God's Wings

edited December 1969 in Faith Issues
Hey guys,
I found this really nice story online and I thought u guys might like it :)

An article in National Geographic several years ago provided a penetrating picture of God's wings...

After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick.

When he struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother's wings.

The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies.

When the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body, the mother had remained steadfast. Because she had been willing to die, those under the cover of her wings would live.

"He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge" (Psalm 91:4)

Being loved this much should make a difference in your life. Remember the One who loves you and then, be different because of it.

God Bless

  • I found this too... hope you enjoy it!

When you are tired and discouraged from fruitless efforts... God knows how hard you have tried.

When you've cried so long and your heart is in anguish... God has counted your tears.

If you feel that your life is on hold and time has passed you by ... God is waiting with you.

When you're lonely and your friends are too busy even for a phone call... God is by your side.

When you think you've tried everything and don't know where to turn... God has a solution.

When nothing makes sense and you are confused or frustrated... God has the answer.

If suddenly your outlook is brighter and you find traces of hope ... God has whispered to you.

When things are going well and you have much to be thankful for... God has blessed you.

When something joyful happens and you are filled with awe... God has smiled upon you.

When you have a purpose to fulfill and a dream to follow... God has opened your eyes and called you by name.

Remember that wherever you are or whatever you are facing... GOD KNOWS.
  • The very tender and heart-warming message in that story reminds me of the profound words that Our Lord pronounced about His People and Jerusalem specifically:

"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how many times I yearned to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were unwilling."

Our Master is so tender and sweet, yet you can feel His hurt for being rejected. Yet He was still willing to die on the Holy Cross.

  • awwwww what a cute story about the bird!!

  • Actually, the admonition of Jerusalem is found in the Gospels of St. Matthew and St. Luke.

    Lk 13:34-35
