E-aghapy, greek or coptic?

edited December 1969 in Hymns Discussion

Hello

I was wondering why the hymn E-aghapy is written in both greek and coptic language?
By example:

[coptic]nem `tpolic `mPennou][/coptic]= and the city of our God"

is that something common in hymns, to use both languages in one hymn? And are there more hymns written like this?

Thnx
Marian

i would say that it's just something common. many of out hymns are that way.
  • DEFINITELY Greek (majority).
  • Yeah your right, majority is indeed greek.

But i was wondering how come that it was mixed with coptic, is it possible that the coptic part has been added later?
  • the greek part is taken directly from the gregorian anaphora ("The love of God the Father, the grace of His only-begotten Son Jesus Christ...ETC). The coptic part was slammed on and they composed the music for it as a whole. so the coptic was added for the pope and some of the greek sections too.
