I heard a priest saying once that when Adam and Eve sinned, we were all in them, we are the product of both of them, so when they sinned all humans were represented in them..(something like when you plant a seed and then a tree comes out of it, basically the entire tree was in the seed somehow even when it was just a little seed)

I just can't understand how that is fair (I'm just asking for an explanation since I'm too ignorant to figure the justice out in all of this) If we  (our generation)  were born without the fallen nature, then we would have had a chance to do what Adam and Eve didn't do, which is to obey God's commandments and not listen to the devil..
Yet when we are born now, we don't have a choice...
Origen has said that the story of Adam and Eve is mainly metaphorical, it's meant to show how humans in general always choose to go against God. But I'm not sure whether our COC agrees with this view. 

I just can't understand how it is fair that we are prone to sin now because of our fallen nature which is a consequence of the original sin commited by Adam and Eve.
I'm not claiming we don't sin now, but even those who didn't have a chance to sin (like little babies) even they need baptism to enter heaven, so how is that fair??

A question which I think about alot is what the meaning of the church (as a building) should have in my life. Is it just bricks? Because I know that all the icons in the church have had oil put on them. Does this mean the icons are alive?

Also why do we call it the House of God? as I have heared that Saint Paul said to idol worshipers that the True God does not need a place to live which is built by the hands of men.

Please tell me, why do we ask God to have mercy on us in the Holy Liturgy?

If God is Love, and He loves us, why then do was ask for Him to have mercy. Perhaps the definition of mercy is not what we think it means??

Recently, we've been talking about theosis. That we do not consume Divinity, and we are just partakers of the Divine Nature, not IN the Divine Nature as we cannot touch Divinity. Can we?

But how is it that Saint Mary did not suffer having the Fire of Divinity overshadow her, and the Divine in her womb?? How was that possible???

I know the story of the burning bush, that the bush was filled with fire, yet the fire did not consume it. This is a symbol of saint mary carrying the Divine nature. But HOW did it not consume her? Why is it she could carry the divine Nature and it not hurt her, and yet we cannot??? Why so??

This question was asked many times to many bishops in our church and the answer was not convincing. They do confirm that the date is wrong and give an excuse that this is purely a mathematical error and simple people my think that the Coptic faith is wrong if we change the date.

Please my friends, do not be shocked about this fact. If you read the history below, you will understand the reality.

Until the year 1582, the Christmas was celebrated by the Coptic Orthodox Church on 25 December. Because the calendar year ( what we use as 365 days a year and one leap year every 4 years) is faster than the actual year ( the actual time for one rotation of the earth around the sun) by about 8 to 9 minutes, the calendar was faster by 10 days. In order to synchronise the situation, 10 days were deleted from the calendar and it was agreed that every 400 years, three days should be deleted from the calendar. Because the Coptic calendar did not follow this change, the Christmas day in Egypt was 4 January on the years from 1582 to 1699 and 5 January from 1700 to 1799 and 6 January from 1800 to 1899 and 7 January from 1900 to the year 2099. Then it will be 8 January from 2100 to 2199 and so on.

1) We would have a confusion on hypostatic properties i.e. the Son would have the same hypostasis as the Father.

2) The Holy Spirit wuold have two points of origin, resulting in
- the Son being cause and caused at the same time.
- the Father's procession of the Holy Spirit would be imperfect
- The Holy Spirit would have procession both directly and indirectly (through the son),

3) The Son would have the power of origination which the Holy Spirit would not have, meaning the Son is greater than the Holy Spirit which was Marcion's heresy

On top of all of this, the Filoque clause was added without the authority of an ecumenical council, was first welcomed in Charlemagne's reign of the Holy Roman Empire in 749 AD.

I'd like to know how to make my own Coptic Orthodox Church? Now, obviously, i want to do one that belongs under the patriarchate of Alexandria, under H.H Pope Shenouda. I'm not interested in doing a Max-Michel move and making my own Church at all. Can u imagine Pope QT_PA_2T?  I just want to initiate a new Coptic Orthodox Church in Paris. But how do i do it? What's the starting point?

