  • if u look at the rest of the chapter it becomes clear:

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

obviouslyl the first time the Holy Spirit came upon them was a kind of enlightment or grace to make them convert, as it said they were "astonished". Now that great effect of St Peter's words was the work of this coming of the Holy Spirit. Then they were baptized to receive the Holy spirit as the rest of the people who were baptized.
The thing that i wonder here is the following: didnt the Holy Spirit come upon people through laying of the hands. Baptism was never for receiving the Holy Spirit was it? It was the laying of the hands, and later replaced by the Holy Myroun. Anyone? ???
  • Excellent answer Hos Erof,

The Holy Baptism is to receive the Salvation of Our Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross. We can not have salvation without baptism, baptism is essential for salvation, and this is the major difference between Protestants in generals and the other Apostolic Churches. Protestants do not believe that baptism is essential for salvation, just performed as a mean to be part or member of the church.

  • Salvation is made available through the redemptive death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. In order to share in this salvation we must share in the death and resurrection with the Lord Jesus Christ. St Paul in his letter to the Romans said “ Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:3-4

After we received the salvation, we become eligible to obtain the Holy Spirit through the Holy Myroon and to become the dwelling of the Holy Spirit.

“But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all know.” 1 John 2:20
“but the anointing which you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that any one should teach you; as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie, just as it has taught you, abide in him.” 1 John 2:27
