New Book: St. Cyril of Alexandria's Christological Dialogue on the Incarnation of the Only-Begotten

edited August 2014 in General Announcements
Hello everyone,

It is not everyday that one runs into a new Patristic text, never before available in English! This is the first English edition of St. Cyril of Alexandria's Christological Dialogue on the Incarnation of the Only-Begotten, just recently published by St. Cyril Orthodox Christian Society. [http://stcyrilsociety.org]. This would be a great book to acquire for all those interested in Patristics, soteriology, and Christology.

Description:

The present work is the first English translation of Saint Cyril of Alexandria’s Dialogue on the Incarnation of the Only-Begotten, published in Greek in Migne’s PG 75:1189-1253; and subsequently in critical edition and French translation by M. De Durand, Cyrille d’Alexandrie: Deux Dialogues Christologiques, Sources Crétiennes, v. 97 (Paris, 1964), pp. 188-301.
Translator: Emmanuel Gergis ; Editor: Ramez Mikhail

The work also includes an introductory study on the text and St. Cyril's theology written by Emmanuel Gergis (M.A., M.Litt.), which was presented to the faculty of University of Balamand in 2013 as the culmination of Emmanuel's MA degree in Orthodox Theology.

  • This is very very exciting....3obal the Thesaurus and Dialogues on the Trinity ;)
  • Thanks Mina!

Please spread the word if you can to anyone you think would be interested.

While I am not aware of any future efforts to translate such larger works of St. Cyril, stay tuned for more publications by St. Cyril Society in the near future, These include a forthcoming translation of some of Fr. Matta Al-Meskin and Fr. Athanasius Al-Maqary's meditations on the sacrament of Baptism, as well as the first issue of Alexandria School Journal in English with scholarly contributions in various fields of theology (http://stcyrilsociety.org/asj-journal/).
  • If you like, I can copy and paste your message on another forum.
  • That would be great, Mina! Thanks for sharing!
