The answer people is in the law.

People have the right to express themselves. If in expressing themselves they diminish in anyway the quality of life of those around them, then it should be a crime.

This can be applied to ANYTHING: loud music - I shouldnt have to be exposed to someone's music, porn in public places, certain offensive publicity in public places. There has to be the creation of an idependent government body made of various interest and religious groups that can condone what is to be published, heard, viewed in public.

    That's the answer. Period.

    i disagree as per usual
    PERIOD
    laws are important.......
but this is media exposure of lethal material lol..........this comes under SOCIAL NORMS.....society have accepted that bodies are sex objects and shudnt be thought of otherwise.......
tell me wat can the law do??
get rid of porn? no way as if they wud...they need the media on side....without the media politicans r nothing.........

correct me if im wrong anglican but he's saying that like for example...if we dont like a certain show like BIG BROTHER (crappiest reality show eva) then the onli way to send a msg is not to watch it or give it the recognition it yearns.....
in this case......i wud say make ur voice known......and bring it up over and over again BUT not on this forum.........in ur country
  • Dear Vassilios,

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with your attitude towards pornography; indeed, if it were more widely shared then there would not be this problem.

Nor is anyone (I think) saying that there is nothing that can be done; simply that there are limits in the west. This is Kerestina's point, and there is no getting away from it.

In the UK many of us have petitioned and worked through political means to try to ensure that the laws do not become too liberal; but if the Government wishes to make 'gay partnerships' legal and parliament agrees, that's the law. If the Government will make so-called 'Men's Magazines' 'top shelf' only, that is good, but not as good as banning them; but this last they cannot do under European law.

We can try to campaign for tougher laws, but even if we got them, that would not be total victory. Now it is true that some people in this society get so upset that they blow themselves and other people up; but we are not those kind of people. We are called to the harder road of loving our enemies and turning the other cheek; even as we hate the sin, we are called to love the sinner.

So yes, by all means petition the bishops and politicians, but there are limits to what they will do. There are none to what the love of God can do. Your passion is great - and I respect it; it is simply, I guess, that having had some experience of trying to do something about this sort of thing, I am aware of the limits of political action in this society.

The sad fact is that many men buy porn; if they stopped, so would the porn.

    In Christ,

    John

If there are lawyers in this forum, then this topic will be very interesting.

Kerestina - look: IM NOT, for the 10000000000000000th time, suggesting we ban porn, or sexually explicit music. Im saying that such material HAS NO RIGHT to be published PUBLICLY.

We need to be clear here: When i say "publicly" i mean, in the street, a newsagent's shop window is PUBLIC, a poster in a metro station is "public" . TV is not really public. Its a choice. Either I can turn on the TV or turn it off. The internet is not public.. u can filter all material now before it gets to u.
Sexually explicity material being played in stores IS PUBLIC exposure. You're standing in the middle of a pharmacy, and all of a sudden u hear the rap music with rapper talking about what his sexual desires are??? PUBLICLY!????

This is forcing yourself on others. I don't have to go and buy a CD, but by playing such music publicly, its as if they forced me to listen to it!!!! AGAINST MY WILL!!!

If a good lawyer was here, they could argue that this has a case that could in fact change current advertising legislation, and legislation pertaining to what kind of music can be played in department/drug stores. There HAVE to be limits.
  • NO QT... u look..dont talk to me wif such in impatience..........you need to stop yapping and start being more proactive

This is a forum of Coptic Christians. If there were lawyers here, then this would be very proactive. I'd love to know what they suggest???

Well... i could just speak to Anba ANgelos about this and see if he can create an online petition on his website that he can present to the Stevenage MP to change current legislation that allows for the public exposure of pornographic material - Audio/Visual.

  • Qt...
I wasn't shouting at you. and if you think that then... I apologize!

I see this.... nudity and Pornography is bothering you much......
    I have a solution....
Either voice your opinion like Krestina said.... or you could buy bunch of clothes and pass 'em out to the ppl who are naked on the streets....
COncerning the images you can buy some paint and a paint brush.... and just paint over the parts where you don't like to see... (HEY? it is a free country isn't?, or is free country for porn stuff???) Or..... you can instead having to look at it in public... you can look at it private..!!! which is more PRIVATE than public!!!! or .... You can move to another country..... or you can move back to egypt, and hey?... EGypt is very x a billion strict about all of that porno stuff... you can actualy walk in the street without being forced to look at any sex images....
  • dear QT,
from what i see so far is that your arguing about porn. Just like kerestina said, you should voice your opinion. you shouldnt be arguing that it is wrong to be shown in public, but try to do somthing.