Let's say I find a small Catholic or Protestant CHurch in Paris for sale or rent to be a Coptic Church... what then?
I'm scared to go through ANY priest in Paris because, quite frankly, they all have their own mortgages to pay for their little churches in the suburbs, and they wouldnt want another Church in paris. (all that jealousy etc will hinder this project).

How do I get the Pope to send a monk over to help us with the services??

What's the procedure?


Let's say I find a good place that's FREE even for us to use every sunday. What then? we need a priest/monk who can do the vespers and mass... what do i do?  ولد هذا الأب القديس فى عام 1908م فى قرية الريدانية مركز المنصورة محافظة الدقهلية من ابوين تقيين خائفى الرب .. وتسمى باسم عبد الشهيــــد .. وكان والده ناظرا لأوقاف كنيسة العذراء بالريدانية وكانت أمه اسمها حنـة فكانت أشبه بحنة أم صموئيل فى تربية أبنائها فى محبة الرب والكنيسة وعلمتهم الصلاة وقراءة الكتاب المقدس ... كذلك كان عمه هو كاهن كنيسة الريدانية ولم يكن له أولاد فكان يعتبر أولاد أخيه أولادا له فكان يعلم عبد الشهيد علوم الكنيسة وطقوسها .. فشب عبد الشهيد فى محبة الكنيسة والالتزام بتعاليمها وطقوسها حتى انه كان يتمثل بعمه فكان يجمع العلب الصفيح الفارغة ويربطها بحبال ويمسكها بيده ويحركها مثل الشورية .. فتعجب والداه من هذا التصرف وتساءلا ماذا يكون هذا الصبي ؟
 وكان لهذه الأسرة منزلا بالقاهرة بالقرب من العزباوية ( مقر دير السريان العامر ) فاعتادت امه ان تأخذه معها إلى العزباوية وكانت كثيرا ما تقابل القمص مكسيموس السريانى رئيس الدير في ذلك الوقت فكان كل مرة يقول لها : ابنك ده مش بتاعك ... فكانت تمضي إلى البيت وهى تحفظ هذا الكلام متفكرة به فى قلبها
  كذلك كان هناك احد رهبان دير البراموس يزور أسرته فى الريدانية ويبيت لديهم ويتحدث معهم عن الأباء الرهبان القديسين وعن البرية المقدسة وجمال العشرة مع السيد المسيح ..وفي وسط هذا كله كان من الطبيعى جدا أن تتأثر نفسية عبد الشهيد بهذا الكلام الروحي فأحب الرهبنة جدا واشتاق ان يصبح راهبا وكانت فكرة الرهبنة تتأجج فى قلبه ..

ولم يحتمل الشاب المبارك عبد الشهيد أن يعطي عمره للعالم أكثر من فأنطلق إلى دير الأنبا صموئيل المعترف وبعد أن قضى فيها بضعة ايام جاء والده وأخذه معه رغما عنه .. وتكرر هذا الفعل عدة مرات .. وفى اخر مرة فكر والده أن يخطب له حتى ييأس من تحقيق هدفه وخطب له بالفعل ابنة احد أعيان الريدانية ولكن هذا لم يمنع عبد الشهيد من استمرار شهوة الرهبنة فى قلبه ...

 وفى أحد الايام خرج إلى دير السريان تاركا خطيبته وأسرته وهو عازم من كل قلبه ألا يرجع مرة أخرى إلى العالم مهما كانت الأسباب ومهما حاول والده معه .. وفي هذه المرة استسلم والده وخضع لمشيئة الله ..

 وإزاء ما لاحظه اباء الدير من جديته ونشاطه ومحبته للرب – قدموا تزكية لرئيس الدير طالبين رهبنة الأخ عبد الشهيد .. وفي يوم 29 يناير سنة 1926 م قام رئيس الدير برهبنة الأخ عبد الشهيد على دير السريان باسم الراهب ثاؤفيلس السريانى .. وكان له من العمر وقتذاك 18 عاما .. وليس عجيبا أن ذلك اليوم يكون موافقا لعيد نياحة القديسة العذراء والدة الإله ، فكأنها توافق على اختياره ابنا لها فى ديرها عالمة انه سيقوم بنهضة عظيمة فى ديرها العامر ..

