نياحة المعلم إبراهيم الجوهرى ( 25 بشــنس)

في مثل هذا اليوم من سنة 1511 للشهداء الأبرار تنيح الأرخن العظيم والمحسن الكريم المعلم إبراهيم الجوهري نشأ هذا الرجل الكامل والعصامي الكريم في القرن الثامن عشر للميلاد ، من أبوين فقرين متواضعين . وكان اسم والده يوسف جوهري وكانت صناعته الحياكة في بلدة قليوب . وكان أبواه مملوءين نعمة وأيمانا . ربياه التربية الدينية في كتاب البلدة فتعلم الكتابة والحساب وأتقنهما . واشتهر منذ حداثته بنسخ الكتب الدينية وتقديمها إلى الكنائس علي نفقته الخاصة وكان يأتي بما ينسخه من الكتب إلى البابا يوحنا الثامن عشر البطريرك السابع بعد المائة الذي تولي الكرسي من سنة 1486 إلى 1512 للشهداء ( 1769 – 1796 م )

وقد لفتت أنظار هذا البابا كثرة الكتب التي قدمها إبراهيم الجوهري وكثرة ما تكبده من النفقات في نسخها وتجليدها فاستفسر منه عن موارده فكشف له إبراهيم عن حاله فسر البابا عن غيرته وتقواه وقربه إليه وباركه قائلا : " ليرفع الرب اسمك ويبارك عملك وليقم ذكراك إلى الأبد " وتوثقت العلاقات بعد ذلك بينه وبين البابا .

والتحق إبراهيم في بدء أمره بوظيفة كاتب لأحد أمراء المماليك ثم توسط البابا لدي المعلم رزق رئيس الكتاب وقتئذ فأتخذه كاتبا خاصا له واستمر في هذه الوظيفة إلى أخر أيام علي بك الكبير الذي ألحقه بخدمته . ولما تولي محمد بك أبو الذهب مشيخة البلاد اعتزل المعلم رزق رئاسة الديوان وحل محله المعلم إبراهيم فسطع نجمه من هذا الحين . ولما مات أبو الذهب وخلفه في مشيخة البلاد إبراهيم بك تقلد المعلم إبراهيم رئاسة كتاب القطر المصري وهي اسمي الوظائف الحكومية في ذلك العصر وتعادل رتبة رئاسة الوزارة .

ولم يؤثر هذا المنصب العظيم في أخلاق إبراهيم الجوهري بل زاده تواضعا وكرما وإحسانا حتى جذب إليه القلوب ومن فرط حب إبراهيم بك له أولاه ثقته حتى آخر نسمه من حياته فأخلص له الجوهري كل الإخلاص وتزوج المعلم إبراهيم من سيدة فاضلة تقية شاركته في أخلاقه الطيبة وعاونته في أعمال البر والإحسان وشجعته علي تعمير الكنائس ورزق منها بولد اسمه يوسف وابنة اسمها دميانة . وكان يقطن بجهة قنطرة الدكة .

ولما ترعرع ابنه عزم علي تأهيله فأعد له دارا خاصة به جهزها بأفخر المفروشات واثمن الأواني والأدوات واستعد لحفلة الزفاف ولكن شاءت إرادة الله أن تختاره وتضمه إلى الأحضان الإبراهيمية قبل زواجه فحزن عليه والداه حزنا شديدا وأغلق المعلم إبراهيم الدار التي جهزها له وبقيت مغلقة إلى أن نهبت .

