i was wondering if anyone knows are girls allowed to eat the baraka or the "aghape" that gets passed out at the end of the liturgy if they have their period.
i was taught that we are not supposed to but I heard that we can. Did anyone hear it from a bishop or something before???

i heard about Pope Pius Bread.
It is also known as Pope Pius bread. The story is told that an Italian woman who was suffering all her life from illness that she could not even do her house chores. One day her daughter asked to bake her a cake. She refused more than once because she was unable to do it. The daughter insisted so much taht the mother felt she needed to bake that cake. She asked the aid of the Virgin Mary. As soon as she started to prepare the cake, the Virgin Mary appeared and she herself prepared the cake for the woman...

Is the story really true?? or is it hoax? My family recieved a piece of the "dough"

Acts has several accounts on the story of St Paul's conversion.There seem to be some differences between the accounts, as to whether his mates heard the voice of Jesus.

In the first account, his friends hear the voice but see no one:

"As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven.  Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” [i]And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice  but seeing no one.[Acts 9:3-8]"  [/i]

In the second account, his friends see the light but  hear no voice:

“Now it happened, as I journeyed and came near Damascus at about noon, suddenly a great light from heaven shone around me.  And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’  So I answered, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.’

I wanted just to ask for a question it bothers me about the New Testament.

In Mark 6:8 "and He instructed them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a mere staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belt."

Matthew 10:9-10 "Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts, 10or a bag for your journey, or even two tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for the worker is worthy of his support."

Luke 9:1 "And He said to them, "Take nothing for your journey, neither a staff, nor a bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not even have two tunics apiece.

So my question is: Did Jesus actually mention the staff? And why is there this difference?
I think it all matter of what verb they used in Ancient Greek since there are many verbs similar to each other.

I was wondering if anyone here had seen the CTV or AlHAyat footage of Fr. Makari Younan exorcising people with demons and evil spirits?

I was looking at it and then it just occurred to me: What is the probability of all these people with evil spirits living in the same area and going to that Church? I mean, did it occur to anyone to check the drinking water in that area?

How can ONE area so small have so many people with evil spirits/demons? There's more people with evil spirits in Brixton and Streatham and they don't behave that way.

Now it's not mine/nor anyone else's job to judge these people, but for this scenario, let's pretend they do these good deeds not for the sake of God, but say for the sake of being helpful to humanity in general.

-Do we as Christians believe, good deeds can come from sources other than God?
-If they don't necessarily come from God, does this mean that they are useless, since they're not helping us out spiritually?
-Is it wrong in general to feel a wanting to help others, even if the idea is not a result of your meditation on God's commandments?

Many sages have told us to leave the question of who is saved or not to God. Our Saviour told us the Way is narrow and few find it.

It is a horrible and disturbing thought that someone you love might be deserving of hell (by default, because they didn't take the Lord up on His offer of Grace, but remained good people in the humanist sense).

As the prayer says, 'O Giver of Light, who makes the sun shine upon the righteous and the wicked...' Who are the wicked? Are my dear ones living and dead wicked and in what sense?

We know that as Orthodox members we believe, that the bread and wine, infact becomes the Body and Blood of Christ, not a representation/symbol.

My question is:
Upon ingestion of the Body/Blood, do we believe, it returns to a different state as it passes through our body?  or Do we believe it remains as the Body/Blood of  Christ?  If so and i hate to be graphic, but is it excreted?

         What is the importance of the virgin mother of God? Why do we venerate her and ask her intercession?  Did she really remain a virgin? The importance of our mother resonates from the old testament in Is. 7:14 “ Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and His name shall be called Emmanuel.” Before our mother ever existed, God knew He would choose her as His bride to take flesh from a pure virgin. The church calls mary “the mother of all the living”, “mother of the new life” and “the second eve”. When eve disobeyed God she obtained death, not only for her but everyone else to come, and became the mother not of life but of death. St. Mary by contrast by being obiedent, faithful, humble, and pure took the place of eve as Christ took the place of adam, redeeming us all. By this holy mystery, she is not only the mother of God but the mother of all mankind. Eve believed the serpent, Mary believed Gabriel. That which one destroyed by unbelief the other set straight by believing.(St. Irenaeus) Origen makes a very good point about the virgin in saying “Just as sin began with the woman and then reached the man so too the good tidings had their beginning with women.”  “Eve is called the mother of the human race while Mary is called the mother of salvation” writes St. Ambrose.
Why should we ask her intercession, for all the reasons we discussed, she is the chosen vessel of Christ, the bride of Christ, the Mother of Christ, the ever virgin mother of all mankind. She is the mother of us all, for those with mothers, those who have lost mothers, and those who never knew their mother. When we need comfort as a child we run to our mother, we rush to her embrace for comfort, so too should we do this with our mother St. Mary! When a child runs to his mother crying and sad for what they have done, does his father show him more mercy because of the childs mother? We should ask St. Mary for her intercessions, ask your mother to plead with our Father to take mercy on us and forgive us for what we have done. Will God condemn those who His mother embraced? This is another reason why St. Mary is important for our salvation. Luke 1:48 “for, behold from henceforth all generation shall call me blessed.” St. Mary knew her God given role.
Was St. Mary an ever virgin? In Ezk. 44:1-3 we can read, with the interpretation of the Orthodox church, St. Mary’s perpetual virginity when Ezekiel writes: “When he brought back the way of the gate of the outward sanctuary which looked towards the east, it was shut. Then the Lord said to me: This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall pass through it, because the Lord, the God of Israel, has entered by it, therefore it shall be shut. It is for the prince; the prince himself shall sit in it.” The sealed eastern gate is St. Mary, and her perpetual virginity. The Lord alone had entered her womb, and no other, for she was sealed. What are we to think of St. Mary if she were to take another man when she is the bride of Christ?  As St. Basil the Great says “ But it is far more shocking for the bride to become an adulteress, and, dishonoring her union with the bridegroom, to yield herself to unchaste indulgence.” It is inconceivable to think that St. Mary was not a perpetual virgin. For her to take another man would be adultery, would that not be blasphemy against God?  I love you mom!

So is the book of revelations describing paradise or heaven? For the people who dont know the difference, paradise is like the waiting place of the righteous until judgement day when they will go to heaven.

God's stance about revenge is clear, but I can't get it..... do martyrs want to avenge their blood? And how come a great prophet like David is waiting for God to take revenge for God's servents? Is waiting for God's revenge is a sin? Verses are contradicting to me!!!! Any explanations?

I'm just curious to know what the viewpoint of the CoC is concerning assisted suicide where someone is so ill, and in serious pain, that it is best to let them die?

The argument of the consensus for those who are pro-assisted suicide is that we allow horses and cows to be put down if they are in pain, but we allow humans to go on suffering.

I am wondering if you could help me with some bible verses that I could use to convince a christian orthodox girl not to date a non-christian person.  I am worried because she is under 20 years old.  I have been reminding her about her first love to God, when she used to drop everything for her prayers at certain times.  Now she is in love with non-christian person and no personal meetings with God.  I don't want to talk to her father of confession.  I think it is up to her to discuss it or not.]]>
