Order of Lazarus Satruday

Lazarus Saturday is the day between the 40 days of fasting and the Holy Week. Therefore the liturgy and all the events leading to it are chanted in the annual tune instead of the Lenten tune or the Palm Sunday tune.
The order of the day is conducted as listed:


  • The Midnight Praises:
    1. The doxology of Lazarus Saturday is chanted before the doxology of St. Mary after the Commemoration.

    2. After the Fourth Hoos, the Watos Psali for Lazarus Saturday is chanted.

    3. The praises than continues as of a Saturday.

  • The Matins:
    1. The prayers starts normally as in normal Matins until the verses of cymbals where the part for Lazarus is added after the part for St. Mary.

    2. The doxology of Lazarus Saturday is chanted before the doxology of St. Mary.

    3. After "Efnouti Nai nan," the lights are shut and the prophecies are read.

    4. After prophecies, the priest prays the litany of the Gospel instead of praying the prostrations.

    5. After the gospel, its appropriate response said and than the prayers continues as usual.

    6. Matins is than concluded normally with Amen Alleluia with the annual response.

  • The Liturgy:
    1. The Third & Sixth hours of Agpeya are prayed.

    2. The hymn "Alleluia Fai be pi" is chanted and the prayers continues as usual

    3. The appropriate Praxes response is chanted before the part for St. Mary and the prayers continues as usual

    4. After the gospel, its appropriate response said and than the prayers continues as usual.

    5. the Aspasmos Adam is chanted and the prayers continues as usual

    6. Psalm 150 is prayed in the annual tune and than the communion hymn of Lazarus is chanted in annual tune.

    7. The Lazarus' Hymn is not available, the deacons can say any annual hymn.

    8. Than the liturgy is concluded as usual.
