Great Schism

Where we part of the Great Schism? Also, why did they split?

Comments

  • The Great Schism refers to the split of the Church of Rome and the Church of Constantinople in the year 1054. The split was because of the filioque or the dogma of the procession of the Holy Spirit from the Father and the Son. The Church of Rome added the words "and the Son" to Who proceeds from the Father in the Creed. Constantinople rejected the addition and so the Schism.

    Thanks.
  • And we agree with the Church of Constantinople? And was the church of Constantinople the eastern orthodox churche?

we agreed, but no, we were not part of the split because we were well out of the picture by then (from 451). and yes, the church of Constantinople is part of the Eastern Orthodox.

Yes, we do not have the Filioque in our creed. That was in fact the Split between the Church of Rome and the Eastern Orthodox Churches as we know them today.
