I need help to understand the Sermon on the Mount. I don't understand what it means by,' Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor the kingdom of heaven belongs to them'. Does it mean that if i know i am spiritually poor that i own the kingdom of heaven? Ive read H.H.Pope Shenouda's book on it and i still don't get it! Plz forgive my lack of knowledge. Thank u

  • hi, I'm not 100% but i thik that it's referring to humbleness, ie: you wouldn't be worthy of heaven if you believed you were of high spirituality..

fell free to correct me.. ?
  • I believe this what it means, and that is the impression I got from H. H. Pope Shenouda III book on Sermon on the mount.
  • To be poor in spirit is to be humble. The kingdom belongs to them because they will be fellow heirs with Christ in it.
    This verse may help

    James 2:5
Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?

    God bless
