If so, how do you talk to them? Do you do this in Egypt, or only in countries where it is legal to proselytize?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, since this has come up lately for me.

Peace

I should know the answer to this maybe but I am confused..

I must say I intend in no way to justify the wicked sin of adultery... it will make me mad if someone reads this and dwells on bad thoughts and is convinced on something bad .. I think many have read other of my posts out of curiousity and never came again to read the answers...maybe some were negatively affected..

Is it true that sometimes people marry the wrong person.. maybe they are not compatible emotionally or intellectually.. or they did not even like the person's looks.. or their personality does not match

Ofcourse God does not allow divorce

So how will that person ever learn to love their spouse... I think they should still be able to love as if the spouse is their friend or sibling.

and what if a spouse does not want to have sex with the partner and finds it disgusting since their is no sexual attraction.. or what if there is sexual attraction but no love and not emotional and intellectual compatibility.. would sex then be dirty?

In the sacrament of matrimony the two become one flesh.. I don't understand this completely if at all.. Will Christ make sure every marriage is blessed even if there was no emotional or intellectual compatibility?

I think maybe the couple would have to bear as their punishment not being able to divorce since they did not pick wisely?
But I think Jacob perhaps married Rachel just because of her physically beauty.. maybe they were not compatible intellectually..

Since the couple is not compatible would it be a sin if a spouse would rather be with someone else but still keeps their mind free from sexual sin? Or is there no such thing as being incompatible or God can make them compatible.. I know marriage is about commitment and not all about physical beauty.. there should be love even in old age.. but they might still be emotionally or intellectually compatible......

ohhhhh but do you think emotional and intellectual compatibility is something that can be changed if a person is willing to change? but what if a spouse gets a stroke (they might have intellectual compatibility) or something.. the husband or wife must still be faithful ofcourse as they promised they would in church when they were getting married.. but then what if the husband or wife would enjoy spending more time with some other person of the opposite sex who cares for them.. that would be selfish wouldn't it? but then should you completely avoid speaking to the opposite sex?

Perhaps people should concentrate more on loving God and depending on Him to fill their emotional needs.. but God called us to serve.. Im confused.. there is something I have not said it seems..

is it wrong for a spouse to think another person makes them feel more special and it is impossible for their spouse to make them feel the same.. is it really true.. maybe it is not impossible but God can make the spouse feel they are special... maybe people should only depend on God to make them feel special..

I am not married but I think I have to think about this..

Contradiction within the deutrocanonical book of Tobit

In the deutrocanonical book of Tobit, there seems to be a rather lavish contradiction. Namely, in the book the Angel Raphael is presented as a liar when he says "I am an Israelite. I am Azaria, son of the great Ananias: TOB 5:18. He also said, "we belong to the sons of Naphtali who are the captives in Nineveh" TOB 7:3.
Now I understand that angels in the past have appeared as humans, as in the case of Abraham, Daniel and Joshua.

Someone suggested that the part where the Angel Raphael says "I am Azaria, son of Annanias.." is meant to mean 'I am the power of God from the passion of God' which is an angelic attribute.

My question is, how could he make such a deduction, when clearly in the book of tobit the angel DOES NOT SAY "I am the power of God".

Otherwise, how is "I am Azaria, son of Annanias.." meant to mean 'I am the power of God from the passion of God' ?

If these questions are not answered, it leaves the the contradiction still open to answering, namely, why is the angel depicted as a liar?

Regards,
Doogie

All the things below are said about the virgin saint mary... who understands all of this? why is the congregation expected to say all these things without understanding it... Is it bad to do that? I sang most of it in church which I normally would not but I trust the church would know what its doing right?

Are all these things really true about Saint Mary? I see nothing wrong with honouring Gods saints but it must be true honour right? and make sure it does not exceed honouring God...

For truly it is: Meet and right: To praise the True God : The Lord who dwells in Heaven.

His Name is beautiful and blessed: In the mouths of His saints: This is God the Father: The Son and the Holy Spirit.

We glorify the pure: Mary the Theotokos: The Second Tabernacle: The True Treasure.

We utter crying out: With great charm saying: Hail to you O Virgin: The Lord is with you.

Hail to you O Virgin: The salvation of Adam and Eve: Hail ...: The joy of the ages.

(Okay I understand this.. without Saint Mary Jesus would not have come and adam and eve would not have been forgiven and saved)

Hail ... : The Joy of righteous Abel

(why?)

