Hi, I just came across a thread where Iqbal wrote on this subject and said:

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not a sin amongst other sins. It refers to the unrepentent pursuit of ANY sin--it is not a type of sin, it is a method of dealing with sin. Someone who is disposed towards same-sex attraction, yet who struggles with the Grace of God to resist homosexual lusts and acts in every shape and form that such lusts and acts may be manifest is not committing blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

So, let's say if someone commits the same sin EVERY day - is that blaspheming against the Holy Spirit?

Now I know the Holy Spirit was not given until Christ gave it after His death (and maybe after some time.. wasn't it at pentecost?).. but why then did Jesus say receive the Holy Spirit (before He died I think).. those sins you forgive are forgiven ? was it then possible for people living when Christ was alive to live by His commandments .. such as do not even have lustful thoughts? I think before Christ died people were able to live very much righteously such as righteous people in the Old Testament.. Enoch, Elijah and such as St John the Baptist and Sinless Saint Mary.. what then was the benefit of the Holy Spirit.. the Comforter.. Did they really have no comfort before? was the benefit just speaking in tongues? actually the Holy Spirit was the helper .. it made the disciples bold and not afraid to face death.. but how come some prophets were not afraid to face death.. didn't they also have the helper the Holy Spirit.. did the prophets not feel pain at all?

and why did Christ say casting out demons can come out by nothing but fasting and praying yet He gave the twelve disciples authority to cast out demons and heal all kinds of sickness and diseases even while He was alive.. but He said can the friends fast while the bridegroom is with them? they will fast when the bridegroom is taken away from them (when He dies).. did He mean only that they will not fast alot like the disciples of John and the Pharisees but not that they will not fast at all and maybe alot but not as much as the disciples of John and the Pharisees?

2 Corinthians 6:14 which says "14Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?(ESV)."

Now obviously we are not supposed to completely cut ourselves off from non-believers, so the question is to what extent does this command carry?

How do others here interpret this?

Hello,

Can someone help answer these.

God created Adam and Eve. Their offspring "married" one another. Brother marrying sister etc... and having kids.

Why then did God make it a sin to marry your siblings afterwards??? It means God's opinion has changed??

Secondly, there were symbols of baptism in the Bible that the Israelites went through (eg. circumcision, crossing the red sea etc) -but what good are symbols?? What was the point in having "symbolic" sacrements??? What good is that? Its not the real deal!?? Is it?

The book of Leviticus (and similiar books) are all "do's and don'ts" ) - these books basically form the core of the Jewish TORA. Their contents shows a discontinuity in God's opinion:

For example, someone who sins a certain sin should be put to death. This is now against His will. We are called NOT to judge anyone. Yet, it was His commandment that we do judge before, and even execute/put to death murderers, idolaterers and adulterers??

God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because He couldnt bear their sins (they were into homosexuality etc...). Why then does He leave us in our current state where Homosexuals can not only be married, but even ordained as Bishops in some CHurches??? Why Change so ??? Surely, it would be fair to treat everyone equally??!

If the answer is because His Mercy endures forever, then why did it not endure for the Sodomites?? If they failed to repent, and He destroyed them for this reason, then OK. But not only have we become nations of adulterers, and idol worshippers, we've legalised it. Everything that appears to be Sacred and Holy to the Lord; the exact opposite is now legalised and encouraged: Polygamy, homosexuality, fornication, etc.