 وبعد أن نال نعمة الرهبنة أظهر حبه المتأجج لله فأزداد فى جهاده الروحي من نسك وصلاة وصوم وسهر وحب متواصل نحو الله وطاعة وخدمة متفانية للآباء لكي يأخذ بركة الجميع ..  ولكن كل هذا أهاج عليه عدو الخير الذي اثار عليه البعض حاسدين اياه على درجته العلمية النادرة وعلى فوزه بمحبة غالبية رهبان الدير ، فبدأ هؤلاء الضعفاء يقاومونه ويضايقونه ويعاملونه بقساوة لدرجة انهم كاموا يأمرونه بالنزول فى حوض الماء البارد ليقوم بغسل القمح وذلك فى شهر طوبة حيث البرودة الشديدة للجو والمياه تكون شبه مثلجة .. ورغم انك كان يطيعهم بلا تذمر إلا ان الحرب كانت تزيد عليه اكثر إذ قد صمم أولئك الضعفاء على طرد الراهب ثاؤفيلس من الدير .. وبالفعل طردوه اما هو فأطاعهم صامتا وذهب إلى دير الأنبا صموئيل المعترف ولما رأى الله صبره واحتماله التجربة بشكر دبر له العودة إلى ديره مرة اخرى ... ولكن الشيطان أعاد الكرة من جديد وتآمر عليه هؤلاء الرهبان مرة اخرى ولم يستريح لهم بال حتى طردوه مرة اخرى من الدير .. وفي هذه المرة لم يحتمل أن يبتعد عن ديره مرة اخرى ولم يستطيع ان يبعد عنه فأرشده الله أن يسكن في منطقة وادي النطرون وظل مرتديا زيه الرهباني وكان يعمل باحدى الورش التابعة للجيش المصري حتى يقتات من أجرها .. واستمر على هذه الحال إلى أن أراد الرب عودته لديره ..

 فقد كان الانبا يؤانس الـ 19  البابا 114 معتادا على زيارة الاديرة في وادى النطرون كل عام وكان معتادا على رسامة بعض الرهبان فى رتبة القسيسية ، وعند زيارته لدير السريان حضر القمص مكسيموس رئيس الدير وذهب إلى وادى النطرون وأحضر الراهب ثاؤفيلس معه للدير وعند قدوم البابا الجليل ورئاسته للقداس الالهي قدم له القمص مكسيموس الراهب ثاؤفيلس السريانى فرسمه البابا قسا .. وكان ذلك فى صوم السيدة العذراء عام 1934 ..
ثم كافأه الرب عن صبره واحتماله بتعيينه وكيلا للدير بالعزباوية ( مقر الدير بالقاهرة ) وهناك عمل بكل قوته وجهده من اجل إعمار هذا المقر باعتباره هو واجهة الدير فى القاهرة .. واثناء وكالته للدير كان يتردد على بعض الإيبارشيات لقضاء مصالح الدير وفى احد الزيارات لمطرانية الشرقية قام مطرانها بترقيته قمصا فى سنة 1946 م ..
 وحدث بعد نياحة الأب رئيس الدير أن اجمع كل الرهبان على تزكية القمص ثاؤفيلس السرياني ليكون رئيسا للدير وقدموا هذه التزكية للبابا يوساب الثاني الذي صدق على قرار تعيين القمص ثاؤفيلس رئيسا لدير السريان العامر .. فلما تبوأ الرئاسة سعى جاهدا لإراحة الرهبان وتحقيق رغباتهم وسد احتياجاتهم فأحبه الأباء الرهبان جميعا ، ورأوا فيه الأب والراعي المريح الحنون ...
وبعد هذه البركات الكثيرة ونجاحه فى الاختبارات الروحية التي امتحنه الله بها ليصقل شخصيته ويزكيه سمح الرب ان تتم رسامة الأب القمص ثاؤفيلس السرياني أسقفا للدير وذلك في 25 يوليو 1948م باسم الأنبا ثاؤفيلس ... ويعتبر الأنبا ثاؤفيلس هو اول رئيس للدير في رتبة الأسقفية فقد كان الاباء رؤساء الدير السابقين له في رتبة القمصية فقط .. ومن الملاحظ ايضا أنه عند رسامته اسقفا كان هو الأسقف الوحيد في المجمع المقدس الذي تخرج من دير السريان آنذاك ...

