Hi,

I am extremely curious to understand the following story in the Bible in (1 Kings 20:35-36 NLT)

Meanwhile, the LORD instructed one of the group of prophets to say to another man, "Strike me!" But the man refused to strike the prophet. Then the prophet told him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, a lion will kill you as soon as you leave me." And sure enough, when he had gone, a lion attacked and killed him.

Now, i read the entire story in the Bible... i couldnt believe it.
A few questions now:

a) WHY? Why?! Just why?? I am speechless...

A man refused to strike a prophet and was killed for that? And then why on earth did the prophet asked to be struck for??? What did the man do wrong exactly to deserve to be killed like that.

Thanks

Guys, read this story below, ok, and tell me, IS THIS RIGHT?

Jephthah Burns His Daughter

"At that time the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he went throughout the land of Gilead and Manasseh, including Mizpah in Gilead, and led an army against the Ammonites. And Jephthah made a vow to the LORD. He said, "If you give me victory over the Ammonites, I will give to the LORD the first thing coming out of my house to greet me when I return in triumph. I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering."

"So Jephthah led his army against the Ammonites, and the LORD gave him victory. He thoroughly defeated the Ammonites from Aroer to an area near Minnith – twenty towns – and as far away as Abel-keramim. Thus Israel subdued the Ammonites. When Jephthah returned home to Mizpah, his daughter – his only child – ran out to meet him, playing on a tambourine and dancing for joy. When he saw her, he tore his clothes in anguish. "My daughter!" he cried out. "My heart is breaking! What a tragedy that you came out to greet me. For I have made a vow to the LORD and cannot take it back." And she said, "Father, you have made a promise to the LORD. You must do to me what you have promised, for the LORD has given you a great victory over your enemies, the Ammonites. But first let me go up and roam in the hills and weep with my friends for two months, because I will die a virgin." "You may go," Jephthah said. And he let her go away for two months. She and her friends went into the hills and wept because she would never have children. When she returned home, her father kept his vow, and she died a virgin. So it has become a custom in Israel for young Israelite women to go away for four days each year to lament the fate of Jephthah's daughter." (Judges 11:29-40 NLT)

Questions

1) How could he offer his daughter as a sacrifice?
2) OK, she agreed to be used as a sacrifice, but that's because she was really easy going; but does it make it right?
3) Why couldnt the father go back on his word? He could have said :"The first thing that comes out of my house (A cow, Ox, sheep, dog, cat, anything - NOT DAUGHTER!!).

Hello,

I came across something strange here.

Please check out 1 KINGS 9:26 to 28

1Ki 9:26 And King Solomon built a navy in Ezion-geber, which is beside Eloth, on the lip of the Sea of Reeds, in the land of Edom.
1Ki 9:27  And Hiram sent his servants in the navy, shipmen who knew the sea, with the servants of Solomon;
1Ki 9:28 and they came to Ophir and took gold from there, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it in to King Solomon.

And now look at 2 CHRON 8:16 to 19

2Ch 8:16 And all the work of Solomon was prepared to the day of the foundation of the house of Jehovah, and until its completion. The house of Jehovah was finished.
2Ch 8:17 And Solomon went to Ezion-geber, and to Eloth on the seacoast, in the land of Edom.
2Ch 8:18 And Hiram sent ships to him by the hand of his servants, and servants who knew the sea. And they went with the servants of Solomon to Ophir, and took from there four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and brought it to King Solomon.

The amount of gold given to Solomon does not appear to be the same. There is a difference between 420 talents and 450 talents. For the same story.

What happened? How there be differences if they are the same story!?

Please help.

Thanks

Hi,
What does someone have to do to be saved?

I was having a chat with this protestant guy, who didnt care that i was Orthodox. He only cared that I wasnt saved. I said i was baptised. He said it wasnt baptism that saves me. I said I repented and confessed ALL my sins. He said it wasnt my repentance that saved me. I said I believed in Christ is my saviour. He said i still wasnt saved.

I didnt know what to do to make this guy happy.

I told him perhaps it would be better to leave me alone as an Orthodox?

Anyway, he said he was worried for my salvation as I wasn;t "BORN AGAIN"

I said :"No. I was born again, when I was baptised".
He said "No. But that's your own act. We are not saved by acts, but by God's grace. The fact that your salvation depends on your own action, u are not saved, as we are only saved by God's grace alone".

I said :"Sure..we are saved by God's grace, but we have also a contribution: We should have Holy Communion, repent and confess our sins, have faith etc... our acts".

Nothing I said seemed to make him happy. Nothing.

I told him we were Orthodox and we had the spiritual traditions of our CHurch Fathers. He didnt care much and said :"Its all wrong".

What can I do?
What can I say?
For him to go away
And come back Another day?
I can't speak Spanish, but I want to say "OLAY!"
OK?

If we believe in One God, why do we need to go to the depth of talking about the Trinity.
If the Trinity are the THREE persons of the One God, then why do we worship ALL three persons. Why not only the Father?