وقد كان لوفاة هذا الابن الوحيد أثر كبير في نفس إبراهيم وزوجته فازداد رغبة في مساعدة الأرامل واليتامى والمساكين وتعزية الحزانى والمنكوبين فأدهش جميع عارفيه بصبره الغريب واحتماله آلام الفراق وخيبة الأمل ولما أرادت زوجته الاعتراض علي أحكام الله ، تر آي لها القديس أنطونيوس الكبير كوكب البرية في حلم وعزاها قائلا : " اعلمي يا ابنتي أن الله أحب ولدك ونقله إليه شابا كما أحب والده لحكمة قصدها لحفظ اسم المعلم الكبير تقيا إذ ربما أفسد ولده شهرته وعاب اسمه وهذا خير جزاء من الله تعالي لزوجك علي بره وتقواه فتعزيا وتشجعا واستأنفا أعمالكما المرضية " قال هذا واختفي . وقد ترآى القديس أنطونيوس في الوقت ذاته للمعلم إبراهيم وعزاه وشجعه . ولما استيقظت الزوجة توجهت إلى زوجها وقصت عليه الرؤيا فأجابها بأنه رأي نفس الرؤيا في هذه الليلة فسلما الآمر لله واستبدلا لباس الحداد باللباس العادي وامتلأ قلباهما عزاء وشاركته زوجته في جميع أعماله الخيرية وصدقاته حتى يوم وفاته وقد توفيت كريمته دميانة بعده بزمن قليل وهي عذراء في ريعان الشباب .

استمر المعلم إبراهيم في رئاسة الديوان حتى حصل انقلاب في هيئة الحكام وحضر لمصر حسن باشا قبطان موفدا من الباب العالي فقاتل إبراهيم بك شيخ البلد ومراد بك أمير الحج واضطرهما للهرب إلى أعالي الصعيد ومعهما إبراهيم الجوهري وبعض الأمراء وكتابهم ودخل قبطان باشا القاهرة فنهب البيوت وأنزل الظلم والعدوان بالأهالي واضطهد المسيحيين ومنعهم من ركوب الدواب المطعمة ومن استخدام المسلمين في بيوتهم ومن شراء الجواري والعبيد وألزمهم بشد الأحزمة وتسلط العامة عليهم فاختبئوا في بيوتهم وكفوا عن الخروج أياما وأرسل يطلب من قاضي القضاة إحصاء ما أوقفه المعلم إبراهيم الجوهري عظيم الأقباط علي الكنائس والأديرة من أطيان وأملاك وغير ذلك وبسبب هذه الأحوال اختفت زوجة المعلم إبراهيم الجوهري في بيت أحد المسلمين وكان لزوجها عليه مآثر كبيرة فبحث عنها أعوان السوء ناكرو الجميل والإحسان ودلوا حسن باشا علي مكان اختفائها فأجبرها علي الاعتراف بأماكن مقتنياتهم فأخرجوا منها أمتعة وأواني ذهب وفضة وسروج وغيرها وبيعت بأثمان عالية ودل بعضهم علي مسكن المرحوم يوسف ابن المعلم إبراهيم فصعدوا إليه وأخرجوا كل ما فيه من المفروشات وأثمن الأواني والأدوات وأتوا بها إلى حسن باشا فباعها بالمزاد وقد استغرق بيعها عدة أيام لكثرتها واستمر حسن باشا في طغيانه إلى أن استدعي إلى الأستانة فبارحها غير مأسوف عليه وبعد فترة عاد إبراهيم بك ومراد بك إلى منصبيهما ودخلا القاهرة في 7 أغسطس سنة 1791 م وعاد المعلم إبراهيم الجوهري واستأنف عمله وعادت إليه سلطته ووظيفته ولكنه لم يستمر أكثر من أربع سنوات وقد ظل محبوبا من الجميع لآخر أيامه .

وقد أطلق عليه الناس لقب سلطان الأقباط كما دل علي ذلك نقش قديم علي حجاب أحد هياكل كنائس دير الأنبا بولا بالجبل الشرقي والكتابة المدونة علي القطمارس المحفوظ في هذا الدير أيضا .

وقال عنه الجبرتي المؤرخ الشهير : " انه أدرك بمصر من العظمة ونفاذ الكلمة وعظم الصيت والشهرة - مع طول المدة - ما لم يسبق لمثله من أبناء جنسه وكان هو المشار إليه في الكليات الجزئيات وكان من ساسة العالم ودهاتهم لا يغرب عن ذهنه شيء من دقائق الأمور ويداري كل إنسان بما يليق به من المدارة ويفعل ما يوجب انجذاب القلوب والمحبة إليه وعند حلول شهر رمضان كان يرسل إلى أرباب المظاهر ومن دونهم الشموع والهدايا وعمرت في أيامه الكنائس والأديرة وأوقف عليها الأوقاف الجليلة والأطيان ورتب لها المرتبات العظيمة والأرزاق المستديمة والغلال .