وما أن تمت رسامة الأنبا ثاؤفيلس اسقفا ورئيسا للدير حتى ظهرت علامات ابوته ومحبته للرهبان وأشرق عليهم بنور فضائله العديدة وبدأت شرارة الانطلاق نحو تعمير الدير رهبانيا وعمرانيا وروحيا فقام برهبنة عدد من الأخوة طالبي الرهبنة .. وهكذا بدأ دير السريان حقبة جديدة من تاريخه الحافل بالأمجاد ..
وتميز نيافته بعدة فضائل كثيرة فى رئاسته للدير التى أثر بها فى حياة الكثيرين من رهبان الدير وزواره حتى تزايد عدد رهبان الدير والأخوة طالبى الرهبنة بسبب ما رأوه من تلك الفضائل التى تحلى بها الأنبا ثاؤفيلس ومن هذه الفضائل :

 البساطة والاتضاع : فقد كان نيافته بسيطا فى ملابسه وسلوكه وحديثه لدرجة ان كل من كان يقابله فى الدير او فى مقر الدير بالعزباوية لم يكن يتصور او يظن انه امام رئيس الدير .. فكان عامة الشعب يدخلون للزيارة ويسلمون على نيافته طالبين صلواته كأنه راهب بسيط قائلين له صل لأجلنا يا ابونا فكان يصلى لهم بدون ان يوضح انه أسقف او رئيس للدير .. وكان كثيرا ما يطلب الحل من احد اولاده الرهبان والكهنة قائلا حاللنى يا ابنى حاللني ...
 طول الروح والأناة : كان نيافته عظة صامتة فى مدى الاحتمال وطول الناة تعلم منها تلاميذه الرهبان الكثير وكان نيافته دائما ما يقول لهم : طولوا بالك يا أبهات ... طولة البال تهد الجبال ..
 النسك والتقشف : عاش نيافته قدوة لأولاده فى حياة النسك فكان ناسكا فى ملبسه وطعامه وشرابه وفي قلايته البسيطة التى عاش بداخلها بنسك شديد مشابها آباء القرون الأولى فى نسكهم .
 العطاء : على الرغم من انه كان يظهر كثيرا امام الرهبان او العلمانيين أنه لا يملك شيئا إلا انه كان يعول اسرا كثيرة فى الخفاء دون أن يشعر به أو يعلم به أحد من الناس ولكن كل هذا عُرف فيم بعد ..
 محبته للرهبان وعنايته بهم : كان نيافته يهتم بالحياة الروحية لأولده الرهبان أكثر من تأدية الاعمال فى اليدر فكان يشجعهم على الصلاة فى قلاياتهم وعدم الخروج منها إلا للضرورات القصوى .. ومن مظاهر محبته للرهبان أنه كان بعد القداس الإلهي يوم الأحد الذي كان يرأسه كان يسأل عن أى راهب غائب ليطمئن عليه وكان يذهب إليه بنفسه ليعرف سبب غيابه وكان دائما ما يذهب لافتقاد الهبان فى قلايتهم الخاصة ويجلس معهم طويلا ليعرف مشاكلهم واحتياجاتهم .
 أمانته : كان نيافته شديد الحرص على اموال الدير فعندما كان وكيلا للدير حدث انه جمع اموال الدير خوفا من ان تتبدد وخبأها فى مكان غير معروف .. كذلك بعدما وضعت عليه مسئولية رئاسة الدير ظل حريصا على اموال الدير وكان لا يصرفها إلا فى الامور الضرورية جدا ..
 وفاؤه لسابقيه : عاش الأنبا ثاؤفيلس وفيا لرؤساء الدير السابقين له سواء كان ذلك فى حياتهم أو بعد انتقالهم للسماء وكان يذكرهم جميعا فى الترحيم بعد المجمع فى القداس الإلهي .. ولم يتوقف عن ذكرهم حتى اخر قداس في حياته ..
 طيبة القلب : كل من عرف نيافة الأنبا ثاؤفيلس لمس في نيافته طيبة القلب ، فكان إذا اخطأ إليه احد ثم رجع معتذرا كان نيافته يصفح عنه بسرعة وكأن شيئا لم يحدث وهكذا كان يفعل مع أولاده الرهبان دائما فكانوا يشعرون بطيبة قلبه كأب حنون رغم حزمه وجديته .. وكذلك كان إذا غضب نيافته على احد اولاده الرهبان فسرعان ما كان الغضب يزول من قلبه ويعود إلى طيبته ويصفح عنه ..

