    Hi Servos,

Would give us the historical background? What is the motive for the government? Have other Orthodox Churches given a statement on this matter, conforming who is the legitmate party? What do the schismatics say? etc.

Macedonia is ancient (before Christ) historical Greek province with capital town of Thessaloniki bordered in north with Serbia and Bulgaria.
From 1430 untill 1912 Macedonia was occupied by Turks.
In 1912 Serbia, Greece and Bulgaria united fight against the Turks and won Turkey in so called First Balkan War.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Balkan_War
Serbia, Greece and Bulgaria again become neighboring states (like in the middle age) and define state borders.
Ancient province of Macedonia as a border region was divided in three.

So in that area lives 3 natios: Greeks (also called Macedonians), Serbs and Bulgarians.

When atheistic communistic regime occupied Orthodox Serbia after II World War communists wants to make a balance between Orthodox Serbia and Roman Catholic Croatia (in Frankenstein state known as Yugoslavia). So because Serbia was much bigger and Croatia much smaller they divided Serbia in small provinces like Bosnia, Kosovo, Montenegro... and "Macedonia".
They start ethnic engineering to try to create new artificial nation. They took Serbian territory and people, Greek history, a little Bulgarian language, ... and created new nation "Macedonians" along with original Macedonians who are Greeks.

Anyhow, because communistic Yugoslavia was dictatorship this insane project start to bear the fruits. And, if anyone in that region wants job, money, position in the society, education... he should change his identity from Serbian to "Macedonian".

Now, we have Serbs and "Macedonians" who speak the same language. We have original Macedonians who are Greeks, and Greek language has nothing in common with Serbian (and "Macedonian"), so Macedonian and "Macedonian" can not understand one word of their languages.

Atheistic Communists in order to better brain wash the local people decided to create "Macedonian Orthodox Church".
They expelled in 1945 all bishops from that region (who all were Serbs), and all monks, nuns and one part of the priests (who also all were Serbs).
The Communists created some "Organisational committee" who created the "Macedonian Orthodox Church" without bishops. The canonical bishops from that region was expelled and all died in exile. The last XX century canonical bishop of Skopje Joseph died in Belgrade in 1957.
The communists after 1945 searched all the world, Europe, Australia, America... trying to find one Orthodox bishop who will be the head of that communistic organizations called "Macedonian Orthodox Church" and could not find no one.
But, in 1967, one bishop Dositheos from Serbian Orthodox Church for some reason accepted to be the head of that organizations. Anyhow, until now, this organization is not recognized by no one Orthodox Church in the world.

In 2004 Bishop John of "Macedonian Orthodox Church" decided with one third of monks and priests to join again the Orthodox Church. The Government in Skopje was furious.

So, we have now in that region 2 churches. One with bishop John recognized by whole Orthodox world but not recognized from local Government who persecute them. Another one with "bishop" Stephen, not recognized by any Orthodox church in the world but recognized from local Government.

Canonical Church is now outlawed in Republic of Skopje.
For example, in this video you can see the funeral, but because decedent is member of the Canonical Church and because the priests of Canonical Church do the funeral service, police does not allowed the family to buried him:

  • Thank you Servos. The parallel between Archbishop Jovan & Abouna Antonios of Eritrea is obvious - both Orthodox fathers are imprisoned for their faith & their flocks.

We are proud to have such apostolic fathers - these are the true shepherds!!!

  • Serbian police remove Muslim monument to the terrorists
    January 20, 2013

PREŠEVO (SOUTH SERBIA) -- Members of the Serbian police removed a controversial monument in downtown of Muslim area Preševo around 7:15 CET on Sunday.

According to reports, there were no incidents.

Around 200 Serbian Gendarmerie officers came to the southern town’s main square this morning with heavy machines. They used a bulldozer to dislodge the monument and then lifted it onto a truck.

Small number of Muslim citizens watched the operation from nearby buildings.

The square was completely cleaned after the Serbian Gendarmerie removed the monument.

The monument honoring Muslim terrorists members of the so-called Liberation Army of Preševo (UCPMB) was erected in November 2012 by local Muslims. Serbian top officials said it would have to be removed by January 17.

The monument was not removed within the envisaged deadline so the Serbian police removed it.

  • Dear Servos,

I was recently introduced to 'Prayers by the Lake' (http://www.sv-luka.org/praylake/index.htm), a wonderful collection of prayers authored by St Nikolai Velimirovic.

I was wondering if you could tell me what sort of role and importance these prayers have in Serbian Orthodox piety?

    God bless you.

    Dear InChrist7,
Saint Nicholas of Serbia is one of the most prominent Serbs in XX Century.
He wrote a lot. And in Serbia he is called Serbian Chrisostomos.
Some of his works are philosophical, some of his works are written for the simple people. Prayers by the lake are quite popular between Orthodox Serbs.
I'll post soon in this topic more about him.
