Connection?

edited December 1969 in Coptic Orthodox Church
Is there a connection between Coptic church and Serbian Orthodox church? Forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question, because I'm not well educated in the histories of these two churches. I recently discovered that they had the very same cross. Can anyone explain this please? Or do they just share the same cross, but no connections? An explanation would be appreciated.

  • The Serbian Orthodox Church is a Chalcedonian or Eastern Orthodox Church, whilst the Coptic Orthodox Church is a non-Chalcedonian or Oriental Orthodox Church.

They are therefore part of two respective Communions which are not in communion with the other, and have not been so ever since the fifth century split.

Recent dialogues have revealed that we do indeed share the same Orthodox faith, however such discoveries have only been recent, and i believe it will take a while before such thinking sinks in universally amongst our churches, and the mindset of our laymen and clergy.
  • And why do they share the same cross?
  • Anyone know?
