Hey all.

I had a serious question about how to write a tarniema. And especially in arabic.

From my childhood I am a fan of spiritual songs, and when I am in a sensitive mood, i wrote little texts, but because my arabic is also not that good i doubt how i should put it in words.

So, what are the requirements for the lyrics of a song? Also that it not becomes a 'protestant' song or something.

Also, the topics which I love the most, because they are sensitive, are tears and repentance. Also: sadness.

Also, the kind of songs i have in my minds are like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ek_XxlFS_hc
And : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJMAAU3It8c&playnext=1&list=PL858064271C5AA6ED

How are these songs written? Where have they thought of when they wrote them? What lead them write exactly these songs?

So any idea's or advices??

GB

Agape,

I came across an entire online video course on Armenian Hymnography. The course is from St. Nersess Armenian Seminary in NY.

The link to the first course is: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/12302542

They also get into Byzantine, Syrian, and Georgian traditions of hymnography and how the Armenian tradition was influenced and influenced those traditions as well. More importantly, the theology of the hymns are discussed in details, and that would be very interesting in terms of the hymns that we share with our sister Church.

Hi All,
I really want to share my problem with you.
I like coptic hymns so much, & I love to teach it as well. Unfortunately I see that nowadays the coptic hymns started to disappear, & people are not interested anymore to learn them. I'm a deacon in my small church, & unfortunately people (even deacons) don't want to put any effort to learn coptic hymns at all. I have always tried to teach them but they don't like to learn because they think it’s too hard & due to time restrictions, we will never get the chance to say the Coptic hymns anyway. I used to love Coptic hymns to bits, to the point of learning everyday. But now I’m just down, frustrated, disappointed, I stopped learning now because I don’t see any point of continuing. Does this situation happen often in other churches? What do you think I should do? Do you think I should continue learning hymns even though we never get the chance to say them?

My question is what are the original rites concerning this hymn? I'm not referring to the rite that we hear all the old amos in church say, which is "only if pope is here."

The kholagy that the Dioceses of Los Angeles, Hawaii, and the Southern United States use states (word for word):

"If the Pauline Epistle is read in Coptic, the following introduction is chanted:
Pavlos evok empenchoise....(continuation of the Coptic introduction)"

Then it goes on to say the following:
"After the reading, the following conclusion is chanted:
Piehmot ghar je amen eseshopi

People:
Piehmot ghar... (continuation of the hymn)"

I'm thinking that since it doesn't say something along the lines of "If the Pope, Metropolitan(s), or Bishops(s), is (are) attending, then the following is chanted" like it says for "Ni savev teero" or "Marochasf," then this hymn can be said on two occassions:
1. After the Coptic Pauline Epistle or the Intercessions if the Pope, Metropolitan(s), or Bishops(s), is (are) attending.
2. After the Coptic Pauline Epistle and skip the part about the bishop.

I say "skip the part about the bishop" because in the kholagy, it says "In the presence of a metropolitan(s), bishop(s), the following is said:

Nem peniot.... (continuation of the hymn).

which means that pi-ehmot ghar is said only after the Pauline Epistle in Coptic.

The second source is the common (most likely misinterpreted) one that it is said only in the presence of the pope, metropolitan(s), bishop(s).