وقال عنه الأنبا يوساب الشهير بابن الأبح أسقف جرجا وأخميم : " أنه كان من أكابر أهل زمانه وكان محبا لله يوزع كل ما يقتنيه علي الفقراء والمساكين مهتما بعمارة الكنائس وكان محبا لكافة الطوائف . يسالم الكل ويحب الجميع ويقضي حوائج الكافة ولا يميز واحدا عن الأخر في قضاء الحق .

هذا مختصر حياته العامة . أما عمله الطائفي فيمكن تلخيصه فيما يأتي :

" أشتهر المعلم ابراهيم الجوهري بحبه الشديد لتعمير الكنائس والأديرة وإصلاح ما دمرته يد الظلم فبواسطة نفوذه الحكومي وما له من الأيادي البيضاء علي الحكام المسلمين تمكن من استصدار الفتاوى الشرعية بالسماح للأقباط بإعادة ما تهدم من الكنائس والأديرة . اوقف الأملاك الكثيرة والأراضي والأموال لا صلاح ما خرب منها وقد بلغت حجج تلك الأملاك 238 حجة مدونة في كشف قديم محفوظ بالدار البطريركية كما اشتهر بنسخ الكتب الثمينة النادرة وإهدائها لجميع الكنائس والأديرة فلا تخلو كنيسة من كتبه وآثاره .

وهو أول من سعي في إقامة الكنيسة الكبرى بالأزبكية وكان محرما علي الأقباط في الأزمنة الغابرة أن يشيدوا كنائس جديدة أو يقوموا بإصلاح القديم منها إلا بآذن من الهيئة الحاكمة . يحصلون عليه بعد شق الأنفس فاتفق أن إحدى الأميرات قدمت من الاستانة إلى مصر لقضاء مناسك الحج فباشر المعلم إبراهيم بنفسه أداء الخدمات اللائقة بمقام هذه الأميرة وأدي لها الواجبات اللازمة لراحتها وقدم لها هدايا نفيسة فأرادت مكافأته وإظهار اسمه لدي السلطان فالتمس منها السعي لإصدار فرمان سلطاني بالترخيص له ببناء كنيسة بالأزبكية حيث يوجد محل سكنه وقدم لها بعض طلبات أخري خاصة بالأقباط والاكليروس فأصدر السلطان أمرا بذلك ولكن عاجلته المنية قبل الشروع في بناء الكنيسة فأتمها أخوه المعلم جرجس الجوهري .

ولكي لا تتغير مواعيد الصلاة بكنيسة العذراء الكبرى بحارة زويلة لعامة الشعب قام بإنشاء كنيسة صغري باسم الشهيد مرقوريوس أبي سيفين بجوارها حتى يتمكن موظفو الحكومة من حضور القداس معه فيها بما يتفق مع مواعيد العمل في مصالحهم وقام بتجهيز أصناف الميرون ومواده علي حسابه الخاص وأرسلها بصحبة أخيه المعلم جرجس لغبطة البابا البطريرك بالقلاية العامرة

