I kinda have this problem of faith where I think that if a saint or martyr does not mention the Holy Virgin Mary... in their book (life of St. Anthony) or something.... I think they dont venerate her as the Theotokos. I struggle with the fact that St. Anthony never got an apparation by the virgin .... I know that the Holy Theotokos is not God, but I also know that she is greater than all...

Does anybody struggle with the fact that St. Paul the Apostle never mentions the Holy Virgin?

What do you guys think of this.?

If a man chooses to marry a girl who is not a virgin and his father of confession as well as his parents find out. Is there a part in the sacrament that gets changed or reworded due to one of the two parties not being a virgin? The phrase in Arabic i'm referring to is, "ebnel el bekr" If so doesn't this void the seal of confession because now the entire congregation will know one of the two is not a virgin?

Thank you for your input.

Many Hindus (and many western people) say that the Old Testament religion was very corupt with much animal slaughter/offering. Most Hindus, I think, don't practise animal offerings although they may have done that in the past. They say that the animal slaughter/offering reffered to in the Vedas are only to be understood in a spiitual way. They of course admit that some Vedic people ate meat but that's not our discussion right now. I personaly, do beleive that Hinduism may have come from Jews who travelled to India but I don't know. I must admit that vegetarianism was one reason why I had a tough time accepting Chistianity.
My question is: What do you say to the people who don't become Christians because of the animal slaughter/offering in the Bible?

I have a couple of questions about marriage....

I was reading in Deuteronomy a couple of days ago and I came across a passage that said that if a woman was found out to not be a virgin on her wedding day then the people need to take her out of the village and stone her to death.

That was enough to make me shiver.

So, here's my question: Are non-virgins, according to the Orthodox faith, allowed to marry? Why are women who are non-virgins stoned, but men who are non-virgins not?

I may be completely wrong, but I heard (from a side conversation and I think on CTV a while ago) that there is some kind of "test" that girls have to go through before marriage to make "sure" that they are virgins.

Isn't that a bit much? Shouldn't that be only God and that girl's concern? Why would a man not love his wife because she is not a virgin?

So, anyways, I'm very confused...and frightened....

In my church, we have many servants, but I feel as if we just welcome everyone who graduates High School to the service?

Forgive me, but I feel like I am the only servant who actually comes to the liturgy, and cares about church. The girls show up at the end of liturgy, and only 2 of the guys are deacons, and no one else comes to the liturgy! (not to mention no one fasts either) I feel like sometimes they feel like they are forced to serve or they're just doing it because their friends are. I feel like the only reason they serve is to replace their love and attendance in the church. As if they are somehow balancing it out.

I'm sorry to judge, but I'm a very critical person, and my standards and love for the church is just so much different. It really does dissapoint me more than anything to see that God's servants have reached this level of doing the bear minimum to please God?

What should do? Or maybe I should just keep to myself??

Hello everyone,
I hope you are all doing well in Christ. Happy Coptic New year!! :)
I have just completed the two year servants prep program at my church. In a matter of a few weeks, I will begin serving the children in Sunday school against my will more or less. I have accepted the responsibility for the sole purpose of obedience to my father of confession. I view the service as a great blessing but also great burden that I don't feel equipped to handle. I lack the skill of teaching and do not feel capable to conduct a class from the information I learned from Servants prep. However, I have been taught to offer my best and leave God to bless it as He did with the five loaves and two fish. Therefore, to start off on the right foot, I need your help. I know many people here are great servants in their own parish and I would love to learn from you all. What is an ideal servant? How can I build a relationship with the children consisting of a balance of friendship and authority? How can I keep control of the classroom with love? How can I make lessons attractive to grasp their attention? Any tips on how to prepare a lesson? Overall, how can I truly glorify God in this service?
--I would appreciate any advice/ experience about the topic in general. The age range will be around 7-10.

I need all your prayers for the success of this new endeavor so God can bless these children, penetrate their hearts, and keep the spirit of pride away from me.

Thanks for your help! :)

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, One God Amen!

Hello everyone,

There is this one Jehovah witness person in my class and he was telling me that they believe that when you die your soul dies too. According to somewhere in Ezekiel, i think Ezekiel 18:20-20
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."

I know that is completely false because there is immorality of the soul. But i didn't really know how to answer him? And also do we believe that the soul and spirit of a person is the same thing?

