Artificial Insemination

I have been reading online and found that the eastern orthdox church approves of artificial insemination in certain cases. And someone told me that this is the coptic church's view too. As I understand, artificial insemination involves masturbation which I thought was a sin in all cases. So if masturbation is always a sin, how come artificial insemination is not also always a sin?

    Actually, they can take the sample during/after sexual intercourse. Further, it is not self-gratification in this context- the design of sex is for procreation- which is clearly what is being acheived here. I will leave it to someone else to elaborate.