Can someone here enlighten me?
THanks,

Hey Doubting Thomas, this is for u bud :-)

((
I also believe that it is a good thing to question God. There is a Jewish saying that says, "You can either be for God or against God, but not without God." As we wrestle with God, and question God, we enter into dialog and even into a more mature relationship with God. By holding God accountable and finding that God always holds up with flying colors, we see how God calls us into relationship where we are. God does not expect us to be saints, but rather finds us where we are and loves us where we are. God then does his amazing work of working in our very souls, and we are then called to God, by God, for God.
))

((
hey Taylor,
if am not mistaken this is my first reply for this post...am not going to write much since everything i would ask or say was already said.
just wanted to ask one question thoo. about what u said:

Quote from: desertnurse on Today at 21:51:16
God does not expect us to be saints, but rather finds us where we are and loves us where we are.

yes God doesn't expect us to be saints but doesn't He love us to be with Him as He paid our dues for us?!!!
also of course He loves us....that's why He saved us.....but wouldn't only be right to be with Him where He is instead of where we are?!!!
))

((
Excellent point!!!

I think that in that light I might elaborate: God finds us where we are. That is not to say that we have no where else to go. We then begin to grow. It is a statement of how God comes to us. In Protestant Christianity, there is a deep feeling of God doing all the work. Even our faith is a gift from God. Our faith is not our work, but a gift from God and therefore God's work. God then finds the sinner where the sinner is and calls, "Come, follow me." It is at this point that many of us fall into relationship and communion with God. There is also a feeling that God allows us to suffer but suffers with the sufferer.
))

Please add your thoughts!!

Taylor

In the spiritual life it has many elements:

    * Bearing tribulations, without grumbling
      Some may complain, grumble, cry, or weep whenever they fall in tribulations. But St James the Apostle says, "My brethren count it all joy when you fall into various trials" (James 1:2). Bearing tribulations is an aspect of entering by the narrow gate, which leads to various virtues and rejoicing in the Lord. For the Lord in such cases provides a solution for all our tribulations and gives us a blessing and a crown.
      How beautiful are the words of St Paul the Apostle, "God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it" (1Cor 10:13).

"

Does this mean we can not complain to God that some trials are hard and that we are weak and we need help..
Whats wrong with that?

I also want to ask what did the LORD mean when He said to lay up treasures in heaven where moth does not destory and thieves do not steal... I know it means to do good deeds... but is it true no thief can still what you have done? I do not think it is true .. for some people were righteous a lot of their life and were wicked at the end and their former good deeds will not get them to heaven..

I also want to ask what did the LORD mean when He said the master said to the wicked and lazy servant.. you should have at least deposited my money to the bankers so that I should receive back my own with interest?

I also want to know if some people got away with not doing good deeds... if they were saved just by humility.. how many good deeds do we need to do.. why are there so few who will be saved?

There was the story (?) about the monk (in the sayings of the fathers or desert fathers maybe)who was not afraid of death and the other monks said to him.. how come you are not afraid of death .. we all know you were not faithful in your duties or something.. or maybe that he did not labour much or something.. and he said all his life (Im not sure if he said all his life or since he became a monk or something else) he has tried to obey Jesus' teaching "judge not that you be not judged" and he depends on that.. But I guess maybe I have more of a problem with judging then I think..

Growing up in a Coptic Orthodox enviroment, and going to a COC, I was taught that the Holy Body and Blood of the Lord, should be delivered by the priest directly into the mouth of the receiver.
I fully agree with this, but recently I was on a British Orthodox (a member of our Holy Church, were their Metropolitan is a full member of the Holy Synod) website were I read some text, that stated that the priests deliver the Holy Body to the Reciever in their hands (as the Roman Catholic Church) based on the words of Abba Cyril of Jeruslem, who stated that the Holy Body should be recieved with the hands forming a "throne."

Is it just me or does this bother anyone else (specaily the fact that the BOC is under our Church's Supervision), I mean if I were to go pray in a British Orthodox Church, I dont think I'd let the Priest place it in my hand?

Any opinons, remarks, or explanations?

God Bless

this question just popped up in my head....

Why do we STILL have Adam and Eve's sin in us though our parents were baptized and got us. Would'nt we only have the sin if they werent baptized? Because when they are baptized,they get rid of that sin, and later in life we, the children, stil have the sin... its either i forgot the answer to this question or i never knew. Any ideas?
