Question about holy pictures

edited December 1969 in Random Issues

Greetings and May God Bless you all

I have a question that I am in need to get an answer for. What are we to do with old Worn Out holy pictures?  (eg. pictures that kids get in Sunday School)

Is it ok to shred them?

Any other suggestions

Thanks

  • in oriental orthodox churches (eg coptic), you can throw them out or shred them (as far as i know). in eastern orthodox churches, they put them in the 'holy trash' and the priest burns them and puts the ashes somewhere in the church gardens. that's according so some people i used to chat with on the internet.
  • Hey,
My mum does something really cool...
Last time, she washed our pillow cases but forgot to take out the saint pictures that we kept in there, so she gathered them, waited for them to dry, and put them in a pretty box and put it on our prayer room bookshelf. She puts all worn out pictures there too the including little bottles of holy oil that have been used up.

Sometimes people use them for the foundation of a house when they are building, so save them, or give them to abouna if he knows someone who is going to build a house, or even a church!
  • I like to save every picture I ever receive or get...

a beautiful picture can help in an ugly day!

    neshkor Allah, akhadna el baraka!
  • Thanks very much for the answers

    God bless
