lust

edited December 1969 in Personal Issues
Everybody has a sin that he is stuck to. Mine is lust. What ever advice you have to help me get rid of it or to lessen the temptation would be greatly appreciated. Don't be offended if i didn't thank you. I think that if i thank you i have stolen from you. Stolen the reward that you will get in heaven.

Pray for me and my weakness.

  • I know it's hard to deal with. If there's anything valuable I could tell you, it would be to not lose hope. No matter how hopeless you may feel, don't let the devil triumph over your despair. That's what he wants you to fall into infinity times more than to fall into lust. You're already on good ground because you have a desire to repent. What's good about your current situation is that more and more, as you struggle bitterly, you will become disgusted from yourself because you can no longer look in a pure way. This is good because you see sin as it is, in its actual form--as repulsive as God sees it. Then your desire to break free from "the sin which so easily ensnares us" is stronger. Then you pray, go to the Church, read your Bible (regularly), and confess. You surround yourself, as much as you can, with holy and good people and spend as much time as you can in the church.

It doesn't stop there. Never think that the devil will leave you--but He who is for you is much greater than the devil against you. Whenever a bad thought comes to your head, do the sign of the cross on your forehead. Trust me, it works. Don't pay attention to where you are or who's watching you--you do what you need to do. Tell yourself it's not appropriate for a child of God to think such thoughts. Think about heaven--about the place Jesus ascended to prepare for you with your name on it. Will you really let such a disgusting sin separate you from the eternal glory prepared for you specifically.

If you're a Sunday School servant in your church, that's so much better. If you're not, perhaps you're a deacon (or any other kind of servant). Think of your pure, holy service. If you teach little kids, think of their extreme faith and unfailing innocence. Think of the hypocrite you don't want to be. Think of how your sin makes you unworthy to stand in front of them on Sunday as a role model for them to look up to.

Finally, another good thing about your struggle is that God willing when God gives you victory over this sin, you will be a more humble person. When people praise you, it will fly right over your head as if they're talking about a stranger. You will always be conscious of your sin and weakness, and thereby more rely on God as the source of your strength over sin.

I know how tough this struggle can be—so I wanted to show you the positive. It could be a very long struggle, but no matter what, don't give up. Things may get worse before they get better, but you must believe that they will get better. You must have faith that no matter how repulsive your lust is, that God still wants you. He has a place for you. He'll be devastated if you don't join Him.

Sorry for the long post, but please read through it; I pray to the Lord that you find it comforting, if not helpful. I want to leave you with a verse to keep in mind during this struggle (War) against lust: Romans 5:19-21
19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, 21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
  • One more verse I thought of:
    Acts 14:22

"We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God".

    Geomike,

Try to use your sexual desires to glorify God. In doing so, you will find that you've raised your quality of life to a standard that will bring you much Joy.

That was the Bible reading last week actually: That Christ came to bring us Joy, and abundantly.

I know we live in a culture where we are bombarded continuously with lustful images etc.. but you don't need to let that influence you. If your heart is clean, so will your eye be clean, so you will only pity sexual images you see afterwards, and even pray for these people.

Perhaps others may not agree with me.. but - although it is a sin, worry more about what the effects of that sin are doing to you. This is (in my opinion) more serious.. and God really cares for the sinner - not because he's lost, but when he is lost, he is suffering.

I can definately tell you, unless you are with God, it is complete depravation otherwise.

I think the sacrament of confession has a lot to play here. You need to sit down quietly with yourself and see where you let your heart be consumed by such things and then confess it, and then turn away from it.
    That's the 1st step.

Its not access to the internet that has allowed that. We are beyond this. Where is this desire coming from?
Why is your heart in such a condition? I'm curious?

In Islam, they have to ban all access to porn sites so that they don't have lustful thoughts. Christianity goes to the root cause of the problem... and that is your heart.

What is in your heart? Why is it there??
  • hi, God bless you

Do you feel you are in a bondage? like a captive? do you feel you are a slave to this sin? Do you feel that this sin is contolling you? Can you say no when ever it starts? Do you feel that you are living in darkness?

if your answeres were all No, this here are the good news; God is inviting to take your slavery and give you freedom. But bear in mind he paid a very high price for your freedom. He gave his only son on the cross to free you.
This inviation in right now and is not scheduled for future dates.
to accept his invitation you need to do the following:
1- cut any source that feeds you.
2- you may want to sleep on the floor for a day or 2 as you can to humilate your body. (this is left for your, you may came up with whatever suits you)
3- do mataya as much as you can and everytime say "Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light. Micah 7:7-9
He redeemed my soul from going down to the pit, and I will live to enjoy the light. Job 33:27-29
You are my lamp, O LORD; the LORD turns my darkness into light. 2 Samuel 22:28-30
it is very important to substitute your head by those kinds of verses. it is kind of brainwash.
4-keep begging God for freedom. Don't give up.
5- think that God gave away his presious son, what will you be able to give away in return?
I'm sure your will taste freed[move][/move]om soon. God bless you and I will keep you in my prayers--God bless