 كذلك أرسى نيافته مبادئ كثيرة في دير السريان نذكر منها : غرس المحبة المتبادلة بين الرهبان – محبة الجلوس في القلاية – عدم المغالاة فى العمل على حساب الروحيات – الحرص عى هدوء الدير وسلامته
كما كان نيافته معلما وقدوة حية لأولاده الرهبان فكان لا يفاجئ ايا منهم بالزيارة إلا بعد أن يخبره بقدومه كذلك لم يكن يحرج الأخوة طالبى الرهبنة فكان احيانا عندما يريد منهم شيئا ويدخل إلى استراحتهم فيجدهم يأكلون ، فكان نيافته يخرج مسرعا حتى لا يحرجهم فيتركوا الطعام لأجله ..
 كان نيافة الأنبا ثاؤفيلس أبا بمعنى الكلمة لرهبانه فكان حينما يخطئ أحد الرهبان فكان نيافته يتعامل معه بكل حزم وربما يبدو فيه القسوة ويعطيه قانونا للتأديب .. وحينما يجده استفاد من الدرس يستدعى نيافته أحد شيوخ الرهبان ويقول له صالحنى على أبونا فلان .. فيذهب الأب الشيخ ويحضر هذا الراهب موصيا إياه أن يعمل ميطانية للأنبا ثاؤفيلس عندما يراه .. وحينما يصلان إلى نيافته كان يتظاهر بأنه مازال غاضبا فيرفع نيافته صوته ويوبخ الراهب فيعطي هذا الراهب لنيافته الميطانية قائلا أخطأت حاللني يا سيدنا .. وهنا فى ابوة حقيقية يمنحه الحل بسرعة وكأنك أطفأت نارا متوهجة بماء بارد فيقول نيافته : طيب يا ابني محالل مبارك ، اطلب لنا كوبايتين شاى من مجمع القصر ... ويجلسه نيافته معه بكل محبة وأبوة ويشعره كأنه لم يكن هناك أى غضب ...
يا لها من محبة وأبوة حقيقية وتواضع جم من الأب الحقيقى والمرشد الروحى ..
اقوال مشهورة لنيافته :
 الراهب يشبه لوح الزجاج لو أنكسر لا يمكن تصليحه .
 القمص والقسيس فوق رأسي ، والراهب داخل قلبي ، وطالب الرهبنة فى عينيّ .
 معدة الأنسان مثل الباون كلما تملأها أكثر تنتفخ وتتسع أكثر وكلما تقلل فيما تعطيها فانها تنكمش وتضيق .
 كان دائما يدعو الله قائلا ( يا حنيـن يارب ) وكان يقول ( يا فـرج الله ) .
 صلاة نصف الليل بركة لنا وتحمينا من الشيطان .
 احلب الضرع يعطيك لبنــا ، اضغط عليه يعطيك دمـــا .

