Need Help With History Project, ASAP

Hey everyone,

I am doing a project for history on-

What Is the Coptic Church?

I need FIVE sources by Friday. Three sources need to be books and I thought it would be easy finding them online, but I fail. Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey, There is also Two Thousand Years of Coptic Christianity by Otto F. A. Meinardus and i agree with Taishory with Father Tadros' book. There is also the school of alexandria before and after origin(I don't think this applies very much, but it was a theological school)

    If you go to books.google.com and enter Coptic Orthodox Church into the search field then a lot of books come up, some with only references, but others which much more substance.

    The information in this book seems pretty weird. Can someone briefly go over this? Did in fact Dioscorus follow Eutyches in his heresy as a patriarch?

    No. Pope Dioscorus did not follow Eutyches into any heresy, and nor did the people of any of the Oriental Orthodox communities.

    You must read books written by people outside our Orthodox communion with some discretion.

    Looking at the book you were linking to, it is a very old book and was written at a time when many Western writers had little knowledge of our communion.

    That book in specific has so many erroneous facts that it would take me ages just to list them all. I came across this a while ago: http://www.tertullian.org/fathers/severus_hermopolis_hist_alex_patr_01_part1.htm

    It was written by Bishop Severus of Al'Ashmunein in the 10th century AD and it goes through the history of our first 52 patriarchs and the church during this time. I believe he is the best record of our early church so this should be of much use to you.

    hi, this link is v interesting, is it widely accepted as an accurate historical document by our current church fathers?
    e.g i have heard of the discourse between theodosius the jew and philip before but didn't before hear about the idea that Jesus had secretly been made a jewish priest during His time on earth. is this mainstream tradition? if so, i will read it more  :)

    I looked this up in the Suda, which is where this story is also found in Greek and it states the following: "Both from what Josephus wrote and from what the evangelist Luke recounted we know that when Theodosius the Jew told the aforesaid tale to the above-mentioned Philip the silver merchant, he did not invent this, but truly as to a genuine friend he entrusted the mystery which had been hidden by the Jews.
    But Chrysostom does not at all accept this priesthood attributed to Christ.[6]"

    I'm not even sure why this story is in Severus' book, as I do not believe it was originally in there when he wrote the history. If someone knows anything about this please inform me as I'm not sure at all.