And what did you mean by that "your not saying they should prohibit it"? Isn't that what your wanting?
  • [quote author=QT_PA_2T link=topic=4615.msg73414#msg73414 date=1182933600]

Im not arguing with ANYONE. Its mira (bentbabayasoo3) and kerestina that seem to think that Im trying to prohibit porn. NOT AT ALL.

you know i agreed to refrain from posting on this thread BUT i dont appreciate ppl putting words in my mouth!!!!....
when did i say that i think you wish to remove all porn or PROHIBIT it??? read my posts carefully word by word and IN context b4 attempting to use me as an example for your frustration and impatience

    Hi Kerestina,
So, you thought i was putting words in your mouth? Oh, Im sorry, i wonder what though could have given me that impression that you disagreed that it was not a problem and a social norm? Saying that its a social norm means does give the impression that there seems to be shortsightedness with the issue at hand.

    Oh well... my fault,

its beyond me how you interpreted my comment...firstly im (apparently) implying that you want porn prohibited and now i disagree porn is a problem??? what the hek???
shall i explain myself for pppl that did not understand???ok@!!!!
social norm= accepted by society as acceptable standards
    porn= consensus that its disturbing
what i disagree with? i disagree that you should solely rely on the law to execute justice and change
i did state that the law cannot remove porn but i did not mention that YOU were aiming for such a outcome....in fact if u wish to get specific i was being sarcastic....porn will exist whether u like it or not......its how u deal with it that counts??? THAT was the msg i was trying to portray
anyways im sik of this thread n im sik of u
    so GOOD BYE
  • HOw can we sign a petetion?
We don't even live in paris/london.... How can we (as in people on tasbeha) argue for something in a country that most don't live there???
Get your neighbors to sign, your friends at work.... any one walking down the street!
I realy doubt you can change that because that is what they grew up on, they think that is normal...!!!!! Basically You can't change society!
I still think... that it is in your hands to ignore what you see....! Pretend it is not there.  I don't think it is that hard, Sama3n el kharaz.. just because a woman was taking her shoe off.. He poked his eye out! because it was going to make him sin!

Another example.... Abona one time while he was with me, there was this woman running... and she had on this sports bra and short shorts.... He didn't turn his head and stared! He didn't even look at her twice.. because i watched carefully his expressions and to him she wasn't even there... she was like a tree like any tree we drive pass it.

    pray for me,

What do u do if you are in a department store and all of a sudden they decide to play some rap music and the lyrics are all sexually explicit?? What can u do?

1st) I don't listen to rap, I don't like it, and i don't understand not one word. Except for Eminem.
2nd) Rap gives me a headache.
3rd) When I shop, I focus on what I am buying and What I want to buy, not on what is going on around me.
4th) The state I live in in U.S. doesn't play Rap music in stores... because of the kids, and Parents would complain, and they'd run out of business!

Still..... For somebody to petition... they should have lived thourgh that experince for them not to like it and vote against it.  WHy won't you just send an article to the news paper, explain your Point of View, or Have them Interveiw you.

To them, They think you are ignorant because you original ethnicity is not french.  Pretty much, this is their county, their tradition, their culture, this is how they got used to for centuries, they like it.  The only people who won't like it are those who are immigrating from one diferent country to another, from one different society to an opposite one.  I am sure you have lived in paris all of your life... How come you start to question their society now?

    bentBABAyasooa`
  • for the petition-- you can make an email, and let people sign it there,it doesnt have to be pen written. Start an email. i revieved an email with a petition that says they are making a porn movie and is again Christ, and they needed to get 500 signatures and so far they have 400  i think. and they were bringing this movie to Europe but because of the petition it has been banned, that is another idea....
  • for rap music, are you thinking of a petition to prohibit it in public stores? or prohibit rap music with sexual explicit lyrics period..?
  • I think that these things are not as bad as the sins I commit, so I do not judge as such to its exhibition. But it is a great concern when it is flamboyantly broadcast to the public, which vary in their response to such. There should be much more sensitivity to these things.
  • yea, that is correct, i remember when i was a little kid, i used to hear people say it and i used to repeat it not knowing what it meant, so i agree with you in that...
  • Dear QT,

The problem with prohibition in the west is that even if you can get those spineless things called parliaments to pass such laws, the stuff does not go away - alas.

I quite agree with you about its effects, and about the offence it causes. I think Americans don't quite realise how overt such advertising is in this country and in France; the Puritan inheritance there has kept things a little less indecent, at least in most advertising.

It is a real problem, and all one can really do is to try to ensure that one does nothing to give it any encouragement - and lobby your MP or Deputy.

    In Christ,

    Anglian
