Serbian Orthodox

edited December 1969 in Non-Orthodox Inquiries
Hey everyone,

Is the Serbian Orthodox Church Oriental or Eastern Orthodox?? I always thought it was Oriental but now it seems they are Eastern. Anybody know for sure?? I kind of need to know cuz someone is Serbian Orthodox and they want to come and attend our church and take communion but I'm not sure if they are oriental or not.

  • I'm 99.9% sure they are eastern.

    Oriental are as follows:
    Coptic
    Syrian
    Armenian
    Indian
    Ethiopian

I believe thats all, let me know if I missed any.

    I agree.
  • yup
not to forget however that the
British Orthodox Church and the French Orthodox Church are related to the Coptic Orthodox Church, thus making them Oriental Churches as well.
  • The Serbian Orthodox Church is definitely Eastern Orthodox. I have been to Serbian Orthodox liturgies a few times, and they're pretty cool. But because I am Coptic, I was unable to partake of  Holy Communion. Has anyone had any thoughts about opening up dialogue between Oriental and Eastern Orthodox youth in a more formalised way? Obviously we would need the respective bishops' apporval...

They Are under the Coptic Orthodox Section, we are 5 sister Churches, they are under coptic orthodox, if they weren't we would be 7 sister churches.

    Forgive me, my Brethren.

You mentioned you wanted to open up dialogue with Eastern Orthodox young adults: www.orthodoxcircle.com.  Another good one to check out (although they are just getting started... so bear with them) is www.issacharnetwork.org.  Check them out, and let me know what you think.

Pray for me, my dear Brothers and Sisters.
  • Hey, someone has opened the topic about my Church  :)

Serbian Orthodox Church belongs to the family eastern Orthodox Churches.
We are similar most more Romanian orthodox Church and  Russian orthodox Church.
Have little resemblance with  Armenian (oriental) orthodox Churche.

    This we are:

    SPC

    :-*
  • March 2004.,
destroyed 150 churchs (!!!) Serbian Orthodox Church,
almost all the churches in our southern province.

Antichrists want to destroy the Serbian people and Serbian church,
and in fact helping them all the world powers.
:(  Our Church was crucified Church!
    Very violent video:

  • Hello my Coptic friends!

    Big greetings from Serbia!

In the recent period I became more interested in what Oriental Churches believe indeed. And I realized that your faith is almost similar to our. I looking forward to hear a good news on the progression our unity dialogue! I'am more dedicated to dialogue with Oriental Churches rather than with Roman Catholic and other Western churches since we have so much in common with you.

    Best regards!
Ivan -<Dyonisios>(for my brother "Serb") :-)
  • Hi brothers and sisters :)
    2 points:
    1. all the eastern and oriental orthodox had a meeting in 1990 in geneva, switzerland and agreed that we basically believe the same thing. they need to get together again though, and sort out us being allowed to take communion together. one senior clergy member i spoke to said that many bishops are too busy arguing to engage in useful dialogue. this means it's hard for the other bishops and patriarchs to sort it out. please pray for them that they may have lots of wisdom and humility to 'consider others better than yourself' and to love one another as our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ loved us.
when you look at the root causes of arguments between Christians, unfortunately they are often due to pride and the love of power, not due to genuine concern over having the correct doctrine.

    2. please pray for the eritrean orthodox church, and also the other Christians in eritrea as they are suffering a lot right now under a socialist military government who attack all religions (Christians, Muslims, Animists) and force the population to join the army to fight oppresive wars against neighbouring countries. young men who refuse to join the army are treated very badly and there is very little freedom there. many Christians have fled and some even have walked hundreds of miles to sudan or other countries to escape. Christian meetings are limited and controlled and they are keeping the patriarch of the orthodox church, abouna antonius, under house arrest and preventing him from carrying out his duties. the eritreans (orthodox and protestant) who have managed to escape to the uk and visit my church (coptic) are lovely, godly people whose faith under immense suffering is very humbling. please pray for them and for their friends and brothers left behind who are suffering.

may God help us to worship him in all humility and in spirit and truth
    pray for my weakness

I hope that our Lord and Saviour Isus Hristos (Jesus Christ) will lead us toward our real unity in faith and true.

I think that it is very important that we should know each other better in order to avoid potentional problems that may occure if unity really come. Some non-informed group from both side may be suspicious. So it is necesary that interested Christians from both sides to know clearly and unquivocaly what is our common confession of the Faith and to know that there is nothing heretical.

I read this for a first time. I hope that Christ Pantocrator will give a pious goverment to the suffering Christians of Eritrea. We, Orthodox in Serbia, have suffered a lot under communist regime. The caused 3 schismes in Serbian Orthodox Church. One is surpassed, but the other two (schism with Chursch in Macedonia and with (I cannot name them like a Church) in Montenegro.

Nowadays, Serbs and Serbian Orthodox Church are martyrs in our southern Province Kosovo and Metohia. Since 1999, muslim Albanians destroyed more than 150 Orthodox churches from Medieval period, banished more than 250,000 Serbs from Kosovo and Metohia, and killed several thousands.

Look at this example of savageness. Look how they fight against the Holy Cross. This is martyr St.Elia's Church in the city of Podujevo, destroyed in 2004.

May God be with you my Christian friends!
    Greetings from Serbia!
    Ivan
