Lately, I was thinking about the idea of "what you do to others will happen to you".

And my FoC mentioned something that made me think:

He said that "because Moses had killed an Egyptian, God did not forget this. He punished Moses. His punishment was that He did not allow or permit Moses to enter the promised land. He just went around in circles in the wilderness."

Also, is the story of David. King David committed adultary and killed a woman's husband. For this, God punished him. He took away his 1st born child with the woman he committed adultary with, and his own son tried to kill him (absalom). I even do believe that his own daughter was raped.

Finally, another example is of Jacob. He fooled his father to get the blessing of the 1st born. Because he fooled his father, he himself was fooled when he went to get married; and his father-in-law made him marry the wrong woman.

Can someone tell me:
---------------------

a) Does the CHurch see these as temporary admonitions from God? or was it just the personal contemplations of my old FoC.
b) What happens if we do not receive our punishment? St. Moses the black wished to die and suffer in the way he had made others suffer. What if we do not receive admonition for our actions, and we die?? Do we go to heaven or hell???
(bearing in mind what abouna said).

The underlying issue of this topic is in fact about vengence. That God deals with each person justly, and we should not seek vengence ourselves, but trust that God will give us our rights. I think!!! (I hope at least).

You sinned, therefore someone has to pay... U sinned against God, so therefore payment is endless,.... etc. etc and u all know the rest i'm sure!

Is this true??

What exactly IS the Coptic view on Divine Justice??
Please pray for the monks at Abu Fana monastery in El Menia, Egypt.
Two days ago some people attacked the monastery. They destroyed the buildings there, inlcuding a church. The kidnapped three monks and tortured them during 12 hours. They SMASHED one of the monks' legs into pieces and also his arm. They shot at the monks and people present at the monastery. They humiliated the monks by hanging them on a tree and hitting with a whip. They also tried to force them to spit on the cross and to leave christianity. The police didn't show up until 3 hours later when all the damage had been done already, although the police station was only 2 km away !!!

Afterwards the monks had to be carried to hospital since not one ambulance showed up, the hospital refused to admit them and look after them. The had to be moved to another hospital in Cairo where they would treat them. In the meantime the monks lay on the floor bleeding from their many wounds caused by firearms and from the braking of their bones.

Until now, none of the people who did this were captured, although it is known who did it.

I wanted to share with you this: the monk who got beaten up the worst and had his bones smashed said he was happy that he got to suffer for the name of the Lord. "Blessed are you when they persecute you for My sake"...

We can learn so much from these monks, who although being innocent and unarmed, were attacked by barbarians whom I'm not sure can be called humans anymore. These monks are strong in the faith and rejoicing and thanking God. Hopefully we can learn from them, that in our weakness, His strength is shown and that all the problems and suffering we might face here on earth are but a twinkling of an eye compared to the eternal life God has prepared for His sons and daughters.

Please remember our brothers and sisters in Egypt who suffer under persecution.
We know that our lives are in the hands of the Lord.
God Bless

I love the strong faith which many copts have and had in the past, strong enough to move mountains, and it still shows today in the many miracles that occur..
There are many miracle books which tell stories of miraculous healings and people being saved from terrible situations etc. This brings me to the topic: Many people are starting to demand a miracle to happen, I even heard about sick people refusing to go to a doctor because they want to be healed by a miracle without any medical intervention.
I recently heard a sermon by a priest at my church and he was adressing this issue, warning people not to count on miracles.

I mean it's nice to have faith, but who are we to tell God how we want our problems to be solved? I just thought of this because apparently it's more and more occuring nowadays..
I mean St. Augustine himself said work as if everything depended on you, God gave us brains for a reason..
If anyone has any comments on this..

God Bless
Please pray for me

I heard a few days ago that orban wasn't supposed to have sugar in. Is it true? IF so why do most churches put a hint of sugar in it? Why was Saint Minas monastery in mariot the first to do this? If you put sugar in it does it make it non-cannonical? (even though it says that jesus took bread and didn't specify what type).
Pray for me

Hello (again!)

I was just wondering : If the Coptic Orthodox Church doesn't recognise the baptism of catholics, nor protestants, then does it feel that these people will not go to paradise? If Christ said that no one can enter the kingdom of heaven, unless they are baptised by water and Spirit, then how does it see these denominations that it is not in communion with respect to qualification into paradise??

What about protestants ? They do not have baptism as a sacrament - its more of a gesture. What happens?? Does the CoC recognise the salvation of non Orthodox Christians?

I am so excited, because I just recently found your church.

I have been trying to decide what to do, because I was at this point of indecision. I was trying to make up my mind between converting to the Catholic Church or to Eastern Orthodoxy. But I was uncomfortable with both. I tend towards pacifism and I believe in the power of fasting. (I regularly fast for world peace, etc.) Also, I am uncomfortable with the church cozying up to political power. Both the EO and the Catholic churches thus made me a little uncomfortable, although I liked the grandeur of both, as well as the Apostolic origin and the sacramental nature of the Churches.

Then I discovered the Coptic Church. I should say I rediscovered it, because I had heard of the Coptic Church before, but because it was "Coptic Orthodox Church" I thought that it was a church in communion with the Eastern Orthodox Churches; I did not realize that the Church was separate, and much closer to the simplicity of the Church that I am comfortable with.

My question is, what should I expect upon converting? How long will the process take? Is there a similar rite to the Catholic Rite of Initiation? Also, I am gay, but I am celibate (I do not have sex, but I cannot control attraction). Is this something that would cause me to be rejected by the Church?