: Hail ... : Exalted above the
Temple.

(true but shouldn't this be said of God?)

Hail ... : The ark of Noah

(how come? maybe because he who asks her intercession will be safe as if in an ark? what do you think is meant?)

: Hail ... : To the last breath.

(is that really so important to hail her to the last breath? wouldn't it be wasting time when you can praise God and pray to Him to help your heart to change?)

Hail … : The Grace of Our father Abraham

(what do you mean?)

: Hail … : The faithful Advocate.

(okay simple.. she is an intercessor right?)

Hail ... : The Redemption of Saint Isaac

(why did he in particular need redemption? okay I think I know maybe.. because God said I will provide the lamb or ram or whatever (hope that whatever is not rude) .. instead of isaac being sacrificed Jesus would be and He would never have been born without Saint Mary...... but wouldn't those words apply better to Jesus? )

: Hail ... : The Mother of the Holy.

(obvious)

Hail ... : The joy of our father Jacob

(how come? how do we know he knew about Saint Mary and not Just the Messiah would come from his son Judahs line?
IS EGYPT AN ISLAMIC STATE?

Salaam all,

From my understanding most copts view and judge egypt as a state that represents islam. This understanding is incorrect as Egypt is far from an islamic state like every other state that is labelled an islamic state from Saudi to Pakistan or Iran.

Currently there is a crusade taking place against Islam in the west with regards to integrating muslims into their societies, to the cruel and inhumane war that is taking place across the muslim lands from Palestine to Iraq and from Chechneya to Kashmir.

I think it is important to understand this crusade within a context which is that muslims have an alternative value system and method of running their societies which is deemed to be a threat to the west and their values of freedom and democracy.

Because of this alternative system that Islam posses the west has set out to counter this threat by taking their values of freedom and democracy into the "Greater Middle East".

With regards to Egypt it as a important role to play. As we have witnessed from history Egypt was one of the first countries to accept Israel as a legitimate state which contradicts Islam as this land belongs to the Muslims of Palestine and those that reside there before the Israeli's with the political backing of the British invaded.

Point being that Egypt alongside other muslim countries is working alongside the west to ensure that Islam and muslims don't represent a politcal force as this would be a threat to western interests in the Middle East. Because if there were to be a truely Islamic country in the Middle East and the world the interests of the western nations would be in jeopardy.

So the actions of Egypt with it be internally or externally are not Islamic in any form. The Prophet Mohammed (saw) said that those that hurt a non muslim under an Islamic state or damage their places of worship hurts me and the one that hurts me hurts allah.

From LIFE OF FAITH BY H. H. POPE SHENOUDA III... A great book

http://www.stmaryandstjoseph.org/Texts/Spirituals/faith.pdf

"No doubt, the simple believer who treasures up his faith in
himself, above the level of investigation, is stronger in faith than
some theologians who acquire their faith from books. They
think they have faith. It may be that faith that can be easily
shaken by the opposite intellectual thoughts."

Page 87 of .pdf file

I recommend this book to everyone.. Hope I end up reading more from it

So what faith is H.H talking about if not intellectual faith? musn't we have intellectual faith.. or atleast faith that comes from the heart which is supported by thoughts coming from your heart about Jesus Christ?

hey everybody, i thought this story was really nice so i posted it

A girl went to a party and she ended up staying longer than planned, and had to walk home alone. She wasn't afraid because it was a small town and she lived only a few blocks away. As she walked along under the tall elm trees, Diane asked God to keep her safe from harm and danger. When she reached the alley, which was a short cut to her house, she decided to take it. However, halfway down the alley she noticed a man standing at the end as though he were waiting for her. She became uneasy and began to pray, asking for God's protection. Instantly a comforting feeling of quietness and security wrapped round her, she felt as though someone was walking with her. When she reached the end of the alley, she walked right past the man and arrived home safely. The following day, she read in the newspaper that a young girl had been raped in the same alley just twenty minutes after she had been there. Feeling overwhelmed by this tragedy and the fact that it could have been her, she began to weep. Thanking the Lord for her safety and to help this young woman, she decided to go to the police station. She felt she could recognize the man, so she told them her story. The police asked her if she would be willing to look at a lineup to see if she could identify him. She agreed and immediately pointed out the man she had seen in the alley the night before. When the man was told he had been identified,
he immediately broke down and confessed. The officer thanked Diane for her bravery and asked if there was anything they could do for her. She asked if they would ask the man one question.
Diane was curious as to why he had not attacked her. When the policeman asked him, he answered, "Because she wasn't alone. She had two tall men walking on either side of her."

