Why is the Litany of the Departed said on Saturdays?

In Matins, why is the Litany of the Sick said on Sunday-Friday, but on Saturday we say the Litany of the Departed? I can’t find a source detailing why this is.

Keep me in your prayers!

  • Because Christ was in the tomb on Saturday, and Lazarus was too. Sunday is the day of the Resurrection, no death there! That’s all :)