وفي سنة 1499 ش ( 1783م) بني المعلم إبراهيم السور البحري جميعه وحفر ساقيه لدير كوكب البرية القديس أنطونيوس بعد أن أهتم ببناء هذا السور من القبلي والغربي في سنة 1498 ش ويعرف إلى الآن باسم سور الجوهري . وقام أيضا بتجديد مباني كنيسة العذراء المغيثة بحارة الروم في سنة 1508 ش ( 1792م) وشيد كنيسة الشهيد أبي السيفين بدير أنبا أبللو وأنبا أبيب ( ولكنها هدمت في سنة 1881 م لتوسيع كنيسة مار يوحنا ) وقصر السيدة بالبرموس وقصر السيدة بالسريان وأضاف إلى دير البرموس خارجة من الجهة القبلية ، وبني حولها سورا وبلغت مساحتها 2400 مترا مربعا وبالاختصار بني كنائس كثيرة وعمر البراري وبني الأديرة واهتم بالرهبان الساكنين فيها وفرق القرابين وأيضا الشموع والزيت والستور وكتب البيعة علي كل كنيسة في أنحاء القطر المصري ووزع الصدقات علي جميع الفقراء والمساكين في كل موضع واهتم لهم بالطعام والكسوة وكذا الأرامل واليتامى الذين ليس لهم من يهتم بهم ورتب لهم في كل شهر ما يقوم بكفايتهم . وذلك حس ما شهد له به ابن الأبح في مرثية البابا يوأنس البطريرك (107) وظل علي هذه الحال إلى أن أنتقل دار الخلود في يوم الاثنين 25 بشنس سنة 1511ش (31 مايو سنة 1795م) فحزن عليه الجميع كما أسف علي وفاته أمير البلاد إبراهيم بك فسار في جنازته إكراما له وتقديرا منه لمقامه السامي ورثاه البابا يوأنس الذي كان يخصه بعظيم محبته وقد دفن في المقبرة الخاصة التي بناها لنفسه بجوار كنيسة مار جرجس بمصر القديمة وأوقف علي هذه المقبرة وقفا يصرف ريعه علي " قنديل لا يطفأ ليلا ونهارا " . نعم . مات هذا الرجل كما مات آباؤه وأجداده من قبله مات ولم يترك نسلا ولكن ذكراه باقية لان ذكر الصديق يدوم إلى الأبد

وقد اهتمت جمعية نهضة الكنائس القبطية الأرثوذكسية بالقاهرة بتجديد مقبرة الجوهري بدرب التقا بمصر القديمة فأصبحت كعبة المعجبين بأعمال هذين الأخوين البارين .

أما سيرة أخيه المعلم جرجس الجوهري فهي مدونة في اليوم السابع عشر من شهر توت سنة 1557 ش 27 سبتمبر سنة 1810 م يوم تذكار نياحته – ولربنا المجد دائما . آمين

Ok after the priest finishes the rounds he never goes back to the sanctuary which resembles 2 things.
1.he completed 7 rounds
2.The Apostles didnt return to Jerusalem because they got martyred in the country they last preached in.


From above how is the priest going to offer incense from right to left and  say that the Apostles never returned to Jerusalem???????

My fathers (if any are present), my brothers, and my sisters, I don't know if anyone has been following the disastrous events in the land of Egypt, to our fathers, brothers, and sisters. within the last week alone... many were murdered, many were injured, and even holy men were/are kept captive, and all is covered under misunderstandings, as accidents, and etc... even monks are being accused of firing armed weapons. I'm not one to say nor am I one who would point finger on who might have done such hideous actions... for God does all for a reason, and to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven!

"bow down Your ear, oh Lord, hear me; For I am poor and needy." All I could ask you, is in your private prayers, and liturgical prayers, Pray for the church to be strong in the affliction brought unto her, may the Lord bless us all, and let us cherish our mother the church at all times. please also do not forget to pray for her servant Bishoy.

I dont know if my sources were very accurate but they said he is still in the monataries but rarely comes out, but apparently he does sometimes very late like 1 am and does take off his gloves so people can see his hands.

If anyone has any more info on him i would LOVE to know about him, and if possible any pictures. I know thats very rare to find pics of him but if anyone happends to have any please share. Thanks

I was just reading the atonement document from our website (http://www.suscopts.org/messages/lectures/soterlecture1.pdf)

The section on Redemption & Atonement reads as follows (page 58):
Sin is an offense against God, King David said, “Against You, You only, have I sinned and done evil in Your sight” (Ps 51:4). This he said even though he sinned against Uriah the Hittite and his wife Bathsheba. The weight of that offence is proportional to the status of the offended party. Sin is, therefore, considered unlimited because it is committed against the unlimited God. Consequently, any sin requires unlimited atonement.
Isnt that kinda from Anslem? And isn't Anslem considered a heretic by our Church?

Can someone tell me if this is in any way unorthodox? Its from a COptic Website.

St Cyril of Alexandria said in the Fraction Prayer in our Coptic Orthodox Eukologion (Al Kholagy): "When your glory descends on your Sacraments, our minds are lifted to behold your majesty.  When the bread and wine are transformed to your body and blood, [i]our souls partake of your glory and become united with your Divinity ... You gave us the privilege to eat your body publicly; grant us to unite with you sacramentally (secretly). ... As you are one with your Father and the Holy Spirit we become united with you and you with us..."  St Gregory the Theologian in the Liturgy we pray in our Kholagy also says: " And when you ascended to Heaven bodily you filled us all with your Divinity."

