Scripture Memorising

Do you think it will be a good idea for different people to post a passage from the bible each day which everyone who wants to can memorise ?

So we can help each other ? maybe to persist ? in memorising a part from the bible each day... and maybe some people can share their meditations here...

By ourselves maybe we can choose to memorise more if we want depending on our own need maybe... but at least we can help each other maybe to memorise 1 passage from the bible each day...

Or do you think its a bad idea?

  • Proverbs 1:7 (King James Version)

7The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

    Maybe it should be longer?
I do not know if I will get my bible reading done today if I try to memorise something big.. or anyday... hmm ?

Maybe these verses are relevant to me? (If I do not do what I want to do?)

    Luke 14:29-30
29Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

30Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

So if you want to memorise more I think this would be a good part from the gospel to memorise...

    Luke 14:25-35 (King James Version)

25And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,

26If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

27And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

28For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

29Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

30Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

31Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

32Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

33So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

34Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

35It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

But Im not sure if I will memorise it today..

YOU CAN MEMORISE FROM THE NKJV IF YOU WANT
  • i think it should be a small verse/meditation so ppl wont be too lazy to read

hey take a look at this 1:

[shadow=red, left]Strange that 20£ seems a really large amount of money when you give it in the church but it's such a small value if you are going shopping, isn't it strange??[/shadow]

Isn't it strange that 2 hours a week is so boring and feels too long when you sit in church at mass but it goes too fast watching an exciting movie..isn't it strange???

Isn't it strange that we find it too hard to find vocabulary when bowing to pray while it's too easy for us talking with those whom we love..isn't it strange?

Isn't it strange that we feel so bored reading one chapter of the bible while we find reading a story book or a magazine..(the easiest way about how to win money) soo interesting isn't it strange??

Isn't it strange how we believe every single thing that comes in tv news and those written in magazines while we ask a lot and strongly argue for no point about things concerning God in the Holy Bible..isn't it strange??

Isn't it strange and amazing that we want to reach, get and live in God's heaven in peace while we don't want or enjoy talking about the way to get to it..isn't it strange??

Isn't it strange how fast we send or forward a nice joke or a nice picture over the internet while we hesitate loads of times before sending an email about God's salvation...?

[glow=red,2,300]Isn't it soo strange but it's true and real. [/glow]
  • Can you choose to meditate on any verse at will sometimes? will it benefit much? do you want to think about just this one verse the whole day?

How do you know God wants you to meditate on this verse? with long passages there is more verses and you are more likely to meditate on something useful and meditate longer... am I maybe right?

  • what do you mean? ???
  • I dont know if im answering your question fully maybe...
With more verses there is more likability (if thats a word) maybe that one of these verses God wants you to meditate on maybe or more likeability you will benefit maybe or something..
When I use you I mean maybe me, you and others.. people?

I think these two verses from Psalm 18 are good to memorise maybe and to repeat in your mind maybe when you are tempted to sin.. if you sin maybe the sorrows of sheol (OR HELL?) will take hold of you or something
    Psalm 18:4-5

    you can read them from

  • Memorise this today maybe..

1 John 2:17 (King James Version)

17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

    From
    http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1 john 2:17;&version=9;

If you have a NKJV bible you can memorise the words of this verse from that if you want..

  • I think we shoud memorize this:

I can do all things through Christ who strenghens me.
    it helps me a lot
  • thanks for that.. but which book, chapter, and verse in the bible is that from or something similar?
  • I think it will be a great idea but do not let the verse be too long.....so it will be easier for people to remember it.

    i will start with that one...Matthew 10:42

" And who ever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward."

We should also live whatever verse that we read for a whole day by not only remembering it but feeling what it meant and how it reflect our lives

Pray that God may help us
  • jesuskingofkings,
