How do you make yourself more interested in the Bible.

  • Geomike, what a tough question. One way to become interested might be by knowing some facts about the Bible. For example that it is written by about 40 authors over 1,500 years. It is amazing that 40 people over such a long time said the same thing.
To help one have a bigger picture and not get lost in the detail you can categorize the bible into some major parts.
    One way would be:
    1. Mans Creation and straying from God in Genesis.
    2. Gods struggle to bring man back (which is the chunk of the Bible), between Genesis and revelation.
    3. Mans reunion with God in the Book or revelation.
Another way to categorize it would be the development how God revealing himself
    1. The patriarchs era (Abraham, Noah, etc) this can be taken as God revealing himself as slight light – God as a Star light.
    2. The prophets era; God is revealed better – God as a Moon light
    3. The coming of Christ; the full knowledge of God – God as a Sun light.
Geomike, asking questions (as you are doing now) and discussing what you read is also very important. Here is a link to an article on ‘How to Read the Bible’ by Bishop Kallistos Ware:

May God open our understanding and guide us to study his Word in obedience.
Let us strengthen each other during the Great Fast!!! :)
    In Christ

  • maybe you've tried this before,
but how about trying to relate everything you read to your own personal life?
My priest says there isn't one chapter in the bible we can't relate to our personal lives. :) gbu
