Antiphonarium

edited December 1969 in Hymns Discussion
Hi. Does anyone have a recording of the antiphonarium, or difnar, being read? I also understood its supposed to be chanted? Is there a different tune for watos, Adam, kiahk, great lent, etc.

  • There are many different tunes for the tarh. There is the Great one which is about 20 mins or so. Then there are the expositions for palm sunday with its own tune, and annually,as well as kiahky and festively. One of which is chiouoini, also on the tune of pikhristos pensotir.
  • there is a difference between the difnar, antiphonarium, and the commentaries/turuhat/expositions.
  • yea ur right yo i got confused lol my bad  i knew something seemed funny when i wrote it
  • in some occasions, the difnar is said after the commentary of the day where it would follow the tune of the commentary.

May you elaborate? I thought that antiphonarium is difnar in English.

oh. i think i worded that wrongly. i did mean that the difnar is the antiphonarium.
  • Do you know what are the roots for the English word, Antiphonarium? In other words why Antiphonarium, not simply Difnar?

I believe it is because antiphonarium is the English word. Difnar is the Arabic word for it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I know that. I meant what are the roots for the word "Antiphonarium"?
  • the root for the word is antiphon which is a hymn structured to be chanted in a way where two individuals or groups, or an individual and a group may alternate chanting parts of the hymn.