 اهتمام نيافته بدير السريان وتعميره روحيا ومعماريا : فقد كان نيافته محبا للتعمير فهو اول من ادخل مطبعة إلى الدير وكذلك هو اول من بنى بيتا للخلوة للشباب كم قام ببناء عمارة لقلالي الرهبان وشيد مبنى للضيافة ليتم استقبال زوار الدير فيه كما شيد نيافته منارتين عاليتين داخل اسوار الدير أصبحتا من العلامات المميزة لدير السريان وتعتبران أول منارات خرسانية يتم بناؤها على مستوى الأديرة كلها ..وكان نيافته من أول من عمر الصحراء المحيطة بالدير قبل ان تبدأ الدولة فى تعمير الصحراء .. وشهد الدير فى عهده نهوضا بالحياة الرهبانية بصفة عامة فتم اختيار الكثير من رهبان الدير ليصبحوا رؤساء لأديرة أخرى .. كما تم اختيار عدد منهم ليكونوا أساقفة لخدمة الكرازة المرقسية وأكبر مثال على ذلك هو أختيار الراهب القمص أنطونيوس السريانى ليصبح أسقفا للتعليم باسم الأنبا شنودة ثم بطريركا على كرسي الرسول مارمرقس باسم قداسة البابا شنودة الثالث ( أطال الرب حياته ) ... ولابد ان نتذكر هنا أنه عند رسامة الأنبا ثاؤفيلس أسقفا كان هو الأسقف الوحيد  من رهبان دير السريان وبعد رسامته تخرج عدد من الاساقفة من الدير بلغ عددهم عند نياحة الأنبا ثاؤفيلس 18 أسقفا ...
كما كان لنيافته أثرا كبير فى الاهتمام بدير الأنبا بيشوى الذي يجاور دير السريان عندما كان الدير يمر بضائقة مالية كبيرة فأشرف نيافته على الدير حتى قام بتسديد جميع ديون الدير وأدخر جميع احتياجاته واصبح لدير الأنبا بيشوى حالة تختلف تمام عما كانت عليه قبل اشراف الأنبا ثاؤفيلس ..

a) Where is it possible to get as accurate as possible translation in English of the complete Bible from Coptic (any dialects, not necessarily online, publishing year and details)?

b) Where is it possible to get hold of as close as possible translation in English of the complete Bible in Greek? (is the Septuagint the closest possible translation canonically?)

by the welling of God , on the 1st of June the Coptic orthodox church will celebrate the Holy Family's Journey in the land of Egypt .

So let's celebrate also here for this blessed occasion , any blessed memeber can share us if he / she can .

we will explain places that the Holy Family has visited , and pictures will be attatched .

A chaste and pure person should be pure in body and soul, in his thoughts, senses, feelings, and even in his dreams and imaginations. A man should give careful attention to the purity of his thoughts as his thoughts also belong to God. As we take care of the purity of our hearts in order that God may dwell in them, so we must take care of our minds too. In the Holy Bible the Divine Inspiration says, "...Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and all your strength..." (Luke 10:27).

A person who lets his heart be occupied with sin, gives a proof that God does not live in his heart, as thoughts arise from the inside of the heart.

The Holy Bible says a good man produces well from the store of good within himself; and an evil man from evil within produces evil.

The law does not take your thoughts into account but God judges you according to your thoughts. Hence conscience is stronger and deeper than the law, for the person who takes care not to commit a sin by thought will find it difficult to do wrong in deed and action. Thus the purity of thought becomes a means for the purity of the human being as a whole.

If you wish to have a pure mind, keep far away from the means that cause the corruption of thought. Keep away from all things that bring to your mind a sinful thought. Such thoughts may come as a result of faulty readings, of wicked things that are heard, or due to a sinful environment, bad company, or wicked friendship. An evil thought may arise from another evil thought. Keep away from this so as to keep your thoughts pure.

Evil thoughts may arise from desires or bad lusts inside the heart. In fact, desires and thoughts co-operate; each of the two may be a cause and a result. An evil thought may bring about a wicked lust, and a wicked lust may give birth to a wicked thought. On many occasions your thoughts may be expressive of your desires. Try to clear out your heart from evil desires; then your thoughts will consequently be purified.

Thoughts and lusts may give rise to dreams or imaginations, as you dream of the thing that you think of, or that you long for. In this way, a man may sometimes be responsible for his dreams; and inasmuch as the man's heart and thoughts are purified, so will his dreams be purified. If you dream of something against your thoughts and desires, you may be disturbed and wake up quickly, and you will not be able to continue your dream for a long period.