Do Orthodox believe when they take Holy Communion the flesh of Jesus suffers pain when we eat Him? Is the body dead when we eat Him? but isn't His body alive now in heaven?

Why does Eating Christs body and blood give life to a person? do we eat the Divinity of Christ as well since it is not separated from His humanity? Do we have life because we partake of His body which is united to His divinity? that kinda makes sense to me

I want to ask how can a person rid himself of doubt and have childlike faith till they die? what if I pray lead me not into temptation and I still get doubts.. as if God is letting the devil tempt me

hey guys, i think ive asked this question before but i just really wanna get more info on it.. its about our communion and how we out of all other branches of christianity beleive that the communion without a doubt actually become the real body and blood of Jesus Christ.. So here are my questions, why MUST we take communion? If when we confess our sins are already forgiven, why than must we take communion? My second question is, why do we believe it really is the body and blood of christ and not just a symbol, after all Jesus did say "do this in REMEMBERANCE of me", third of all, where in the bible does is say that the communion actually converts to body and blood and that we must take this.

Thanx for your time everyone.
Hi, I attended a prayer meeting where at the end, everyone started praying. Then they sang a song to the Holy Spirit "Come Spirit of Truth, Come Holy Spirit, Spirit of Fire, Inflame us..." then once they say "inflame us" - they all start speaking in tongues... like "shahhallalrrai aiai ai ooooOOOooooOOoo AIAIAIAI shalaIII i. I. I. I. oooooo..... I I shahalalallalalalalalla frai Frai I I I Fri"

I couldnt really concentrate on praying, and i ended up praying for God to make the girl next to me to just stop.

They seem like nice people, but they are convinced that its something holy from God, and a gift of the Holy Spirit.

I thought the gifts of the Holy Spirit were useful? These people are just talking jibberish.

Then , some weirdo started dancing. AHHAHAHA.. that was the funny part. His dance was quite amusing. He started to jump on one foot, then he changed feet. He was hopping on one foot, and then kept on switching feet, whilst all the time raising one hand in the air. It was great. I was really happy for him, but the problem was this: It was in Notre Dame de Paris right in front of the alter. HAHAHHAHA

It looked really weired... i even complained at the end.

So talking jibberish, and dancing in front of the alter are these gifts of the Spirit?? How can we answer such people... if they start praying again in jibberish, I'm gonna just give them a slap around the ear and tell them to just "STOP IT!!". Its really annoying!!!

As we all know, part of the Orthodox Christian tradition is to consecrate to God the first fruits of our labor. In modern terms that would mean you get a job, get your first check, and give it to church in that little box that says "Donations". Now, my question is if you're really consecrating your first check, for example, to God, does it have to go directly to church, or can it go to another charitable deed? There is a family that I know is in desperate need and as I was about to give my first check's worth to church, I thought about giving the money to them somehow (I'm attempting to do it secretly or something, lol). But would that be okay, or is that considered taking God's portion into our own hands? Help would be appreciated. God bless.

I have not played them in a long time

It doesn't seem bad to me as long as I am not addicted to it.. but to just play it from time to time with my brother or cousins whats wrong about it? and as long as I do not take the wrestlers as idols..

I find it fun.. there is a game called royal rumble.. it is really fun.. you have to chuck everyone out of the ring..

its fun playing with friends.. it causes us to laugh and enjoy meeting each other.. and maybe it eases off tension in relationships and lets us talk about personal things..

even toddlers find it fun when their older cousin tickles them or gives them a power bomb as a joke.. for those who know what it is.. but maybe we should not give toddlers power bombs because they could slip and they are fragile and they can suffer a big injury and die

I know acting out the wresling in real life can be dangerous though.. but even doing that in a safe way seems fine too.. as long as you do not do it too often because the devil can tempt us to do things we should not do..

wrestling games are fun because you can do things to your friend's wrestling character that he did not expect and that is funny to one person or both

as long as it does not cause fights between friends.. it seems okay

But I am afraid it will cause me to be more violent to others but maybe it will not...

Some fighting games are funny.. the way they punch or the sounds they make..

How can a person develop a relationship with anyone when they can not do anything together at all? wrestling games seem more personal than soccer or basketball... does someone want to reveal their problems and sadness to some stranger they do not know?
