Ibn Kabar's book

edited December 1969 in Coptic Orthodox Church
Does anybody have Mizbah al zolma by Abu al-Barakat Ibn Kabar in Arabic? I know there is an English version online that has chapters 1-4 of book 1. I'm looking for the remaining chapters. Does anybody have a pdf version of the Arabic text (either Samir Khalil's 1972 version or Bishop Samuel's 1992 version)?

  • I don't have an answer but would you mind posting the link to the English version? I'd love to read it :)

  • Link Man does it again!
  • The online bookstore link doesn't work. I needed the first link. But I'm also looking for Volume 2. Can Link Man pull off Pisemsi oi `natjom (mission impossible)?
  • Yes, he can.
  • Thanks GM & TITL for your nice words tho all I do is just a little search  :)

Remnkemi this link points to 12 units (and their chapters) so may be you'd check all the book parts are there. They are listed in Arabic in the greenish column.

  • OK I've just read the book has 24 chapters.

I made it two volumes containing 24 Chapters as follows:

    (1)  Chapter One:  Concerning Faith, Its Origin and all its parts.
    (2)  Chapter Two:  The Orthodox Creed and its Explanation.
    (3)  Chapter Three:   In the Carnation of the Lord and the Dates of Corresponding Laws.
    (4)  Chapter Four:  The Acts of the Apostles and Some of the Stories of their Lives.
    (5)  Chapter Five:  An Index of the Accepted Laws (Canons) and Councils.
    (6)  Chapter Six:  Concerning Accepted (Holy) Books of the Church.
    (7)  Chapter Seven:  About the Righteous of the Nazarene (Copts) and their writings
(8 )  Chapter Eight:  About Church Buildings, Consecration of Church and Altar.
    (9)  Chapter Nine:  About the Preparation of Myron, it’s elements and consecration.
    (10)  Chapter Ten:  The Selection, Introduction, and Consecration of the Patriarch.
    (11)  Chapter Eleven: The Selection, Introduction, and Consecration of Bishops.
    (12)  Chapter Twelve:  The Introduction, Consecration, and Duties of Priests.

    book pt.2
    (13)  Chapter Thirteen:  The Consecration of Deacons, Sub deacons and the lesser Ranks.
    (14)  Chapter Fourteen: Concerning Monastics, their Consecration and Duties.

    (16)  Chapter Sixteen:      About the Prayers of the Hours of the Day and Night.
    (17)  Chapter Seventeen: Concerning Liturgies, Offerings and Mysteries.
    (18)  Chapter Eighteen: Concerning the Holy Lent Fasting Season and Paschal Week.
    (19)  Chapter Nineteen: Concerning the Pentecost Season and the Lord’s Feasts.

    (24)  Chapter Twenty Four:  Many Parts About the History of the World, and Summary
Of The History of the Patriarchs of the See of St. Mark.

  • With the grace of God part 2 of the book in Arabic:
    http://www.4shared.com/get/0SfR4Hny/_____2____Links.html

Manuscript is in Arabic with its Coptic content, it is difficult to find the printed version of part 2.

    & part 1 - just in case:

  • Thank you so much Link Man. The last 2 links are Bishop Samuel's version. The other link on ixoyc.net is Samir Khalil's version. I did not find volume 2 of Samir Khalil's version. If you find that, I'd have to call you Super Link Man.
  • You're welcome Remnkemi (never mind the Super tho, the current logo is more than enough!).

Are you sure that Part 2 of Jesuit Fr Samir Khalil's version of the book was ever printed? It seems it's not publicly available, not even a printed 1st edition of Part 2 by Al-Karuz press; it can be accessed via contacts with Jesuit or Catholic academic centers in Lebanon.

Since Fr Samir Khalil is Catholic, I think the Coptic Orthodox rites found in the Ibn Kabar text may differ from the currently adopted Coptic Catholic rites.

A copy of the original Ibn Kabar manuscripts could be found in the CO Patriarchate library archives.

It's my understanding that Volume 2 of Fr Samir Khalil is the Coptic sources. I don't know where the book would be.

Since Fr Samir Khalil is Catholic, I think the Coptic Orthodox rites found in the Ibn Kabar text may differ from the currently adopted Coptic Catholic rites.

This is not an issue at all since Ibn Kabar was Coptic Orthodox, not Catholic.

A copy of the original Ibn Kabar manuscripts could be found in the CO Patriarchate library archives.

And how would you suggest I get access to the Patriarchate's library?
  • How about part 2 in English?
  • Thank you very much dear John_S2000. I don't know how I didn't come across this thread before!!!