On some occasions evil thoughts may merely be a fight on the part of the devil against you, to disturb the quiet of your heart and destroy your inner peace. But not all evil thoughts are wars from the devils; there is a great difference between the war of thoughts and falling by thought. In case of an evil thought that is merely a fight from the devil, your heart will revolt against this thought and you will try with all your determination to drive it away and get rid of it and not accept it at all. But in case of falling by thought a man will be contented with the wicked thought or will be enjoying it; he may even try to keep harboring this thought for a long time, and he may be annoyed if something occurs to break it up.

When these thoughts come to your mind, do you sincerely oppose them, or do you become satisfied with them? Here is the measure and here is the test of the substance of your purity.

My advice to you is to oppose wicked thoughts and escape from them. If an evil thought attacks you, try to occupy your mind with something else or run away from it. You may think of something else that is deeper so as to divert the course of your thinking.

You may occupy yourself with the reading of something interesting so that your thoughts may be diverted from that wicked question to the topic of reading. You may pray in secret and raise your heart to God to keep away the evil thought from you; and if all these methods are not effective you may occupy yourself with some manual work or talk with anybody to drive away the thought.

Be cautious not to yield to the wicked thought as this is treachery on your part against God and association with enemies. Your escape from the thought as soon as it comes to your mind is much easier than your attempt to run away from it, after you have kept it for a certain period of time, because as long as the thought continues in your mind, it will exercise its mastery over you, and will subject your will to its attraction, until you become a slave to it and fulfill its desire.

If the thought continues with you, it may be changed into an emotion or a desire or a lust; it may develop into an attempt at fulfillment, and thus you may be degraded from a sin by thought to sin by act.

An evil thought may come as a result of idleness according to the saying, "The mind of an idle person is a convenient place of work for the devil." A busy person controls his thoughts, as he directs them according to the kind of occupation in which he works. A hard working student directs his thoughts in the way of his studies; a scientist is occupied with science, an athlete with physical exercises, a monastic with worship; but a person who spends his time in idleness will have his mind exposed to evil thoughts; he does not control his thoughts but the thoughts direct him.

My advice to you is to take the first step; you should orient your thoughts and not let thoughts take advantage of you and direct you. Thoughts can be a weapon in your hand and it can be a weapon against you; let it be your friend and not your enemy. You should know that the greatest and most useful projects were originally an idea, and all great humanitarian deeds began as an idea.

We may need experts whom we invite from distant or nearby countries to obtain ideas from them. Let your ideas be a treasure for yourself and othersLet your thoughts be a blessing for the society in which you live. If you cannot make your thoughts a source of benefit for yourself and for others, at least do not let them be a cause for the loss of your eternity and the purity of your heart.

Do not wait until the evil thought comes to your mind and then you find it difficult to resist it, but you should take the initiative and occupy your mind with righteous subjects. Try to possess a treasure of Holy meditations and Divine thoughts, a treasure of feelings of love towards God, so that your mind may be ashamed of those thoughts and feelings if the devil wishes to defile it or let it fall.

Be always occupied with what is beneficial and keep in mind that God reads and examines your thoughts. Therefore you should be ashamed of yourself whenever you give way to sinful thinking. And if you fall in evil thought, do not despair and keep up that thought, but you should rise quickly and redress your thoughts.

May God be with you and grant you purity of thought as a Holy gift.

