ الْخَمْرِ،
eretenmoshiⲉ̀ⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲙⲟϣⲓ enekhreeⲛ̀ϧ̀ⲣⲏⲓ khenϧⲉⲛ hanchokhemϩⲁⲛϭⲱϧⲉⲙ nemⲛⲉⲙ hanepithimiaϩⲁⲛⲉ̀ⲡⲓⲑⲩⲙⲓⲁ nemⲛⲉⲙ hanthikhiϩⲁⲛⲑⲓϧⲓ enouthoⲛ̀ⲟⲩⲑⲟ enreeti:ⲛ̀ⲣⲏϯ:
For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness,
وَالْبَطَرِ،
nemⲛⲉⲙ hanjerjerϩⲁⲛϫⲉⲣϫⲉⲣ nemⲛⲉⲙ hansofϩⲁⲛⲥⲱϥ nemⲛⲉⲙ hanthoϩⲁⲛⲑⲟ emvotiⲙ̀ⲃⲟϯ emmetshamsheⲙ̀ⲙⲉⲧϣⲁⲙϣⲉ itholon.ⲓ̀ⲇⲱⲗⲟⲛ.
lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.
وَالْمُنَادَمَاتِ،
EteⲈ̀ⲧⲉ feeⲫⲏ peⲡⲉ etowoiⲉⲧⲟⲩⲟⲓ enshemmoⲛ̀ϣⲉⲙⲙⲟ enkheetfⲛ̀ϧⲏⲧϥ entetenchojiⲛ̀ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛϭⲟϫⲓ nemoouⲛⲉⲙⲱⲟⲩ anⲁⲛ ekhounⲉ̀ϧⲟⲩⲛ epifonⲉ̀ⲡⲓⲫⲱⲛ evolⲉ̀ⲃⲟⲗ roⲣⲱ enteⲛ̀ⲧⲉ timetatougaiϯⲙⲉⲧⲁⲧⲟⲩϫⲁⲓ evjeowa.ⲉⲩϫⲉⲟⲩⲁ̀.
In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.
وَعِبَادَةِ الأوْثَانِ الْمُحَرَّمَةِ، الأمْرُ الَّذِي فِيهِ يَسْتَغْرِبُونَ أنَّكُمْ لَسْتُمْ تَرْكُضُونَ مَعَهُمْ إِلَى فَيْضِ هَذِهِ الْخَلاَعَةِ عَيْنِهَا، مُجَدِّفِينَ.
Nee-ethnatiloghosⲚⲏⲉⲑⲛⲁϯⲗⲟⲅⲟⲥ emfee-etsevtotⲙ̀ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲥⲉⲃⲧⲱⲧ etihapⲉ̀ϯϩⲁⲡ enee-etonkhⲉ̀ⲛⲏⲉⲧⲟⲛϧ nemⲛⲉⲙ nee-ethmoout.ⲛⲏⲉⲑⲙⲱⲟⲩⲧ.
They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
الَّذِينَ سَوْفَ يُعْطُونَ حِسَاباً لِلَّذِي هُوَ عَلَى اسْتِعْدَادٍ أنْ يَدِينَ الأحْيَاءَ وَالأمْوَاتَ.
EthveⲈⲑⲃⲉ faiⲫⲁⲓ gharⲅⲁⲣ avhishennoufiⲁⲩϩⲓϣⲉⲛⲛⲟⲩϥⲓ ennikerefmooutⲛ̀ⲛⲓⲕⲉⲣⲉϥⲙⲱⲟⲩⲧ hinaϩⲓⲛⲁ ensetihapⲛ̀ⲥⲉϯϩⲁⲡ menⲙⲉⲛ eroouⲉ̀ⲣⲱⲟⲩ kataⲕⲁⲧⲁ niromiⲛⲓⲣⲱⲙⲓ khenϧⲉⲛ etsarks:ⲧ̀ⲥⲁⲣⲝ:
For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh,
فَإِنَّهُ لأجْلِ هَذَا بُشِّرَ الْمَوْتَى أيْضاً، لِكَيْ يُدَانُوا حَسَبَ النَّاسِ بِالْجَسَدِ،
entowonkhⲛ̀ⲧⲟⲩⲱⲛϧ theⲇⲉ kataⲕⲁⲧⲁ emefnotiⲙ̀Ⲫ̀ⲛⲟⲩϯ khenϧⲉⲛ pi-epnevma.ⲡⲓⲡ̀ⲛⲉⲩⲙⲁ.
but live according to God in the spirit.
وَلَكِنْ لِيَحْيُوا حَسَبَ اللهِ بِالرُّوحِ.
Na-esneeouⲚⲁⲥ̀ⲛⲏⲟⲩ empermenreⲙ̀ⲡⲉⲣⲙⲉⲛⲣⲉ pikosmosⲡⲓⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ outheⲟⲩⲇⲉ nee-etshopⲛⲏⲉⲧϣⲟⲡ khenϧⲉⲛ pikosmos:ⲡⲓⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ:
Do not love the world nor the things in the world.
لا تحبوا العالم ولا الأشياء التي في العالم.
pikosmosⲡⲓⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ nasiniⲛⲁⲥⲓⲛⲓ nemⲛⲉⲙ tefepithimia:ⲧⲉϥⲉ̀ⲡⲓⲑⲩⲙⲓⲁ:
The world passes away, and its desires;
العالم يمضي وشهواته،
