Related to a thesis topic I am pursuing in my graduate studies, I would like to know the best/most prototypical hymns to illustrate the pronunciation differences between GB and OB. Links to their texts in Coptic, and audio if available (in either pronunciation), would also be useful and appreciated (to justify the inclusion of a given hymn in the corpus from which the data will be drawn).

in the hymn of piwik (The bread of Life), there's this specific part that is repeated twice.
It says `mpefcwma@ nem pef`cnof ettai`yout.

The english translation says: His Body and His precious Blood.
Can you tell from the coptic whether the word ettai`yout applies to `cnof or both `cnof and cwma.

From what I understood et here is a relative converter, which is used to make an adjective from a qualititive verb (in this case: "to honor" become "honored").
In the case of a definite article et is used, but if there's a indefinite article, you use ef-ec-eu depending on whether its masculine/feminine/plural. So in the case of an indefinite article, you can differentiate whether there's a plural involved or a singular.
Yet, in my example, there is a possesive pronoun (i assume the rule of the definite article goes here)...so how can you know whether the adjective is used to define one or more nouns (ie: is it the Precious Body and Blood or the Body and the precioius Blood??).

The sad thing about all this is, we are trying to pronounce something in a language that is not even ours, that is no longer used. Zefte Pantees, like O Kerios Metasou, is old Greek. Maybe some Greek brightspark may understand it who knows Ancient Greek, but it saddens me deeply that these beautiful melodies that we have are stuck in a language that's foreign to everyone alive.

I think when the words of any song/hymn penetrate your heart then you will enjoy them more. Like this, with the way things are, all that is penetrating your heart is the melody as the meaning is SO fixed in the original language, I doubt that translating it will even produce an accurate result. A prime example is indeed Agios Icteen.

Aren't there any musical geniuses here that can do a translation job for us??

The purpose of this thread is for everyone to post hymns in English that were originally in Coptic/Arabic/Greek that are just as beautiful (if not more beautiful) than the original hymn.

I was wondering if anyone who ordered the Rites and Hymns of the Glorification Hymns for CIA has different pronunciation of the words for Dhevte Pandees or the same pronunciation as the recording for HCOC. I'm reviewing this hymn with HCOC and they changed a lot of the words and I don't see any text that supports their change. That is why I'm wondering if CIA's recording has the same pronunciation of the words as HCOC's!