في مثل هذا اليوم استشهد القديس توما الرسول، الذي يُقال له التوأم. وُلِدَ هذا القديس في أقليم الجليل، واختاره مُخلِّصنا من جملة الاثني عشر رسولاً. وهو الذي قال للتلاميذ، عندما أراد المُخلِّص أن يمضي ليُقيم لعــازر: " لنذهب نحن أيضاً لكي نموت معه " وهــو الذي سأل ربّنـا وقـت العشاء قائلاً: " يا سيِّدنا لسنا نعلم أين تذهب، فكيف نقدر أن نعرف الطريق؟ " قال له يسوع: " أنا هو الطريق والحق والحياة " ولمَّا ظهر السيد المسيح للرسل القدِّيسين بعد القيامة، وقال لهم: " اقبلوا الروح القدس" كان هذا الرسول غائباً، فعند حضوره قالوا له: " قد رأينا الرب " . فقال لهم: " إن لم أُبصر في يديه أثر المسامير وأضع إصبعي في أثر المسامير وأضع يدي في جنبه لا أومن ". فظهر لهم يسوع بعد ثمانية أيام وتوما معهم وقال له: " يا توما، هات إصبعك إلى هنا وأبصر يديَّ، وهات يدك وضعها في جنبي، ولا تكن غير مؤمن بل مؤمناً ". أجاب توما وقال له: " ربي وإلهي " قال له يسوع: " لأنَّك رأيتني يا توما آمنت. طُوبَى للذين آمنوا ولم يروا ".

   وبعد حلول الروح القدس على التلاميذ في عُليَّة صهيون، وتفرِّقهم في جهات المسكونة ليكرزوا ببشارة الإنجيل، انطلق هذا الرسول إلى بلاد الهند، وهناك اشتغل كعبد عند أحد أصدقاء الملك ويُدعَى لوقيوس الذي أخذه إلى الملك فاستعلم منه عن صناعته فقال: أنا بنَّاء ونجَّار وطبيب. وبعد أيام وهو في القصر صار يُبشِّر مَن فيه حتى آمنت امرأة لوقيوس وجماعة من أهل بيته.

   وكان الملك قاصداً التوجُّه نحو أطراف المملكة فسلَّمه مبلغاً من المال ليشيِّد له قصراً، فأخذ القديس المال ووزعه على الفقراء، ولما رجع الملك سأله عن الصناعات التي قام بها، فأجابه: " إنَّ القصور التي بنيتها هيَ النفوس التي صارت محلاً لملك المجد. والنجارة التي قمت بها هي الأناجيل التي تقطع أشواك الخطيَّة. والطب والأدوية هي أسرار الله المُقدَّسة، تشفي من سموم عدو الخير. فغضب الملك من ذلك وعذَّبه كثيراً وربطه بين أربعة أوتاد وسلخ جلده. ودلَّكها بملح وجير، والرســول صابر.

ورأت ذلك امرأة لوقيوس، فسقطت من كوى بيتها، وأسلَمت روحها. وأما توما فقد شـفاه الرب من جراحاته. فأتاه لوقيـوس وهو حزين على زوجتـه، وقال له: " إن أقمت زوجتي، آمنت بإلهك ". فدخل إليها توما الرسول وقال: " يا أرسابونا قومي بِاسم السيد المسيح ". فنهضت لوقتها وسجدت للقديس. فلما رأى زوجها ذلك آمن ومعه كثيرون من أهل المدينة بالسيد المسيح، فعمَّدهم الرسول.

   وجرف أيضاً البحر شجرة كبيرة، لم يستطع أحد رفعها، فاستأذن القديس

توما الملك في رفعها، والسماح له ببناء كنيسة من خشبها. فسمح له، فرسم عليها الرسول علامة الصليب ورفعها وبعد أن بنى الكنيسة، رسم لها أسقفاً وكهنة، وثبَّتهم ثم تركهم ومضى إلى مدينة تُسمى قنطورة فوجد بها شيخاً يبكي بحرارة لأن الملك قتل أولاده السِّتة. فصلَّى عليهم القديس فأقامهم الرب بصلاته فصعب هذا على كهنة الأصنام، وأرادوا رجمه، فرفع أول واحد الحجر ليرجمه، فيبست يده فرسم القديس عليها علامة الصليب فعادت صحيحة فآمنوا جميعهم بالرب يسوع. ثم مضى إلى مدينة بركيناس وغيرها، ونادى فيها بِاسم السيد المسيح. فسمع به الملك فأودعه السجن. ولما وجده يُعلِّم المحبوسين طريق الله، أخرجه وعذبه بمختلف أنواع العذاب وأخيراً قطع رأسه فنال إكليل الشهادة ودُفِنَ في مليبار ثم نقل جسده إلى الرها.
