JOSEPH THE CARPENTER OR SAINT JOSEPH THE CARPENTER?

edited December 1969 in Faith Issues
Our church glorifyes St. Mary above all else and is second only to the Trinity.

This I can understand - yes she bore christ and is therefore important etc.

But what about Joseph who provided for the holy family, fended for them and made countless sacrifices for them as a whole.

His action were hardly recorded and he practically fathered the child God.

  • Do we know where he went after all this?
Like he lead St Mary and our LORD to Egypt, then we stop hearing about him.

Does the church know anything about what happened in the remaining fraction of his life?
  • Well if you read the last sentence of the synexariam about him you will see that he departed in the sixteenth year of the advent of our Lord. The Gospels do not really focus on the years between the birth of Christ and the beginning of his service, so it makes sense that we never hear of him again. We hear of St. Mary because she was alive and even then she is mentioned very briefly, once at the wedding of Cana, at the time she and Christs' "brothers" come to visit, at the time of the Cross and lastly at Pentecost, other than that she is not really mentioned that much.