Please help me and provide Holy Bible verses!

May God Bless you and be with you in order to answer this question.
Hello folks,

I catogorically reject the idea of evolution and all its bla-bla theory. Period. According to Genesis, God created the universe in 6 days. By studying the geneologies in the Gospel of Matthew and Luke, we can say for certain that the earth is less than 10,000 years old.

Recently , I was watching a captivating science documentary series featuring time-travels,warmholes and distant galaxies. The narrator said, some galaxies are billions of lightyears away from the earth and the reason we see their stars change brightness and move or explode, is because their light has reached us after billions of light years. To my knowledge ,the techniques that Scientists use to measure cosmic distances are generally logical and scientifically sound.

As I said above, I believe the earth is as old as the bible says, but how does one explain the fact that light gets to us from distant stars which are billions of light-years away in a universe which is only thousands of years old? Thanks

Is God to Blame?

Hello everyone,

I think this subject I'm about to raise is quite sensitive. Its sensitive for every Christian and Atheist alike.

Is God in control of our lives? If He is, does he allow bad things to happen? If He does allow them to happen, then is He to blame when they do happen?

Its a sensitive issue because many many people have suffered from things out of their control and felt that God was testing them, or that He had some involvement and could have prevented it.

What can I tell these people?

I answered one person who I've just met, and I know he has suffered greatly in life. I told him that I don't think that God puts on you bad things or wants bad things to happen to you - not at all, but your love for God should not change when bad things do happen.

I said it was like a marriage. If you are married to someone who loves you when you are poor and have no money, then when you are rich and do have something, you won't look at her as if she's just there for the good times.

We could even argue that Why did God allow Adam to eat from the Tree? Why did He create for him Eve who was to badly influence him?

If you look carefully at this story in Genesis, you will see that God chastised Eve for listening to the serpent, however, He chastised Adam for listening to his wife. What does this mean? Well, my 2 cents is that: Even though we are surrounded by people who love us, by those we trust, ultimately, this is a perfect example in putting one's trust in people and one's trust in God. In putting my trust in God MEANS that I should not make concessions on what He tells me. I HAVE TO BELIEVE that His advice (or commandments) IS BETTER FOR ME (i.e. its the BEST for me) than whatever ANYONE else tells me - even my wife, brother, sister or mother.

Indeed we are influenced by many things in life, yet we have to make the decision to trust in God's commandments.

So the question remains, if you have prayed for something (like protection) and something awful happens after you've prayed for it, what should you make of it? Is God testing you?

Punishment of the original sin and salvation on the cross

Something has always made me think was the punishment of the original and salvation on the cross I hope you can answer my question and forgive me for my ignorance. As we know in the Book of Genesis 3 Adam and Eve fell. The punishment God implied were as follows...
16 To the woman He said:
      “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception;
      In pain you shall bring forth children;
      Your desire shall be for your husband,
      And he shall rule over you.”
17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’:
      “ Cursed is the ground for your sake;
      In toil you shall eat of it
      All the days of your life.

18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you,
      And you shall eat the herb of the field.

19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
      Till you return to the ground,
      For out of it you were taken;
      For dust you are,
      And to dust you shall return.”
So to summarize women will have great pain during birth and we have to work for our food, life will be very hard and in the end we will die. Christ came and died for us on the cross and we have salvation. So my question is why is it that, even after Christ died for us, we are still "paying the price." We still have to toil in life, we still have hardship, we still die. Wouldn't salvation mean we do not have to serve the punishment anymore. But yet again as I am typing this popped into my head, death is not necessarily "death" anymore after Christ so the punishment of death I would understand isn't a punishment anymore but what about the toil and hardship?

A few questions:

As one is growing with christ and living with Him day by day in a strong relationship of prayer, he or she becomes more spiritually mature, right? Well is there a stage of doubt, a stage of fear of judgment, a stage of meekness and all of that while growing with christ? Or is everything random? Is there actual stages to tell your growth?

Even better question is how do you know if you are increasing in your spiritualiy or not? And if you are not increasing, does that mean that you are decreasing or stable with your relationship with God?

Well, if I am decreasing how can I catch myself from falling further and grow again?

Please help me with these questions.
Thanks.