There is also something written in ancient Egypt that resembles the bible a lot it goes something like: 'Ptah was the word and he hovered over the waters and breathed life upon them' it was something similar to this (i don't remember exactly)
But this shows a stunning resemblance to Genesis and to the beginning of the gospel of st John.
Does anyone know any explanations..??
I was also thinking that it was Moses (who was raised in Egypt and knew the egyptian religion and soforth) who wrote genesis, so maybe he was inspired by Egypt in a way??
I think I remember a priest saying once that God had shared info about Himself which came to Egypt in a distorted way. Which is why they have something similar to the trinity, because they had heard of it before but the info was changed in the course of time and then it ended up being their idea of trinity..
Can someone plz clarify why Egypt's religion is so similar to Christian theology in so many ways ??

May I ask something concerning baptism?

Let's assume someone is baptised at a late age. During their baptism, they chose a name of a saint. After their baptism, are they meant to call themselves by their old name, or new name?? Or both??

THe state still identifies them as by their old name. But the Church identies them by their new name. Should that person officially change their name to the new name??

He was the Bishop of Thessaloniki. He is also considered a Godsend and theological 'hero' to the Greek-Orthodox Church. He existed in the 16th century. I don't wanna know about him, I just REALLY need to know whether he is considered one of the COPTIC Orthodox Church Fathers also?

Where does our Church stand on the teaching of Theosis or 'divinization'? I have been told that His Holiness and Bishop Bishoy have questioned the doctrine; is this so?

It has always seemed to me at the heart of Orthodox belief in salvation. When I was a catechumen I read in the Cachetical Lectures of St. Cyril of Jerusalem, [Lecture 22:3] this comment on the Eucharist:
3. Wherefore with full assurance let us partake as of the Body and Blood of Christ: for in the figure of Bread is given to thee His Body, and in the figure of Wine His Blood; that thou by partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ, mayest be made of the same body and the same blood with Him. For thus we come to bear Christ in us, because His Body and Blood are distributed through our members; thus it is that, according to the blessed Peter, we became partakers of the divine nature.
This is in line with what St. Ignatius, (Ephes xxi) taught, when he speaks of Christians as
breaking one bread, which is the medicine of immortality, and the antidote that we should not die, but live for ever in Jesus Christ.
And in a famous passage, St. Gregory of Nyssa wrote:
Since then that God —containing flesh partook for its substance and support of this particular nourishment also, and since the god who was manifested infused Himself into perishable humanity for this purpose, viz. that by this communion with Deity mankind might at the same time be deified, for this end it is that, by dispensation of His grace, He disseminates Himself in every believer through that flesh whose substance comes from bread and wine, blending Himself with the bodies of believers, to secure that, by this union with the immortal, man too may be a sharer in incorruption. he gives these gifts by virtue of the benediction through which He transelements the natural quality of these visible things to that immortal thing.
This all seems pretty clear, that the Church believe that in taking the Body and Blood of Our Lord, in addition to walking in His way, we aid the process of theosis.

I know this might be a bit heavy for some, but I hope there are those here who may be able to help out with this one.

I'd like to ask why do Coptic Churches, and even Christians visit Lourdes if we do not believe in the Immaculate Conception??

Many Coptic Churches (especially in France) go to Lourdes each year. But, how can our CHurch allow that if it sees the dogma of the Immaculate Conception as heretical?

I'm trying to understand a verse in Romans.

Its hard to say from which point I'd like an explanation, but if there's ONE verse I have to chose from, it would be this:

Romans 14:23 (now, u can go a few verses back to get the full context, but look at what St Paul says:)


But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.

Thanks for any explanation, or even if someone can just send me a link of the homilies of the fathers for Romans 14. (or for the entire book of Romans even).

Now, in chapter 14, no-where is he talking about Holy Communion. What then is he talking about here? Please please explain this. I'm stuck in the middle of Turkey with no Church, and all I have is this verse blocking me. I do not want to move on to the next chapter unless I have understood this as it will just be MORE confusing.
