Personality traits for monks

People who choose certain role in life are consistent with their personality traits. For example, computer programmers tend to have “thinking” approach to problem-solving. Lawyers are good at dealing with people, able to see and understand both sides of the issue(s)... etc

Are there any common personality traits for monks?

    one thing is that he must be absolutely not tied to anything in the world and must not find pleasure in worldly things at all

    The only difference as mentioned by H.H. Pope Shenouda between a lay person and a monk- is the continual prayer life. The monks lives to fulfill this duty and should be separated from the world.

    The monk should not be affected by the environment around him, and it should not be a controlling factor. Events in the world affect us, due to our connectedness with others; however, the monk, who is disconnected should not be as deeply affected because his sole desire is to have this strong dialogue with the Savior.

    Common personality traits are usually humility and persistence (in good habits).

    The three vows- Poverty, Chastity & Obedience

    Remember, that although the church has placed great regard for these fathers, the church also did forget to place a high regard for those saints who were married, the monastic life does not guarantee Heaven.
