Baptism

edited December 1969 in Coptic Orthodox Church
Granted: this is a far flung statement at this time, but God has a mysterious way of working:

What would happen if I became baptized?

What is baptism like and what does it mean?

How is the person baptized understood before and after baptism?

am sure many posts will be writtin about this....but i always like to start with some simple and strong words.

    Before Baptism:
    The sin = death rule
Living in a never-ending sin world
    Not knowing the Creator.
    Living in darkness.
Not knowing what to do…(following what is just there)

    In Baptism:
Dying with Christ, resurrecting with Him.
Washed of the old consequence of sin.
    Be cleansed by the water.
Chrismation takes place (on all the joints of the body – 36 anointments all together)
    Receiving the Holy Spirit.

    After Baptism:
    New life.
Full Communion with Christ and God.
Living in and through the light.
Lead by the Holy Spirit (if fully, granted the fruit of the Holy Spirit)
    Living in the truth.
Granted the forgiveness of sins (through repentance and confession)

    And can’t miss this:
Being able to enter the heaven…
  • Very cool, that was sweet and to the point!

    What about Confirmation?

Confirmation is also known as Chrismation.  As Mina pointed out, this occurs essentially at the same time the person is baptized.  The person is anointed with the Holy Myron oil and it is with this anointing that the Holy Spirit descends on the person.  To read more about the seven sacraments of the Church, check out H.G. Bishop Mettaous' book SACRAMENTAL RITES IN THE COPTIC ORTHODOX CHURCH.
